How I made over $700 in 4 days with very little work(*Updated with new twist*)

Hey guys,

This is exactly how I made over $700 in 4 days with very little work.

I am an affiliate of a spanish CPA network and I received an email about a new campaign for teeth whitening. The campaign got me interested because it was about a free sample of a teeth whitening product and it was paying 25 euros (over $30 usd) for each free sample order. The only thing the customer would have to pay for was the shipping and handling costs.

I thought "This is awesome!"

And I quickly got into creating a CPA landing page for this offer. This is the page I came up with: blanqueamientodentalgratis.com (not mine anymore - attached image shows how my CPA landing page looked like)

The translation of the domain would be freeteethwhitening.com (haven't checked if that is available )

After completing my landing page all I had to do now was to promote it.

It had been a long time since I wanted to do some kind of offline marketing and this offer was perfect for it so I decided to give it a shot.

I made a very simple flyer in microsoft word promoting my CPA landing page. The flyer said something like....

It was a very simple flyer in white and black so I printed them myself at home. I printed around 200 of these. There were 4 per page so it was really 50 pages only.

Now, I thought that the best shot at making good profits from this was to look out for targeted traffic. Therefore, I had to give these flyers away to people that were in dentist offices.

What I did was that I talked to the owners of some dentist offices and explained what I had in mind. I explained how this would not affect their customer base because it was only a free sample that was offered and even if they kept on ordering this product they would still need to visit their dentist office because it only solves a superficial dental issue on the person.

I visited 5 dentist offices and 2 accepted to let me give away these flyers at their offices. I had printed 200 flyers so I divided them 100/100.

The result? The title says it all... After 4 days I had made over $700. And some more commissions keep coming from that one offline marketing campaign I did.

    I'd hesitate to do this with my own dentist as the offer was obviously a rebill and sooner or later he's gonna have a que of pissed off customers at his door complaining about the money taken off their cards.

    And can I just ask why you needed a landing page if you were'nt doing PPC? Were you unhappy with the official site? Or simply doing a pre sell?

      I feel that I have much more control of the campaign (in terms of traffic and CTR) by having my own landing page. Also, it gives me total control of how I want to promote it, meaning I can promote it both offline and online with every method possible.

      And when I feel like not working with this campaign anymore I could just flip it

    Ye offline marketing in some niches is my favorite. I remember when i was promoting Clickbank product for weight loss, and what happened, when i set up few posters in local gym. Traffic and sales were insane...and refund rate was extremly low. Thanks for sharing your success..

    • The OP's idea was fantastic and is a great example of out-of-the-box thinking. So, is the idea from Margo.

      @Margo, how did you manage to convince the gym owners to allow your poster on their walls? It would be nice if you can mention your story in more detail in a post or a separate thread.

      By the way, one good method (which just came to my mind) of convincing the gym owners or dentists is to tell them that you will promote their services for free on your website if they allow you to put a poster on their walls and if they distribute your flyers to their customers. You can strike out a deal with them in this manner.

  • Great job, Frankie. You went the extra mile and talked to the dentists about the fliers - you had extremely targeted traffic eating out of your hands, and this would be so simple to scale up just by visiting more dentists and talking to them about the placement of your fliers!

    Just watch local laws and ordinances if you are posting flyers in public places.

    Many of the old school bulletin boards I remember as a kid are long gone, but having them in the dentist's offices is beautiful - 100% laser targeted traffic.

    • Hi, you know, that is an awesome idea, I've done it for my weight loss site....I go to Vista Print where you can get 250 free business cards and just pay about 7 bucks for shipping and they're great to give away in all kinds of places w/out having to put up flyers.

      You can design your own cards.

    ...I would let to lend an air of caution though.

    Many of these offers are able to pay so well because they exploit consumers.

    They make it excruciatingly difficult to cancel the trial, in some cases its nearly impossible. To make it even worse, the price they charge is enormous compared to the industries average on the product.

    Take a look:
    Crest 3d Teeth whiting strips - 22.99 (taken from amazon)
    CPA teeth whiting solution - 69.99 (taken from one of my customers complaints)

    Test the trial process for yourself before you try to promote any of this stuff.
    And go though the whole thing start to finish.

    I've done this, and there are a lot of deceptive practices at work.
    -A support form is worthless when you don't hear back.
    -A phone number to call is worthless when you only get an automated system with no way to cancel your trail.
    - A "cancel now" link is worthless when the page gives you a 404, or a "under construction" page.

    • Yes, I agree. You have to make a choice yourself whether you will go according to your own ethics, me personally I do not promote shady offers, because I would not want to be myself in that position of being scammed by them.

