How Long Will CPA Last?

I know CPA is the newest money making rage. It was ClickBank awhile back, then Squidoo, on and on and on through trends.

You think CPA will last as a sustainable income for a long time (5+ years)? Or will it die out as others have and will we see a new emergence?

The basic model of lead generation and incentives have been around a lot longer than the internet so for as long as affiliates are sending genuinly targeted traffic I can't see any reason for it dying out, so I guess for as long as the CPA networks keep track of and continue to vet (vette?) their affiliates properly it will be sustainable.

Lead generation has been around since before the internet.

CPA will most likely always be around.

Crappy rebill offers may not be, but legitimate lead forms will always be around.

Yeah, the rebills have really given CPA a bad name. I wonder what type of offers will replace those. I bet they will start going towards straight sale offers, like a ADT Security offer I saw recently with $147 commission, $47/recurring monthly.

The main reason I have not tried promoting CPA offers is the automatic rebills.

I know the responsibility to read the fine print falls on the buyer, but as internet marketers, we know people typically choose to ignore it, yet we continue to use CPA techniques.

For now, I think I will stick to other (albeit less profitable) marketing techniques.

As long they keep adjusting to the market conditions (eg drop off the rebill etc), I suppose they will last a long long time.

Live on less than you make and build up huge and diversified cash and stable investment reserves. That way you'll have a buffer against the inevitable market swings and economic troubles.

As others said, lead generation will be around in one form or another barring dramatic changes in the economy (in which case CPA will be the least of your concerns). Some types of offers will die off while new ones take their place. Rebills are going to change due to new regs, just like ringtones did a few years ago, and may not be the gold mine that they were but some people will still make money at them.

CPA has been around for a long time, and probably will be for a long time. That doesn't mean the game will be the same. Maybe the networks will play a different role and offers will change, and affiliate practices will have to change.

To me it's just one income source. I don't ever want to have all my eggs in one basket, especially not CPA. The offers are too unstable. You can just make a site centered around one offer and then forget about it, because the offer might be discontinued and nobody tells you, or it changes to some crappy redirect, etc.

The best method has always been and always will be having "members" do CPA Offers (Incentive)... There are some networks that do not allow incentive but there are "MANY" that do

It is less work, less marketing, less pain, and more profits the easy way.

CPA is not new .... Certainly not a new money maker either... It has been around for many years. It is not going anyplace at all, it will evolve and change like everything else does.

CPA isn't new. The new trend in "how to make money with CPA" products are new-ish, but the technology and companies providing the tracking and offers isn't new.

Lead generation NEVER goes away, it will only evolve.

Adsense was popular but now its all about CPA! I love it

They probably evolve, since nothing in the Web is always the same, but the basic technique will never die - solid method be good source of income, hell, you ca make lots of money from CPA and retire so even when it dies it won't be bothering you anymore So my advice - take action and make money now.

Online CPA Networks that the Average Joe can join is what's relatively new, CPA as a business model has been around for 10,000 years in one form or another (just a figure of speech, I can't prove that .

I think the huge surge of interest in CPA is primarily the people who make products about it trying to sell their stuff fast, before the FTC completely slaughters their business models. I think there's a lot of fear in the CPA community right now, and a lot of people are panicking, and that looks like CPA is a hot new thing.

But I think the real question is "just how screwed are we going to be?" and once that question's answered the interest will die down. But while that question's up in the air, there will be a bit of a feeding frenzy.

As far as long-term viability, I think it's going to continue being a good earner, just in a slightly different way. I think the people who evolve with it will keep earning, while the people who learn one trick and just hammer on it over and over... well, they'll find the trick stops working after a while.

Some good opinions here; I tend to agree that lead generation will always be around in one way or another. It's nothing new; it's just on the internet now.

Rebills, however, are heading for the garbage been any time now (At least state side). Which really, is a good thing. Alot of people made alot of money from their hayday, but the impact on consumers likely cost everbody who does business online years of progress - There was a time when most consumers wouldnt dream to pull out their credit cards for an online purchase; and all rebills did was reaffirm that nagging old worry.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1833711].message }}
    • Profile picture of the author Marakatapolis
I don't even know what a rebill is. Are you talking about monthly membership sites?

Yes, I could Google it, but I don't feel like it
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1833714].message }}
  • Profile picture of the author Brenden Clerget
Rebills are like the **** free trial offers that are free for 30 days or two weeks and then recurring bill the person for $69.95 or more. Use Google!

But yeah, I think that we gradually, or just perhaps internet marketing might get to the point where we want money so much, maybe it will border unethical with some of the things we promote or the ways we do it. It's drifted there before, happy white-hat took back over.

Only makes sense since black hat will make you lose all your monies, anyway.

CPA is not going anywhere soon. I believe that continuity programs may take the wrath of government regulators in the coming months but the industry is alive and well and will adopt or evolve.

There's a lot of people using blk hat methods to drive in leads especially on craiglslist it's full of subtle cpa offers. I think the people using illegitimate means are eventually going to screw it up for everybody.

Comment on Continuity - as long as disclosure is very open, honest, and repetitive in it's delivery to your new customers, everyone is happy- People like to be part of a community and membership offers them that- If all pages are clear, you have nothing to fear

Is that your site? I don't think you're supposed to do that.

But back on topic: Yeah I agree it's going to be around awhile. Today was an awesome CPA day for me, I just really hope that the previous poster that mentioned the black hat and CL crap that some do wasn't right, and that it doesn't tear the integrity of it to the ground.

Listen, make this really really clear from a business owners position--- CPA will NEVER go anywhere. It might change a little on how it operates but, it will NEVER go away.

Anytime a business model works to make multiple parties money, and still make the end user happy, it STAYS... The model might change to make sure that SOME of the con-game style companies do not get what they wish for---- You all see that forced continuity ads are basically blown out now...

So just get more articles ready for the niches you like to promote and then you can back link them and keep you money page higher and higher in the SERPs and you to can earn a good buck!!!

In my opinion, CPA has been around for a while and will continue to last...

As others have mentioned, lead generation has pretty much always been around and as long as there are businesses present, it'll stay (which you can imagine will be quite a while).

Of course, that's not to say that some new craze won't suddenly appear because more than likely, it will. Be prepared for it.

I think the thing to realize is that CPA marketing is not just a single money making method, its a marketing model. Lead generation has been around since the beginning of business. Lead generation will be around forever.

What will change is the nature of the business and the technology. As per the nature, yes rebills came and were hot and now the vast majority of scammy ones are gone. There will continually be new offers and new 'kinds' of offers. As per the technology, there will continually be new tracking, new scripts, that will change the big players in the game.

The trick is learning to evolve with the industry. Unlike many other business models that have been around forever, CPA or lead generation undergoes tremendous change as it is very dependent or at least determined by the technology and trends that exist...both of which come and go often. We need to learn to adapt to the changing environment or each of us individually will get eaten up...sort of like old man darwin.

In sum, lead generation, which is the basis for CPA has been around forever and will be forever, it will just evolve constantly and we as marketers must embrace change to succeed

    my two cents
