I have been trying CPA for over a month now, and none of my campaigns have been successful. I have advertised on Myads, Adbrite, Project Wonderful, and Twitter, and the closest thing I felt of success was when I made three dollars on some stupid Diaper campaign. CPA doesnt work, everyone out there knows that everyone else is scamming for thier email address so I cant even get people to submit that. Im using banners from the affiliates and targeting smaller audiences as not to expose my ad to just everyone. IMO people on the net know better than to put their emails into those stupid affiliate landing pages. If someone see's what Im doing wrong or can possibly lead me in the right direction it would be most appreciated, but at this point I just dont understand how anyone is successful by promoting these ridiculous "free" offers that are never really free.

Tell the guys who make over $100,000/month with cpa that it doesn't work. It does work, it's just not as easy as you'd like it to be. Takes a lot of hard work, blood, sweat, tears and creativity. Easy to say it doesn't work, as you're not successful but don't think you are the smartest person in the world and because you can't make it work, it "doesn't work."

      ^^ This.

You can't just assume something doesn't work because it doesn't work for you. Also you are using the creatives (banners) from the CPA network which usually aren't the best converting.

I think we should all start a CPA Doesnt Work movement. That means less competition for us right

        just playin

To prove CPA works, try this...

        join a network (free)
        make a free blog (free)
write some stuff about a health type trial offer (free)
put your affiliate link/banner on your blog (free)
print out flyers with a headline about health and your blog url on them (12 small flyers per page, 20 pages = 240 flyers @ $0.05 per page for the ink = $1)
walk around a crowded apartment.condo complex and deliver your flyer
the payout will be around $30 per conversion

My bet is you will get at least one conversion.

        -This will prove CPA works
-This will give you a 3000% return on your investment ($1 turned into $30)

Or if you dont want to pay the $1 for ink to make flyers, just go door to door and verbally promote your offer. Tell people to write down your URL. Now you did everything 100% free

Now that you made your first conversion, try to think of a way to do what you just did more effectively and more efficiently!

long before CPA was a buzzword (when we called it pay-per-lead) I was getting the best results from text links embedded in relevant content and .pdf reports.

    Still do ...

I've never had significant success with affiliate banners OR media buys for that matter.

I have some text links on a couple of websites for a lead-gen CPA that pays profit every day. It's not paid traffic either, just regular old SEO.

Definitely CPA does not work. You have to work CPA!

There is money in CPA, but it's not the easy road to instant riches without effort, that everyone imagines..

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

It does work, but it's a volume thing. I had an offer that payed about $12, I posted it to about 100,000 people and got two conversions for a total of $24. Not a kings ransom by any means, but it did get those conversions which left me with a small net profit.

It's also an offer thing, as in it has to be a decent offer. I had another that I posted through the same channels and got no conversions at all.

Moral of the story is, pick a good offer and find a good cheap traffic source, you will make money.

It seems like you are only promoting email submits, which only make up a portion of cpa offers.

1.) I would try testing different types of cpa offers.

2.) Try testing out your own creatives versus the networks.

3.) Try different traffic sources. Adbrite and MyAds, require a lot of testing and I wouldn't recommend starting out with them.

Dude, there are countless people making a few hundred a pay, you dont need to catch up to the big dogs, you can find a pretty comfy place in the middle!

Heck a lot of people ask me how to get to $30 or $50 a day and once they reach that they and fine, that's all they want to achieve. And that is perfectly fine. You dont need to make 10k+ per day to be successful.

Cpa absolutely 100% does work but like anything else or any other business it takes time and trial and error. Everyone thinks because it is easy to log on your computer and buy a few ad spaces Affiliate marketing is easy . No its not. Guys who are making 6 figures have been in this industry for yearrrsssss upon yearsssss. So either find a mentor or stick it out until it actually works.

Thats the thing about internet marketing it filters out all the people who dont want it bad enough.

First of all, CPA goes way beyond email submits.

My initial thoughts are that you haven't experienced success because you haven't stuck with anything long enough to become evenly remotely good at it.

CPA doesn't mean money will just start rolling into your bank account. You've got to go work for it and eventually set up systems to automate your business and then money will roll into your bank.

But I guess it is easier to just say it doesn't work.

I appreciate your advice as well mister, but actually I have tried all the different species of promos, from the longest forms that pay really well, all the way down to the small ones. Pin submits targeted at socializing young adults, some of the very ones I was victim to in the very beginning. I have tried to many different ways and got entirely to many clicks to only make $5 in my career of IM that was born over a month ago. Maybe I'm on the right track, maybe I'm way out of my league, who knows. I enjoy reading these forums every day and I believe that one day I will figure something out that will pay off for me. Until that day I hope that we can all enjoy what we are doing and that something make our ends meet.