    • I still don't get the payment from this campaign specifically, but I have been paid for other campaigns from the same network. Being paid is not what worries me. I know I'll get paid because I've had no problem with this network.

    By all means scale up but, be careful with the outsourcing of the fliers. Make sure you can verify if the fliers are dropped off or whatever you ask the outsource to do can be verified.

  • Frankie, now go scale it up and start attacking all the dentists in your cities and the surrounding area! Also, as you've mentioned, try to find targeted CPA offers that would work with other types of businesses in your city. Taking a little time to brainstorm and be creative here will yield enormous rewards, so don't forget to do so. You'll probably have zero competition for the time being, so hit this hard while you have a virtual monopoly on the market!

  • Great post Frankie, I like your style, to many people spend time looking busy, with little result, However, I must say that to continue blindly can be dangerous, I simply look at what capture pages are converting, drop the one that arent, scale up the marketing on those that deliver, and we live to fight another day, , as far as offline marketing goes, i think it work because we are not asking for money, or giving prices, simply saying visit this site because I have the solution to your problem.
  • I know the dental market and I am very very surprised you had success with this. Dentists sell the bleach and make the gum mould themself for a premium price.

  • Awesome Frankie, also you might try to figure out a way (maybe the business card angle) to promote this at bars and night clubs... for several reasons. Lots of people smoke (stains teeth) drink wine, cola (stains teeth) and hit bars with some expectation of attracting members of the opposite sex (stained teeth bad).

      I think Make Money Online posters will work everywhere these days. Many people are unemployed and you know finding a job now is not easy. I'd go with it, but I haven't found a product worth promoting in spanish (spanish is the main language here in Puerto Rico).

  • You can get hair extension free trial offers and promote them at hair salons....
    Get identity theft protection/insurance/credit etc related stuff and dump the flyers in apartment complex mailboxes (Chinese takeouts do it all the time!)

    You can distribute flyers at grocery store and amll parking lots too.
    Brilliant combining CPA with offline like that.

    Just a couple days ago decided to finally try affiliate marketing. Picked a product on clickbank and working on setting everything up. I was just wondering if you dont mind telling me what affiliate network did you use to sell this CPA.

    I've bin doing offline marketing and one of the niches was the dentist industry here in Seattle, so I have a all the market research done. I would really like to try selling this product to them offline and maybe make my first money with Affiliate marketing by following your system. Again that is only if you don't mind me trying to sell the same product.

    • First for all, thank you! Now to your questions...

      1- You need to know a bit of html at least. Don't go copy/paste unless you are using a wysiwyg html editor (which I recommend if you don't know raw html coding). Go search on google for wysiwyg html editor and you'll find a free software for sure.

      2- I recommend LinkConnector to start with because they are not too picky with new affiliates.

      I don't mind you promoting the same product at all! But I really don't know in which cpa network you'll find this product being promoted in english. I know it has to be in english somewhere because it is from IdolHealth and they promote the hell out of their products in english.

      This campaign was in spanish, so I can't really tell you what network to find the english campaign. I don't know. I hope you find it.

  • I went into some local dentists today to ask about this.

    Here is where I'm at currently:

    1) Dentists who OWN the practices are inheritently busy with patients, so you need to speak to the practice manager - at least that's the position here in the UK. I went in and said I have an exciting business opportunity to the receptionist and she pointed me to the practice manager and gave me her name.

    2) I am going to make a small proposal sales letter to take into the practice managers I got the details for. I am going to try and sell it like this: The free trials will give customers a "taste" for the product, and will entice them to persue the treatment with their actual dentist. I need to look at the CPA products I have access to and see their pros & cons - I'll basically explain to the dentist that there will be some shortfall with the product which will allow them to capitalize on the offer and make some money from the Interested folks. For example, the teeth whitener CPA product may be great for the first few weeks but will then get boring to use every day, so the dentist could offer a monthly bleaching solution or something.

    I have some practice managers on my database right now so I am in the process of writing some actual sales material and then going to send in the proposal.

      Good Luck! It's good to see people taking action!

      However, I recommend that you talk to the practice manager in person and not just giving him/her a proposal. It's far better to sweet-talk people in this situations. If possible, get some flyers done and show it to him/her.

      Btw, one of the ways I plan to scale this up is to put up a squeeze page instead of a "click here" landing page.

      Why?

      Well, this is my new twist to the method. And I hope you take notes because there's MORE money to be made...

      However, this is still an idea, and it is NOT yet a proven method.

