Email marketing, something may be helpful for you

Hey guys,

Now I will start to post some articles about email marketing with the hope that to help beginners or affiliates who don't know much but wanna to start email marketing. This may include post from any sources that I think it would be helpful for you.

1. CAN SPAM act:

See more updated information here:
The CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business

You must obey the rule or you will get fine upto $16,000.

How to avoid it: You must:

+ State that those email is for advertisement
+ Put an opt out link into the body of message
+ Use an accurate mailing address and contact phone so that people can send you mails to request opt out (normally) or do whatever
+ Opt out the requests within 10 days (so it would be better if you use a software that automatically opt out the requests)

2. Double opt in list:

This is very important, one of the most costly and important things.

People who are in your double opt in email list agree to get advertisement email. So you can send them email (news letters, advertisements...).

The best list, for sure is to build your own list. Make a website, get traffic and get email list from people who sign up for product information or whatever. This is high target email list for a certain product and generate high sales/leads volume.

Normally, we buy email list from data brokers. One way I know they get email list from affiliate network (of course they build their own list). See email submit offers, everyone who submit their email on the first page will give affiliate network (origin affiliate network) and data brokers their email into the double opt in list. This fresh email list is never sold to mailers immediately, they, someone use that list and send to get very high sales/leads and then they sell to the market. That fresh list, if sold to you, will be very very costly. The regular double opt in email list is about 1000/mil and up depend on the quality. So if you want to get more money, try to get better quality email list. I bought an email list from a company, it cost 1500/mils but another company, they sold me 5000/100,000 emails. This is an example of email list price.

Lot of people do spamming. They collect emails and send email to receivers without their permission, so lot of receivers be angry and click SPAM button. Email companies like yahoo, google ... know that is spam and your SPAM point increase. Your IPs and domains used to send email, when get enough spam point, will be blacklisted and your delivery rate, inbox rate will decrease rapidly. You can track if your IPs or domains are blacklisted here:

Email Blacklist Check - See if your server is blacklisted

There are more than 100 email blacklisting organizations, keep your IPs, domain clean, not listed by any agents. This is the reason why I require for all affiliates who work with our network, or any other network, to mask offers link by their own link, just protect network domain clean.

This is very helpful as I'm getting more and more into building my own lists. Thanks!

About masking affiliate links with your own domain, this can become costly plus an administrative nightmare if you're promoting many different offers/products. So is it acceptable to CPA networks to use the numerous domain shortening services like shorturl, bit.ly etc?

You can always set up your own URL shortening script on your own domains. There are free programs out there, such as: The Hide URL script

Most URL shortening domains (bit.ly, tinyurl, etc.) around have been blacklisted by email servers.

It's always best to have your own. Especially if for whatever reason the domain shortening service you are using ever goes down. Then all links in your mailings are dead and you are losing money.

    Part 2:

Now, I'd like to talk about some basic principles about From, Subject and Body

    1. From line: 4 important principles:

    a. The "from line" has legal ramifications:

The name displayed in the "from line" becomes the designated sender, according to CAN-SPAM rules. Be sure to include your client name or company name as part of email address. while it is more common for your company name to be displayed in the "from line", some email clients will display the email address only

    b. Include your client name:

Including your client brand name in many cases impress receivers and increasing opening rate. It worth to test with/without brand name in from line

    c. Keep from line" consistent:

For most promotional email and newsletters, you should keep your "from line" consistent once it's been established. If you believe that different "from line" may work better, you should test the new "from line" vs the former. Be sure to evaluate all test metrics, including open, clickthrough and conversion rate as well as any increases or decreases associated with your email. Do test the new "from line" over a reasonable period of time to see if your response grows or decreases incrementally.

    d. Email from a person-consider all angle first:

You'll wanna to think twice before using a person's name in the "from" statement. Many times, including person name with department will increase opening rate.