Look at it from this perspective though, you are learning. You now know what does not work. That's a lesson in your CPA education. Don't be frustrated, be persistent with your efforts and move on.

Here's my thoughts on what wasn't working: the offers and ad copy weren't compelling enough to convert. Maybe it was the wrong traffic or maybe it was the ad copy. Maybe it was both.

Always think relevance! Is this relevant to the prospect? Is it compelling enough to invoke action?

Another thought - fish in bigger ponds. Small traffic = small results.

Okay Kenster, your one of the first people here that really got my attention, so of course I got your wso, and after reading it I figured I was good to go. I mean a book like that has got to get you going right? Well I do realize that I only read it once which broke one of the initial rules. I really want to make this work for me but I cant place my faith in it at this point. I am still willing to put as much hard work, sweat, blood and tears it takes into making something work. If there is someone out there that just wants to take on a bull headed yet very driven individual with unlimited potential then please do grab the bull by the horns. More insight here: I use Maxbounty as my main, and I have 320 clicks with 4 actions that paid me a total of $4.75. Now when I first thought I could make money online I was doing surveys, paid emails, and the such. Well I never got to a payout amount because I could see the endless trail that lead to nowhere. I found a program called YouData that put over a dollar in my account the very first week I used it, but I stopped it when I discovered CPA and got a glimpse at the real IM. Unfortunate for me I have spent hundreds of dollars in several different ways to only see $5 back.

Why waste your money on paid ads when you have no idea what you are doing? I'm no expert but I have been dabbling in CPA for about 6 months now and just started a couple of ppc campaigns on a very small scale with money that I have made from my free traffic methods. If you have been listening around here very long you should have heard all of the regulars on CPA say "start with free methods first." You can lose your butt on ppc even if you somewhat know what you are doing.

You can throw in your hat if you like but it's only your loss and less competition for the people that are willing to put in the time and effort to make CPA work.

I agree with that one. Well put

      To the original poster.

If CPA was not working for you then keep at it.Find something you would be intrested to promote and dont go for what is the best on the network, Finding a ringtone offer if you like mobile phones for example and then setting the mindset to do Blogs on why that Mobile offer would suit others getting it ect..ask yourself if you was in a pub with your mates and they asked something like were can i buy my next pair of shoes from whilst looking at your new nikes(If you wear nike trainers that is) were would you send them.

Its been my first week with CPAlead and to be honest with you all i have done is the regular "SEO WORK" that goes with building a website.

I have actully for the first time online switched off from the money side of thngs and seen my websites as businesses and not let my self for one whole second go "oooh no it is failing" Or any of that mindset that makes people fail of feel worthless.

IN one week i have made over 150.68 doing surveys at my site Watch Spartacus Blood And Sand TV Episodes FREE and you know what the people who have been to my site love it,

On my adbrite account im hitting only 300 people a day being a new site but they come back time after time

if sending traffic dont work for you to your page.
Then try Video marketing with submits, Imagine Having 100 videos of the same spread over 35 websites with the same message that go clockwork 24 hours a day 7 days a week with a link to your site Cpa offer. It does work but takes slow time to do so. CPA works!!

Or try blogging a few high Pr sites and mentioning your site you are promoting,Or hire a Blog commentator from getafreelancer or off the warrior forum to do comments on sites that let you blog on a comment.

Whatever! you get the idea Just keep Trying is the subline message i am trying to say and save your money when you have a huge budget to do paid ads.Get paid ads then

Free traffic is the best traffic to profit from at all costs yet when you cannot get access to that try paid for faster results.

If all That fails use Google Trends for research.

Alot of people use here and keeps people reaching for your site when Google

Pick what people are chatting about and find something that goes with it in a survey,

I did a whitney picture and video site online last night when she pulled out of the concerts and added a few submits and tell you what woke up this then just went to facebook and bebo and found fan pages and boom! this morning 80.00 dollars more richer according to widget,so i know CPA marketng works great.

You Just got to work at it.

Find a product and get it on

And not a penny spent on advertisment either had to add.

    What techniques are you using?

CPA is a type of offer, so saying CPA isn't working isn't really accurate, it's the techniques you are using, it might just be you need to do more testing, but it's hard to say without having the info on what your doing

I agree with the above regarding free traffic methods.

Maybe your best bet it to start over and start taking baby steps. Instead of trying to play with the big boys right from the start, try working out the kinks and learning the basics. Its okay if you arent making a ton right from the gate.

CPA does work indeed. Perhaps you have spent much time on one type of CPA ad, in fact, you can try to test different types of CPA offers and find the best for you.
PPC is a useful method to gain more visitors and potential comsumers, but it is an unarguable fact that there are many things you should do to optimize your process of visiting people.

