Hey peeps! after success with with other methods I'm now tapping into media buys. Can anyone recommend a source of where you can create your own banner ads yourself?

Or do most people just use photoshop?

thanks all

  • You can use virtually ANY image editing program to create static banner ads... Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Paint.NET, GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, and many, many others.

Jonathan Volk just had a webinar with a big "media buys" guru. He said that ugly ads work well for him. So, according to him, you don't even need beautiful banner ads. He said he has almost no graphic skills -- but he tests a lot of different banner designs.

    • Yeah, I was actually on that Webinar and learned some good stuff, it kind of pushed me into testing now in that arena.

      Sweet! thanks guys

  • Paint(.) net sounds cool, thanks for that tip. I am always looking for solutions to technical questions like this beyond just outsourcing such creation.

  • You should use Photoshop
  • Photoshop is the best tool for image creation. And there is also Macromedia Fireworks....Two awesome softwares!

  • Photoshop or outsource
  • Gimp is a great free tool. Ugly does in fact work, as it attracts the user attention away. Be aware of file size limitations some networks have. AdBlade, as an example, won't allow images over 10k file size. So whatever program you are using to create your images, make sure you can adjust file size.

It's perhaps almost cheaper to go the Elance route, as there are boatloads of free lance banners guys at insanely cheap prices.

Did ANYONE pay attention to Post # 7 above?

      Talk about banner blindness... :p

  • I use photoshop to create my banners but I haven't figured out how to make images like the "click here" text to flash. Do you have to use a certain plugin or another program to make it work?

    • There is an HTML code to make text blink but it does not work in IE only Firefox and maybe a couple other browsers. That code is deprecated and not recommended for use.

Most animated banners are now either done as Flash or as animated GIF files. Do a search and you will find the tools.

      John

ps - My advice is NOT to make/use animated banners. Trust me when I tell you that A) you want the prospect to make an immediate click thru to see your landing page (that's where you sell them - not the banner), B) the banner file size can be too large for some sites, and C) many sites reject animated banners or can't handle flash banners at all. Small, simple, blended or ugly static banners are the best choice.

pps - Anyone feel a media buy WSO in my future?

  • Guys, why would you want to create banners yourself rather than outsorce it?
Make a project on a freelnace site and you will receive a lot of offers. I always prefer specialists do such things for myself and for my projects as I am not a designer myself. And you can find someone to do it for a very reasonable price.
  • Create using photoshop or hire a freelancer to do it for you at odesk, fiverr

    • I've used XHEADER for quite a few of my banners. It's free, very easy to use and comes with a very useful tutorial video.

If you are wondering what banner sizes you should generate, so did I.

Here is a free download link for my summary of the must have sizes for banners:

  • Im looking for a directory listing besides Google to look for a list of sites to advertise banner ads on. I don't want any cookie cutter advertisement sites. Any suggestions?
