This Untapped Ad Network Just Netted me $175 in 4 Days. Here's Exactly How!

Hello Fellow Warriors,

I want to give back to everyone and share an experience I recently had when checking my ClickBank account ;D

I was recently monitoring my ads on BuySellAds.com for a twitter service I'm running, then I started to browse through their available sites.

Note: If you're unfamiliar with BuySellAds.com (which I'm sure many are, it's relatively small) they are primarily focused on Web Dev and Social Media websites and all things accordingly. They only allow websites such as that into their network, but they have some pretty top-tier sites and networks.

So I started browsing through and wanted to see if any correlated to any ClickBank products. Lo and Behold, quite a few did!

So I emailed BuySellAds.com and asked if we could use affiliate links on sites that we wanted to advertise with, and they said no problem.

So I browsed through their available sites and found one related to Twitter that cost $50 a month for over half a million impressions.

I then went into ClickBank and looked at Twitter related products, found one that was converting at a "claimed" 2%-8% and had over 100 gravity.

I grabbed one of the 125x125 banner and slapped my affiliate link on their and submitted it.

The great thing about BuySellAds.com is that your ad usually goes live instantly, and at most 24 hours later.

This was 4 days ago. I logged into my CB account today to find that the ad which I spent $50 on had already netted $175 in affiliate commissions and its only been 4 days! The ads run for 30 days based on that price!!

Another huge advantage of BuySellAds.com is live tracking. They have live tracking for impressions and CTR, then you can track conversions in CB.

I just wanted to point out this network for anyone looking to do some experimentation. Based on my initial results, I'm going to do some more poking around and try and find some more sites on BuySellAds.com that correlate to products on ClickBank.

The best part was I didn't have to make a website, I didn't have to design graphics, I didn't have to do keyword research and I didn't have to do any SEO!

I hope this can help some warrior out there make a buck or two!

Good luck Warriors! Let me know if you've any questions!

-Amy

checked this out and it seemed odd that the amount of impressions seemed to have no relevance to the price per ad placement. There were some 100,000 imp ads costing 120 bucks and some 500,000 imp ads costing 50 bucks... must be due to what the site owner will take for the placement. that's all I could guess.

Anyway, this seems like a good place to test conversions.

Hey Amy, I ordered your stumble upon wso and my email is temporarily out. could you pm me the link? my order email was jeff@bio***.org just so you know I paid for it:]

There is not a single day that I do not get new ideas from this forum. I have been looking for media buys for my CPA campaigns and never thought of such networks dealing with buying and selling ad spaces on lots of websites. Now I have very good options. And it is nice that they accept PayPal payments.

        Thanks for sharing this Amy.

your right it has to do with placement, but more importantly the ad size. Even though the price might be lower for the same or more impressions your getting a way tiny ad space to work with.

Note that it was not buysellads that was crappy. It was the site(s) on there that you chose to advertise on.

My first try I got over 300,000 impressions but only about 25 clicks in 30 days. I realized that I advertised on free online gamer site. They just play, they don't click or spend.

      Lesson:
Beware of free gaming sites, not buysellads!

BuySellAds is all hit or miss, at least that's what we've experienced with a Twitter pas related site, however sometimes you can find sites with half a million impressions + for $20 a month and garner some decent CTR'S and hopefully conversions. I'm definitely ogin to be trying it out some more and cross test it with some sub'ids and other offers. I'm curious to see how other products may convert on BuySellAds

Here are two tips for you...
      1. Ad position matters

Regarding Tip #1 - What's more valuable - Banner Ad across top, or small square ad in Right SideBar?'

I didn't see this answered in the thread so...

Most valuable banner would be at across the top BELOW the header/title of page or blog and ABOVE the first post or rest of the page.

Second most valuable would be at the top of the right sidebar.

Last place would be across the top ABOVE everything, including the header/title of the blog or page.

I use them also. You need to carefully match your offer to the site. CPA can be tough because a lot of their sites are about design and coding, so you have to keep a look out for relevant offers.

I'm going to try CB now, but only with a few of the site, 2-3 max, preferably the cheap ones...LOL...........actually CJ might be better than CB........gotta look for something thats fits the site.

