Be Careful Which Networks You Work With...
I'm not sure if I am allowed to mention networks here, so I won't. However, this network is well established but actually pretty small in comparison to other CPA networks.
However, they've got some of the top CPA merchants on there, all PURE CPA stuff with some awesome payouts.
Anyway, I started a PPC campaign about a week ago and started throwing some traffic to certain offers. I made good conversions and a few hundred dollars this week from this campaign.
However, I noticed a few gaps in sales, which is normal. But because I am a ridiculously protective of my PPC campaigns, particularly when I am testing the water like this, I was keeping an eye on how may clicks I was paying for vs my commissions.
I kept in close contact with my aff manager and expressed my concerns when the clicks I was paying for were NOT matching up with the clicks reported in my aff reporting area at the CPA's site.
After another day of concern, I switched to another network which is much bigger and more "modern" looking, took the exact same offer from THEIR network and literally swapped out the links from the new network.
Low and behold, 4 clicks later and the sales start again, with the tracking recording exactly how many clicks I had paid for today too.
Worrying stuff. If I wasn't doing PPC, I'd have probably overlooked this due to lack of tracking. I know that you CAN track all types of clicks, but I think it's more prominent and worthwhile when you're paying good money for every single click.
Just thought I would share my experience and provide you with one simple moral to this story:
SET UP TRACKING FOR ALL OF YOUR LINKS.
This will help being robbed of commissions and also will help you to see how your links are performing (particularly useful for content based site promotion).