      Anyway, here's the twist...

      Using a squeeze page rather than a regular landing page with a "click here" button, will allow you to not just send the person to the CPA offer, but also it will allow you to do business with the dentist offices that allowed you to give away flyers!

      How? Very simple.

      Once you have a list of people who wanted to have a free sample of the teeth whitening product you offered, you can market to them whatever you want.

      Now it's time to call those dentists and tell them that you have a nice list of people who are interested in teeth whitening. What does the dentist have to offer to them?

      Maybe the dentist will agree to do some sort of deal with you. You never know!

      As far as I am concerned, dentists don't have a follow-up plan with their clients. At least not in my local area. And what is better for them than having someone do that for them?

      You will have a HIGHLY targeted list of people and YOU know what they want. It's just a matter of getting them what they want. And your dentist definitely WANT more clients.

      Now, you would think... You got the list from people getting flyers IN the dentist office. Why would the dentist make a deal with you being it is around their OWN clients?

      That's a good question, but it also has a great answer.

      You see, most of the people who go to the dentist is because they have some sort of discomfort in their mouth. Whether it is pain, bleeding, stains, or whatever...

      Therefore, VERY few care about teeth whitening or any treatment they think its useless. As long as their mouth doesn't hurt or bleed, and they are able to eat, they are good and they dont need a dentist.

      It's easy to test it... Ask your family or close friends when was the last time they visited their dentist...

      That's the very simple reason why your dentist might be willing to do business with you. You could get you dentist regular visits from people interested in teeth whitening because you convince them that they NEED the dentist's treatments.

      I'd say 9 out of 10 people need teeth whitening treatment. But very few care about it or notice it. That's where you come in!

      Think about it...

      And that's not only with teeth whitening... it applies for any other treatment and any other market.

      In summary...

      1- Put up a squeeze page (not a landing page with a button)
      2- Build a list and send them your first offer (cpa offer)
      3- Call small business owners (dentists for example) and tell them about your list and the possibilities to do business.
      4- Close the deal and make cash!
      5- Rinse and repeat with another market...

    • Thank you! CPA landing pages should be very simple and straight-to-the-point with a call-to-action. The call to action could be a button or an opt-in form if you want to build a list and then send them to the offer.

  • You know what impresses me about what you did?

    Just the fact you actually handed them out to people. I have been brainstorming and developing this idea since reading about it and yesterday could have went out and did it but was just not motivated. And I think the reason why was because I planned on putting them under windshield wipers.

    I honestly don't think that will be as affective as what you did. Even if I put out more like 500-1000. That type of advertising I think just tends to piss people off.

    So I'm actually backtracking now and going back to square A. I'm just going to do it exactly how you did. There is definitely somewhat of a personal element in this that I think brought you the success. People were able to actually associate a FACE to the offer. And you look like a friendly/good looking guy. I honestly think that had a lot to do with your conversions.

    People just felt "friendly" about the whole thing I believe. They didn't feel spammed they felt like they were getting a real offer just because a person was standing right behind the offer.

    I'm a fairly friendly/goodlooking guy myself and was just apprehensive about how I was going to deliver the ads. But I'm going to walk right in like you did and if people reject the idea I'll just go on to the next office like you did. I have enough offices around me to not be so worried about rejection anyways.

    So now my main thing is because I stalled on this after the rain of course now its xmas eve so I'm likely gonna have to wait till monday now to do this. By handing them out I won't be able to get as many out but at least I'll be able to somewhat presell them as I hand them out.

    This is my method (frankies method lol) and I'm sticking to it. To be executed next monday. Will absolutely update as promised. And the reason I'm doing this one specifically is because I had already been promoting a free teeth whitening product and just know theres lots of people who would want a free trial like this. Just have not gone straight to dentists offices yet but it was definitely in the back of my mind.

    Will be back in a couple of days hopefully I will have some news for the forum by then.

    • Actually I didn't hand them out myself. It's a good idea though. The bad thing about giving them out yourself is that you will need to spend a lot of time in the dentist office.

      What I did was that I left them on one of the reception tables and people who came in would see it and grab one if interested.

      I think it helps to leave them on one of the dentist tables because people relate the dentist with the offer. They probably think it must be approved by the dentist him/herself because it's been given away in the office. So it means the offer becomes more appealing and convincing.

    I'm just about done with my landing page & plan on uploading it to here so people can see an american translation of your idea. But I am getting stuck on the teeth. I have literally been switching teeth in & out for about an hour now and can't decide on this one thing.