You keep hearing traffic, traffic, traffic...and you are not having success with CPA.

You need to change the game for a while. Don't play the "demographics" game of some ad networks, play the "I want a solution to this problem" game. You can do this with adwords, but I'd suggest you go 100% free for now.

Example: Diaper Campaign - Drive free traffic to the offer by writing posts to a blog, articles, etc... talking about how to save money on your baby. Stretching your budget for your baby. How to find coupons for diapers. etc...

Example 2: Borrow a baby and make a YouTube movie of changing diapers repetitively, then speed it up, and throw a crazy fast soundtrack behind it. Give it a crazy title and remind parents how expensive changing diapers is, and then tell them the solution is at: www. myultracoolDiaperCPAoffer . c0m (You could do this with just photos of baby's and create a slide show.) Don't stop with one video...

Social bookmark your content to increase the traffic and rankings.

You can do this in almost any type of offer. By driving "interested" traffic, instead of just "curious" traffic, you will increase your conversion rates.

There is a negative side to this theory. It is called "more work" and "slower results". The positive side is "continued results". Your PPC and PPV ads only run as long as you pay for them. The free methods run indefinitely.

Consider using a 100% iframe on your own sites to keep the offer on your domain, instead of sending them off to another location. Check with your AM before doing it. You already have the code to do this in Kenster's guide. This may increase you conversions, since you are not sending them off to "one more site".

If you want to run an iframe in a Wordpress blog, there are a few plug-ins which make it possible. You can find them here:

    WordPress › WordPress Plugins- Iframe

The most important tip I can give you, KEYWORD RESEARCH. When you are looking at an offer start thinking of every associated topic you can around the offer, and then use Market Samurai, Google External Keyword Tool, or your favorite tool and hunt down good phrases to target with your free promotional methods. Even YouTube videos should have titles based on good keywords, and the tags should include good keywords, also.

My fingers are tired from typing this post, and I only have 18 more articles to write today...time to get back to work.

Best wishes in your endeavors, you are going to succeed....

I'm fairly new to CPA, too. And I have lost some money on PPC and PPV. The other day, an experience guy congratulated me for spending the money on that instead of more ebooks.

He says " How do you learn in CPA? You lose some money". How do you fail in CPA? You spend all your money on ebooks....

I am convinced at this point that if

1)have your mind right, as in productive thinking, law of attraction, etc

2)you get good a traffic capture

      3)you understand copywriting principals

You can write your own ticket online.

Ok.. Lets start with the basics.
Before you say it isn't working, how are you working it?
Can you let us know how you are marketing / what are you doing?
As others have said and I'll reiterate, when you start up you should pick 1 technique. There are a bunch of ways that you can market (blogs, articles, forums, ppc advertising).
Pick 1 techniques, research how to successfully implement it and work at it 1-2 hrs a day for a few weeks, you should see success.

background: When we started, we were throwing our stuff out there and providing 1/2 completed techniques, or just poorly done marketing. Then we sat down and developed a strategy, and started focusing on 1 technique, and putting some effort into another, and started seeing results in just a few days.

    Hi Netdriven...I feel your pain.

Let me give you a ray of hope and show you how to make CPA work...at least this is one method I recently learned and it is working very well and results are almost immediate.

I am using a two-step survey technique that is converting very well. Currently I'm floated between 12% and 15% conversion rate...which for the offer I'm promoting works out to an earnings of $.14-$.19 per click.

Here's what I'm doing in short....I will provide a link below to the forum post I learned this from.

This particular offer is on the Inuvo network. It's for a chance to get a free designer womens handbag. Here is a link to see it live: Get a Designer Handbag of your choice

P.S. That's not my affiliate link.

The offer only requires a first page submit of a zip code and the payout is $1.35 per submit. I like zip code offers because people are not nearly as apprehensive about giving out a zip vs. an email or phone number.

So here's what I'm doing to get traffic and good conversions.

Step 1: I'm finding a popular current event that is happening...for example the whole Sandra Bullock drama. The important thing is that there be alot of buzz about it going on. The more buzz the more traffic. A good way to find some good topics to build poll questions around is to go here: Yahoo! Buzz Index - Today's Top 20 Overall Searches You will see what's popular and being searched for the most online.

Step 2: I think of a good poll question and then make a ridiculously simple poll question page. The best way to explain it is to show you. Here is a link to a dummy page without affiliate links. It should be pretty much self explanatory: Cast Your Vote - Should Kate Gosselin Go Home?

As you can see a 3 yr old on a solid diet of paint chips could do this! haha It's not pretty and it's not complicated. When the visitor clicks on yes or no it just shoots them straight to the offer and it works like a champ.

