Where am I going wrong with PPV?

Hey everyone,

I've been running a PPV campaign on Media Traffic promoting a free weight loss package I've put together to encourage optins... I'm running the campaign to build a list instead of going after sales straight away.

My problem is I'm getting impressions but nobody is opting in.

I'm rotating two versions of the landing page and would have thought that at least someone out of the 900-1000 impressions per day would sign up.

I've got over 4000 target urls.

Has anybody got any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Double check your optin form if its working normally.

I didn't do PPV but i heard the conversion rate can be very encouraging. But unfortunately your offer is not converting well. If you don't mind, you may show your landing page to some of the warriors here to get some tips to optimize the landing page.

Hi Eswar, thanks for the reply.

The link to the landing page is:-

      http://www.revealaslimmeryou.com/ebook

I am split testing 2 versions using a rotation script... if you refresh the page a couple of times you'll see both versions.

Landing page 1 is a bit 'text heavy' so I cut a lot of the text out and replaced it with an image for landing page 2.

To be realistic, the landing page does not excite me. Why don't you try direct linking some offers that are proven to work or try some review style landing pages?

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking that.

Any particular reasons why the weight loss niche doesn't convert with CPV/PPV?... I'd be interested to know.

        Cheers

      Hi Tom,

I purchased Mass PPV, which is what attracted me to try PPV in the first place.

Unfortunately the product doesn't quite live up to the sales page IMHO, I've gained more info from the Warrior forum than the product.

      Cheers for the reply

You're starting off with too many urls to monitor correctly, unless you dump a ton of money and time into it, start with fewer

You should be able to get e-mail fairly easily, maybe take a look at your landing page and make sure it's very clear and easy for them to join your list

I'm just now learning about PPV and your post is confusing to me. What do you mean by too many url's to monitor? Chris talks about scraping as many as 14000 url's to drive traffic to one of his campaigns.

I'm not questioning your post - just trying to understand. Thanks.

Scraping 14000 urls is one strategy, however it is an expensive one, and if you chose to do this you will need to be ok with losing some money before finding your winning combination. If you start with fewer keywords you can watch them more carefully and weed out urls which do not convert, hope this makes some sense.

I've been following Mass PPV traffic advice which says go for as many URL's as possible... so I'm now a little confused

I've only been paying about 0.015 cents per impression and have set my daily budget low for the test so I won't lose my shirt!

I do think the landing page is part of the problem but as ben565 points out it may be the wrong niche.

I'm having more success with PPC at the moment (different niche though) so I might give PPV a miss

You get what you pay for... chances are, you're bidding on some really poor converting targets.

0.015 is not that cheap, you can test DirectCPV with 0.01. It may not seem like a lot but that's 50% more than what you'd get with us or with Trafficvance. Their minimum bids start at a penny as well.

    Hey Rich,

You only get about 2-3 seconds to convey your message before the user decides to close the pop window or continue.

That said, I find your LP to be too busy and nothing jumps out to get my attention. I suggest trying an alternate landing page design where you only have a short headline to get their attention and one sentence (in the opt-in box) describing "what's in it for them" if they get the ebook. Best choice IMHO is a design along the lines used by super affiliates... ex: http://www.cpahotspot.com/

It also appears that you have sized your window for Media traffic, so kudos to you for that.

    Regards,

    John

ps - The above assumes that your targets are appropriate for your offer. ie It is relevant to the audience seeing your message.

      Hey John,

      Fantastic advice, thank you.

I might have a go following your suggestions.

Re: Media Traffic Window - I'm finding this a right pain because of being limited to the 750x550 dimensions. I think that's why the pages look so cramped because I'm still trying to get everything in I would on a normal sized landing page.

      Cheers,

      Rich

        1. Make sure the optin form fits in the window
        2. Test more landers. /try ones with people on them, try ones that look like the sites you're targeting, try ones that look nothing like the sites your targeting.

I can't speak for or knock Ben565 but it does convert and your target here is the female crowd. Use quantcast to help pick your target URL's.

After you set up a campaign in MT, you can use the "test it!" button to see exactly how the pop window will appear. Go to the campaign and click the "modify" button. You should see the Test It! button near the lower right of the screen.

Relevancy is key, but you pointing out there is too much going on was good to hear.

I thought his page looked good, but I understand that too much of a good thing is sometimes a bad thing!

His original page design is actually good... for PPC and other traffic sources.

However, CPV is a different critter and a different LP tactic is required.

For what is worth I think you are bidding on far to many url's...I mean you are likely bleeding conversions and money...My advice would be to get really targeted and then build up from there...as mention already using this amount of url's is an expensive strategy..

Also I agree I'm very unimpressed with Mass PPV.

Where did you get your 4000 target URLs? How accurate are they? Did you use a program like keywordspy.com and grab their URL targets? Be careful in getting URLs that don't relate exactly to the landing page. It's better to use 50 target URLs to start and make sure that they are accurate. Then figure out what converts, move those to a different campaign, pour more money into those converting URL targets and then add more URLs to a brand new campaign.

If you plug in 4000 URLs in one campaign, you'll never be able to optimize a campaign properly. It's just too hard to manage. What happens is you may have a couple of URL targets that will get all the traffic and you will never really get to see if any of the other targets make you any money.

Also another tip, try to keep your landing page 850x650 max size. Some applications send popups using interstitials and they take up an inch of space of the browser with the SKIP button. Some clients don't allow any scrolling, so if you have a form that has a submit button that shows up at the bottom of your page, you're screwed. I don't suggest popping direct to link codes unless they have short landing pages.