    Should the teeth be sexed or should they be an ambigous sex?
    Your teeth are obviously from a female. And thats what I started with. But then I thought "what if men want to whiten their teeth too?" I'm wondering if it will create any resistance just because a females mouth is pictures. On the otherhand the obvious market here is women so it likely won't make that big a difference.

      Hey Red, I think it really won't matter what sex you use for the pictures. As long as it shows the difference as in "before and after", it won't really matter.

      However, I could be wrong. You could split-test your flyers and see what converts better.

    Still gotta edit a couple tags but that'll take 2 minutes to do. Right now I'm printing out the flyers and will be going out very soon.

    I have one thing to say though I haven't even started promoting this offer and I'm glad I did the landing page. I happened to stumble upon a book last night that I would have never have found if I stayed searching for techniques within the first page of google.

    What I did was purposely click the pages that were farther back. Like 7, then 13, etc. Just doing it to see if I can find any really unique methods.

    Well guess what? I did. In fact I found the best book in CPA I've ever read before up untill now. In the book it had a teethwhitening method. A method that is so insanely simple and logical I can ONLY see it making money. Although it does involve using DMR's to hide traffic so yes its a bit BlueFart. Still, the way the method works its still getting good leads for this place afaic.

    Frankie I'm going to put these flyers out first and then I have my long term plan which will be going into action. And I can really see myself pulling multiple leads a day easily by doing it. I just want to get your feedback on the actual method. If there is anyway you could pm me your email frankie I'd really appreciate it. You may likely already know the method, or you might not, all I know is its a great idea especially for this offer and I want to try it after these offline fliers go out.

    • Well today I wound up wasting 6 hours just on the flyers and by the time they were all done it was after closing time for most offices.

      Good news is however I put A LOT of effort into the flyers too. I have 3 different sets of them with 500 in each set. One set is colored on thick high gloss paper and then a black & white version on the same paper. I wound up liking the black & white more (just came out more professional looking) so I did another 500 on ivory stock paper.

      I just didn't expect the cutting to take as long as it did.

      But anyway as I was cutting I thought of another good technique to get them out which is tanning salons/beauty salons as well as dentists offices. I also developed a pitch in my head which goes like this:

      "Hi I'm a marketing student attending XXX university (am alumni & just graduated so its not really a lie) and part of my job is to help a company market their free product so they can gain new clientel. I'm giving you 30 cards (flyers) as we can't give away too many but I'd appreciate it you handed them out to people who were interested. Heres by business card & feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns".

      Its a solid delivery imo because it SELLS the hell out of it. The business cards contain a free google phone number that I set up temporarily which goes straight to my cell. I doubt I will actually be getting calls or even picking up the phone but it will look that much more legit and like the offer I'm doing is really an awesome deal. Plus I did not want to hand out too many at one place and figured setting a scarcity mindset would be good. If I walk in with 50 or 100 they might be more turned off or think its some kind of scam so I'm trying to make it look like its something that "my friends" company is trying to keep low key. All part of setting a frame that seems urgent & of high value.

      So thats it! Flyers are all cut up. Tommorow I get home from a meeting at noon and will be going out then. I want to get out at least 1000 if possible tommorow so I'll be visting TONS of dentists offices/tanning & beauty salons.

      This is the last day & will be no more delaying. So tommorow we will absolutely have some results to show (I pray to death I will lol).

      Oh and frankie I still gotta pm you too getting to that right now.

  • Hey Red, I hope you made sure that you track all the traffic that comes to your website... That way to can measure conversions and you will know what worked and what didn't.
  • Oh hell yeh this works! 4 conversions so far and only got 50 out so far. I Going crazy now trying to get out more as I'm running late once again. Either way I got off tommorow and this is all I really needed to see for myself.

    FLYERS WORK. I really think its how you deliver them and the pitch you use that matters the most. The pitch I'm using is that this is an internship assignment for college and I really think that was the trick for getting people to feel comfortable with it all. I'm not blanketing cars am strategically getting them into offices 1 by 1.

    This is going to turn into a 2 day event just to properly get them all out and tommorow I got off all day so I think these conversions are just going to keep going up and up. (hopefully)

  • Yes definitely do it. I can upload the exact flyers I'm using either tonight or tommorow.
    The method I'm using too is really just so solid you should steal my pitch too. I'm telling you these people (dentist owners/salon owners) are eating it right up with stuff like "oh where do you go to school? whats your major? my son/daughter when to x school blah blah blah". They think its an assignment so gladly take the flyers and leave them right on the desk at the tanning salons.