Now in the case of the handbag offer...I purposely chose an offer directed towards women. Use a little common sense...just think what type or gender of person would be interested or emotionally connected to the poll questions...then find and offer (I recommend start with zip offers) that fits the bill.

Step 3: Traffic. I am just using adwords content network only. NO search network. I have a program that I love called Keyword Elite that I HIGHLY recommend. www.keywordelite.com What I did in this case is make a large list of keywords related to Sandra Bullock and also Celebrity Gossip. Using keyword elite I generated a list of around 1500 keywords is about 10min. You could also use google keyword tool to start a good list.

How I setup my adwords campaign: As I mentioned I am only interested in content network. I simply setup a campaign targeted to US only (because my offer only pays on US traffic) and dropped in my keywords. Think of the keywords and painting a picture for google of the general theme you are wanting to have your ads associated with. So what happens is your ad only shows up on sites that have content about Sandra Bullock or other celebrity gossip type content.

I started my per click bid at $.20 for about 24 hrs to get some traffic started and then bumped my bids down to $.10 to $.08. (I admit I don't know if this is a necessary strategy but I read it somewhere and it seems to work well for me) My current average CPC is $.07
I have noticed quite a fluctuation in traffic depending on time of day and what news is out on the subject. For example my hits yesterday where 101 for the Sandra Poll and at the moment of writing this today are so far at 373 and counting.

I will give an example of one of my ads but just test on your own to get good click through rates. .25% or better is doing great.

    Sandra Bullock Drama
    1 minute poll.
    Will Sandra forgive Jesse?

That ad is getting at CTR of .40% at present
The secret to writing a good ad is tapping into emotions. Women love "drama" so I used that word in the headline. And the whole question of forgiving Sandra's cheating husband is a deep cut for many women...they really respond to that type of question.

    My results so far:

Started 3 days ago April 6th.

    Total Revenue to date: $319.95
    Ad Spend: $210.51
    Profit: $109.44
    ROI: 151.9%

I'm sure these figures could be tweaked with conversion testing to get even better results but thats $109.44 in my pocket in my first 3 days. If I can increase by results and efforts by a factor of just 5 that would be over $1000/wk in profits.

So, I don't claim to be an expert but the above method will put you in profit mode if you use it correctly.

I have mostly tried PPC with Banners on Myads, and Adbrite. I continually look for free traffic sources but they have been hard for me to find. I haven't been able to make any landing pages because the way I learned about this said I could copy and paste those. At the bottom of this thread, I realize there are many things I have overlooked, and never even knew. I do retract my statement about CPA not working, as I know it works for many. So I have abandoned my copy and paste banner campaign on ppc ad spots. I am going to research diff ways of obtaining traffic...

      CPA does work.

The key to any affiliate offer - be it CPA or CPS - is getting Targeted Traffic to it. People who are actively looking for what you've got to offer.

PPC is the best way to get targeted traffic. As with everything, there is a learning curve in becoming successful with PPC, but it sure is worth it.

I've been successful with the big 3, Adwords, Yahoo & MSN. Haven't had much success with the 2nd tier search engines.

I tried Adbrite but couldn't get it to become profitable.

The bottom line is that you've got to stay focused on what you are doing and not get distracted by all the shiny objects out there. Success will come.

CPA definitely works. I currently use free methods to get traffic to my landing page and i am doing great.

I suggest you try free methods like "article marketing" and SEO generally.

CPA offers obviously work - there wouldn't be networks full of offers, and affiliates always promoting them if they didn't

Well it's work but competition is growing so you need to work harder to achieve results.

I would suggest you to start testing new campaings instead of top EPC campaings but I may be wrong.

This is what I do because I guess it's hard if I promote a campaign with marketers being marketing it for many weeks or months. So, I try to find new converting campaigns because EPC could mean some other people are already promoting it massively, it's then probable that most of your prospects would have already seen your offers somewhere...so no need for them to register again

I like others on here have not had much luck with 2nd tier ad networks like Adbright. PPC on the google content network is currently working well for me. I will test out MSN and Yahoo soon as well.

If it's something I'm interested in..I pretty much fill them out several times a day. I haven't had luck in the CPA area either. Let's just keep plucking along.

only ones making money from cpas are the advertisers, network and adwords.

    not the publisher.

    Hi Netdriven,

Think about it this way. Would people be willing to fill out your offer if you have not given them any value in the first place? This is the problem with quick advertising methods such as PPC and Twitter. Methods such as article marketing and others that provides value before selling to the people gets more conversions and clicks.

The thing here is you have to learn how to sell a product. Once you do, it will be so much easier because CPA is not actually selling but just performing a particular action. I hope you get what I mean here.
