Networks cutting back?

Hey guys, I wanted to get your thoughts on this...

Yesterday I received an email from my AM at CX Digital saying that him and a bunch of other people at the network were laid off due to the network downsizing.

I also read today on WF that a bunch of AMs at MediaTrust were let go and that they're shutting down their office in Toronto as well. (This was less surprising, since I heard that they let go over half their staff a few months ago when the new president was brought on board.)

Although I've done a lot of business with both of these networks over the last year or so, my gut tells me I should be focusing my time and efforts on working with networks that are a bit more stable. I just don't want to be in a situation where one day one of these networks goes out of business, or a bunch of their advertisers refuses to pay them, and then I end up not getting paid...

Has anyone else ran into issues recently?

Never ran into any issues. Just make sure that if you are spending a big chunk of change on traffic that your earnings are solid and that your network is very stable

I would definitely belong to many networks, with a handful of the more stable ones for sure. This is a very dynamic industry from the affiliate side, the network side, and the advertiser side, so things change fast and often.

Even if a particular offer on a particular smaller network is making you a lot of money, I still always drive part of that traffic so a less profitable network to mitigate some of the risk. Imagine driving 10's of thousands or more in commissions and the company goes belly up. It happens.

Always think about mitigating risk in this industry. I see so many people drive all traffic to one network and it scares me to hear that.

If you aren't doing huge traffic, its much less of a worry.

oh and i forgot to say run the same offer but rotate networks so Run Offer A on Networks A and B. That way if one network doesnt pay you, the other networks payment will help ease the pain

A lot of these guys are paid on commission so they could be let go for not making quota. Pretty typical in any sales type job.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I recently started working with Clickbooth and Neverblue - been very happy with them so far and they both seem to be a lot more stable. cscarpero, I agree with you about AMs being let go frequently - quite common since it is a sales job. But, I think there should be some concern when 50% or more of a company's staff is let go and their stocks are plummeting (i.e. CX / Cyberplex)