    I just can't wait till tommorow so I can get out the majority of what I have. Seeing conversions with only a few out this is definitely gonna rank up some bank for me.

    Any help you need throughout the way I'll tell you everything I did.

    CPA ROCKS! And I can't thank Frankie enough for this thread I really want to get to know all you guys so we can really start trading solid ideas and making money for ourselves.

    And to the iamnewbie forums for internet marketing that called warrior forum a bunch of hype and bs I'd really like to tell those assholes to kiss my ass right now. When I went to that forum before becoming a member here I saw nothing but them badmouthing the vets on this forum for taking advantage of newbies and all the hype that is promoted on here. But you know what? We got more members here. And that = more intelligence, more techniques, more people willing to help you succeed. Just to think they had the nerve to tell me I wouldn't be making money for years and tried to get me to accept that reality which is why I left those forums and came here.

    NOONE will EVER tell me I'm not succeeding in anything. And this forum is really the best out there. So much thanks for everything I'm learning on here I really am starting to love CPA.

    Just an idea, wouldn't it be smarter to also have a mobile landing page (link on flyer) for the email submit, considering the targeted traffic is already sitting in a dentist office waiting, with nothing to do, bored out of their minds.

    Most folks have internet ready cell phones.

  • Congrats on your success. Have you tried different sizes for your flyers - half page, post card, biz card sizes, coupons? If not, give it a try. You may find a better response rate and cut your printing costs.

Haha look I'll be straight with you before I went out and did my little pitch everyone I showed this to said "dentists are not gonna wanna do it, you are their direct competition no matter how you pitch it". My brother who's been in sales for 40 years was the one who really pushed that fact on me, and he was right.

      So I figured out 2 things. One, first you do not even need dentists. Its much easier to get into tanning salons (although I had to go back to a lot of them twice just for the owner) beauty salons, barbers, even gyms are a great place to get into. But to make it work with dentists specifically you really NEED to use the college pitch cause it worked very well for me.

      Tell them you're doing an internship. Make a business card with a newly generated google number. Put your name on it and make some generic crappy marketing company name. Like you just started the company yesterday. Tell them "I'm doing a marketing internship for x university".
      I helping promote a product through risk free trials like netflix does, theres
      no risk involved and its one of the oldest marketing techniques in the book.

      I'm telling you this will IMMEDIATELY drop resistance if they think you are an idiot and just doing this for your first time. They will drop their resistance even more knowing or assuming its for an internship. "Oh thats cute, he's trying to learn etc etc". Its called presenting false vulnerabilities in psychological terms. A great way for dropping anyones resistance is making them believe you're weaker or dumber than they are. "How can this idiot ever create competition for me its his first time doing this?"

      With that shpeal I got into 4 of 5 places I went into.

      So far my earnings on this are up to $308, about 11 conversions. So I don't even think my ROI's is as good as it should be but I'm still VERY happy with what I was able to achieve and what I can still do with this. It took MUCH longer to get the flyers out than I thought. And I still have about 700 left that I haven't even put out yet. I'm saving them cause I'm updating my process for a new delivery next week.

      I plan on evolving this method and taking it into other venues with different offers too. So if people don't see me posting don't think I'm done with this by any means. I'm just getting started is the reality. =] Just remember I progress really slow with anything I do because I usually am doing 3-4 things at once. Just the way I work. But I will absolutely be back to this thread as things progress and my bank grows even larger with these workable offline techniques. I'd say about once or twice a week you will see me bumping this thread, and I still need to get my flyers up which I will also do soon.

      Yes, I left the stack of flyers on one of the reception tables. I didn't have to pay anything.

      No wordpress. I just designed the landing page on Photoshop and then put it all together with html. But you can use wordpress if you like.

      This thread is not intended to make you do exactly as I did. I just wanted to open your mind to the possibilities with CPA and offline marketing.

      Just think outside the box and you can come up with a great method yourself.
    • Hey, you don't need trial offers. You can apply this method to any other offer you can think of - even with sales. I do a similar method with Clickbank products.

    However, I really don't agree with these offers nor could I personally endorse them from a personal standpoint. I mean, look - just getting them into dentists' offices seems to involve trickery and moral entropy. I'm glad it works for you guys and you earn money (sometimes these products are even good) but I think I'll be picking a different route personally.

  • I want to share a flyers pattern so you get an idea of how to make your own flyers.

    But this is just a sample flyer. Your flyers don't need to be exactly like this.

    Oh and your flyers don't need to be pretty. You just need to deliver a clear message to the right target market. Once you prove the market is profitable and your campaign works, make your flyers better