Also before picking a site to advertise on with buy/sellads, make sure to check its demographics with places like quantcast.

Does anyone know of similar sites like buy/sellads, but with a wider range of site topics?

I once purchased an ad via buysellads for $800 bucks.
Got about 100 clicks a day on that ad for a month and could not convert anything on that particular site.

Uber fail in my opinion but I learned allot during that time.
I should have done my research because most of the websites traffic was german and only 15% was US traffic....my stupid fault.
It sucks losing $800 and media buys when started on a low budget can take too much time to gain information.

    Anyway, great share!

I've found that right sidebar are better because I see them not only generate more clicks, but they usually cost significantly less than banners.

I feel like 125 boxes or 234 rectangles stand out more, they have a better chance at being seen than typical 728 banners which are relatively "buyer" invisible.

I choose a product on CB that had over 100 gravity and a nice landing page, I've since gotten another sale and it's already paid for the ad 4 times over. Maybe I just got lucky on one, but I did my research and investigate the target site for competition and what type of content they were providing/had provided, then checked to see how visitors might feel when landing on the offer and how it could potentially directly relate to the sites content.

I'm curious too about other smaller ad networks such as these, that insert on smaller niche sites directly, anyone have any suggestions?

This is the tricky part, evaluating the aesthetic aspect of how visitors
might feel about the offer, landing page , content, and match up of ad
      space with the target product.

Evidently you hit a grand slam.

Now is my question.. Could this be used to promote poker/casino websites as well using your own affiliate link and banner?

Lets say.. Promoting Poker Stars or Full tilt?

Might be hard to promote poker CPA's because A) no poker sites, B) they said they usually don't accept ads outside of niche and C) might be hard to convert some (especially on poker CPA's which require a good bit of stuff for the lead?)

If I were going at it i'd stay directly within those niches or a product that's relatable or useable. But there are quite a few, I'm browsing CB now to see if this first one was a fluke or if I can find some more good ones!

      I'll report back!

I was randomly browsing through some of the publishers on there and one of them had a poker popup on the site! So it might work well on that one.

Now if only there was a method to tell which ad's have been there the longest :S any ideas? Then its more of a copy and profit type setup!

            2) Post that product's affiliate link on BuySellAds
            3) Watch money grow?

Is that it? Please assist, Interested to try this out.

Well jay thats the process, yes, but before you do any of that, do research. I looked around the target sites where the ads were going live and checked what kind of service/information they had and how that could potentially lead into the product I was promoting on ClickBank. Find offers that correlate or else you'll be wasting money. Theres a ton of offers and a ton of sites, try and find the closest match.

There's a lot of good deals on BSA for some pretty high impressions for the cost, so if you dig around I'm sure you can find a winner within.

Thanks for the post, buysellads is an easy to use service. I did not make anything when I tried them out but, as with anything its just finding what works and doing the same thing over and over again.

Going to sites like compete.com and quantcast.com in order to look at demographics and the volume that those sites are receiving. Especially compete.com because you can see if the traffic that that site is generating is rising not falling, and the number of unique visitors is very important as well.

This would not be what I would call a media buy. Maybe a mini-media-buy but this will show you and give you an idea how the bigger ones will work..........

Definitely, but it's a good way to get your feet wet. I'm curious about media buys as well, like everything I'm sure copious testing is involved for maximum results. So far this BuySellAds campaign has been quite profitable, especially since I wasn't even thinking it'd break even, but had to try!

I'm going to experiment with some other sites to test results, monitor traffic and see if it's a fluke or if those browsing BuySellAds related sites are "buying" traffic.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Given me some great ideas!

Great. I would call it a media buy (because that's what it is) and so would many others. Instead of using the hypen, just call it a "small" media buy. You're thinking of "large" media buys where you need thousands of dollars to get going. Media buys can be very cheap, but the word always connotates $5K and $10K buy-ins, which it really shouldn't. People in IM think you have to do PPC and PPV before getting in to the expensive world of "media buys," which is a misconception. It's a term which encompasses all kinds of purchases of ad space. That's all the term means. In internet marketing, banner ads put on a site for a set price per month qualifies under the general term.

