Who does this kind of advertising? I would be interested in hearing about others' experiences. Is it profitable?

Many networks offer mobile downloads / SMS related offers. Mobile ads are done by Google of course. However, few services are offering purely Mobile based ads that are CPM based (I presume this is what you are talking about). A few CPC ones but the truth is few pay $$$$ like traditional web models.

When I am not doing this entire AM thing, I am actually working on my Ph.D where my research topic is contextual usability in mobile commerce. Bottom line is that research shows - point blank - people information seek but they seldom convert to a transaction unless a trifecta of factors is present to the user in the mobile setting. I can go on and on, but if you think mobile will pay big - look elsewhere. Sell ringtones and SMS products. Don't expect to make a billion doing ads via mobile.

There are some good ringtone offers out there. If you're going to try running a ringtone offer, I suggest not going with flycell, only because it doesn't include at&t, which is a pretty big contributor to ringtone purchases. I know we have an internal ringtone offer that doesn't scrub at all.. and I'm sure there are a few other networks out there with their own ringtone offers as well. Just ask around if that's really what you wanna do.

It also depends on where you're placing the ad.. if you get the right site with the right offer it'll work. Do you already have a website that you're considering putting ringtone ads on?

Hey everyone. I've been in Interactive marketing for 11 years now (mostly mobile) and I can tell you that making money with ring tones is trending down. A lot of people are learning how to cut MP3s and make ring tones out of them.

Mobile advertising is still mostly for branding purposes and should not be used for marketing. You are not going to make a lot of money with that form of advertising. Please understand that advertising is NOT marketing. And Admob, Third Screen Media and other companies like them offer advertising opportunities. That is not mobile marketing at all. It is another way to 'advertise' your business.

I can tell you from first hand experience that using my client's money ($1000 up to $100,000) mobile advertising is NOT what you want to do if you want to make money. Our (US) market is not mature enough yet to make money that way yet. Think about the ads on TV. Do you go get a Big Mac just because you saw an ad from McDonald's??? But you may buy P90X from a TV commercial. McDonald's advertises their products, but Beach Body 'markets' their products via TV and other medium.

I think small businesses should learn how to 'market' your products in every medium possible before venturing out in to advertising your products.

Thanks Eclario. The course sounds very detailed and worth considering.

I think Gauther Chaudhry will be offering a course soon, too.

Yes, but does Gauther Chaudhry have the research, stats, backing (and that means funding), and case study data to prove the effectiveness and means to create killer affiliate marketing for mobile.

I highly doubt it. The three big smartphone vendors as well as two search giants have helped me in the data collection for my dissertation - which is now being spun into an information product.

Getting inside the silent giants - PRICELESS!