Amy it looks like you are just direct linking here. How many clicks vs concersions were there? Would be interesting to see whether driving the clicks to your own squeeze page and then to the offer may be useful for getting the best roi for the ads.

From my experience only the well put together CB offers have affiliate banners for us to use... Check at the bottom of the sales page for an affiliates link. this should take you to the offer's affiliate section. Smart product owners will give you some banners. It is kinda a pain compared to Neverblue or something, but worth it when you consider the well produced offers will have better conversion testing behind them. Hope that helps.

Lot of the sites are blogs on the network are blogs, many of them very specific, web design and web development oriented blogs. I was looking into that to promote my web design business, but did not do it, simply because the target audience are not my customers, but rather competitors (or future competitors). Many of the visitors are also foreigners, which may not be your target audience.
A quick note - lot of the ads rotate, depending on how many ads the site allows. So if your ad is not displaying when you check it out, it is nothing to worry about.
Also, lot of the blogs have a stable audience, meaning, that once your ads show, the sales are made within short period of time, because the new members (and new potential customers) are not gained in hundreds a day, as it is with forums. But that of course depends on the blog/site, the way the owner promotes it etc. But I would guess, that once your sales start dropping, they will most likely not pick up and you should move to another site. Of course, you could place the ad back after some time, just analyze the membership and traffic figures.

      Hi Amy

Can you share some of your research tips for BSA? Some of the site I looked had last post from 2008 etc.

Is there an advance search i.e. search all site which cost $40 per month with xxxxx impressions etc?

        Hey!

If you log in you can set criteria for what you want to see, example impressions, price and size. You can also filter by keywords and so on. I'd encourage you to have a look around, it's free!

For me, I logged in and looked around already knowing there were twitter sites. Then I browsed around CB and looked for twitter related products that had over 100 gravity, nice looking sale pages, decent payout and affiliate tools. All these were critical to ensure not only that the product was selling, but that the seller was focused on the product and service enough to make affiliate tools.

I then looked around and found a twitter site that had products for sale to find a buying audience, so they wouldn't just be clicking and not converting!

I don't understand why people ask for WSOs when someone is giving away free information. Starting threads that eventually lead the thread starter to release a WSO based on that discussion can get that thread starter banned (even if just temporarily) quick in this forum, anyway, so lets just keep it a free discussion!

      I agree,

I don't really think there's enough information here to warrant a WSO. When I create WSO's I'm trying to focus on them extensively and provide more than just a couple pages of fluff. I think I pretty much explained everything there was to explain, just wanted to help out some fellow warriors, open it up for testing and see if we can all benefit!

I think WSO's should be something truly worth paying for that are in depth and fresh!

Anyone have any testing results to report? I'd love to hear some variations? I'm currently researching new sites/products to keep expanding upon this!

      Thanks for the feedback!

One problem may be there are a lot of scrapers out there plus auto-bloggers, and other tools that might pump up the amount of impressions, but they're all useless for advertising purposes. Not sure if there's a way to find this out before doing an ad buy, but worth thinking about. I don't really know. Any thoughts on this?

Also I have seen a set amount of clicks a day on BSA, are there scripts that can be run( by the site owner) to give a false hit reading? Just seems strange that I get the same clicks each day.

Wow that's really strange to see the EXACT same clicks each day? Are you advertising on just this 1 site and getting the same clicks daily or are you spread across multiple sites? What about your tracking? Are you seeing equal hops in relation to the claimed clicks?

I've seen varying amounts of daily clicks, but the CTR stays in the same range.

Honestly I doubt the site owner would risk running this because if they got a couple reports on negligence then I have no doubt that BSA would can them, and a lot of these site owners seem to be primarily monetizing their sites through BSA.

May just be me but I have had bad results. It is just 1 ad on one site, but I did rotate to split test. Poor results-212,00 views and 50 clicks. The thing is the ad was not as targeted and it was a footer ad, I knew going in the footer ad was probably a poor choice but wanted to test the process. Found another network similar to BSA and have had better
          results-about .34 ctr.

If you're referring to the sites on BSA, contact BSA directly, they will almost guaranteed refund if there is a substantial discrepancy. If it's off by a couple percent or so I doubt it because of traffic fluctuations. But if it's anything significant, contact them and they'll most likely honor a refund, they're quite service oriented I've found!

I'm glad people are enjoying it. Like everything it's not perfect and requires some experimentation. Just wanted to put it out there for others to experiment with, as they do have some great budget buys! I just put up a new campaign and purchased 15 sites with a 125 box for $10 a piece! Quite a good amount of impressions combined.

Just to give more detail if anyone's interested, I purchased spots on WordPRess related websites and am promoting Auto Content Cash - Wordpress Auto Blog System (which has 560 Gravity!) and pays out around $40 per sale. So 3 sales and it covers the cost of advertising.

Just wanted to let people know what I was promoting if interested, I'll report back with results!

Like always it really is the ad and the site. I'm exclusively advertising on sites that have some sort of product or service for sale, be it premium WP themes or twitter related backgrounds/packages. This targets viewers who are already in "buying" mode or have purchased in the past. I'll report back in a few days with this new campaign and see if the results continue!

From where I am from, you can post this sort of ads with bloggers but its about $50 for a week, I tried once and I didn't get much clicks and no sales.

This seems like a cheap alternative.

Thanks for the nice share Amy, i am trying this. There are suitable products to promote on CJ, CB and elsewhere.

        Just a thought to add:

In principle you could also apply this method to the Google content network. Huge inventory and huge number of sites available + tight targeting is possible. Also Google has their own banner making facility free to use within your Adwords account or you can upload your own banners or the ones ready made by the decent CB merchants.

    -Amy

People on BSA are looking for free stuff -- not buyers. They're mostly blog readers into tech, design, and blogging.

I spent $85 to promote an iPhone product and got 800K impressions and 10 clicks. No conversion.

And LOL - check this out http://www.deluxetemplates.net/ -- two people trying to promote "blogging to the bank" using BSA

Thanks Amy for sharing your results, because I was going to try BuySellads.com too, but I bookmark 20+ media buy sites and can't decide which one to use, all the bookmarked media site are the top 20 on ComScore.

I see most of the "good spots" in BuySellAds.com are already sold out, even the impression are low, and with high impression low costs, nobody wants to buy, but preimum spots in BSA sold out pretty fast, and they don't have high impression too. Could it be the advertiser already knew what spots convert, maybe the impression doesn't matter.

    Thanks.

I purchased several banner ads on BuySellAds in the past, and have an active ad that costs $200/month.

I didn't see great results in the past, and the results of my ongoing banner is underwhelming -- if current trends continue, I'll lost much of that $200 (a very small portion of my ad budget, so no biggie).

However, I'm sure there are some great opportunities on that site, and I'm not trying to discourage you! Just take some of the estimated impressions data with a grain of salt.

I have lost a lot of money with buy sell ads, most sites are related to designs, graphics, etc. I would contact webmasters directly and purchase ad banners from there sites at much cheaper rates!

I think it boils down to patience. How much patience you have for testing out and trying new things if some of them don't work as expected. For those who don't want to test or who want quick results, then media buys is probably not for them.

I had MASSIVE failures with Adbrite. Even when using clickbank products.

Spent a lot of money, made very little.
It does get the traffic, but didn't work well for me at all.

Im actually using BuySellTrade.. Hope the exposure from here doesn't drive up prices. What ive tried to do is keep a set budget maybe under $500 a month and split that up between.. check right now I have it split between 10 different sites, all same niche but different sites.

What I've found using somewhat of a related method as to the one mentioned here is to not push all your eggs into one basket AKA site. That way its easier to split test each type of site however you wish to catergorize them.

I prefer to assign them to specific targetted age groups. For instance a could safely say Warriors is geared toward the more mature older crowd, I would put down $30 a month to advertise here. Then I would put another $30 into a site geared towards children, maybe like a online arcade site.

Just saying don't think youll magically find the cheap, magic site. As the OP said she only made about $100-$200 in profit. Although users should realize that they should research keywords and the site itself before placing any AD buys
