Hi there, I'm gonna be creating my first email list soon but I had a question that I hoped one of you folks might have the answer to.

Is there such thing as List Quality? Sort of like with adwords you don't want to spend money attracting visitors that won't convert, well what about filling up your email list?

Are there any tips to make sure the addresses you are collecting that a certain percentage of them will hopefully convert? I suppose a lot of this could start with what type of offer you are using to get them on the list in the first place.

Also...Aweber, Getresponse, or econnectemail? Getresponse seems like it would be a good fit for me but I know most people on the forums use aweber.

I think it makes sense to split your list. Those that buy go on to a buyers list and those that download a freebie on another.
Obviously a list of proven buyers in your niche is far more powerful than a list of none buyers.

Andy is right on the mark.

Split your lists into as many groups as possible. Any different way you get traffic should have a separate list so you can track it. You can send them all the same messages after they are in your lists, but you want them separated for analysis purposes.

Even if your traffic is from the same source and you change your incentive for signing up, have the new sign-ups go into a new list.

    Hey UN

what autoresponder you use really depends on what you are trying to achieve with your autoresponder. I find too many newbies yeah great I am going to create an awesome email marketing cmapaign that is going to make me a passive income without even creating a strategy for their plan. It seems you are also making the same mistake, deciding which autoresponder to use should be last as the benefits and down falls of each vary and will affect how you want to use it. For example

Aweber is great for scalability and newbie marketers who want a quick set-up option. however it has no flexability with api intergration for customer segmentation by demographics and intergrating with other applications such as google analytics.

Mailchimp is great if your business is more socially focused and looks to really interact with your customers as it has a great facebook and twitter intergration. But lacks performance when it comes to product launch time as you have to manually unsubscribe each subcription from one list if you want to add them to another. Also the cost can be higher than aweber if you don't watch out because if one person subcribes to all your list in mailchimp e.g. 3 lists then you are paying for 3 subscribers not just 1 unlike in aweber where it would only be 1 person.

As for Infusionsoft I honestly think it is way overpriced for the service it offers but it offers a uniques service that allows you to send emails based on action tiggers, not just time triggers. I use this for my automated webinar systems as it requires an action based program to work.

I hope this helps out a bit, if you got some more questions feel free to pm me and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for mentioning us, Joshua. Indeed, we're not the cheapest, but that's not what we claim to be. We see ourselves as the optimal solution beyond a MailChimp or an iContact to automate more than email.

Another note about Infusionsoft -- you can have it start and stop campaigns automatically and leverage the recipient's action when they click links to kick off any number of events.

    Ahh listbuilding quality...

Yes, as a general rule, the more you can segment your list, the more tailored of a marketing message you can present and the higher conversino you should receive. Obviously theres a balance because the harder it is to keep track and manage yoru campaigns with more and more segregated lists.

As for actual quality of email opt ins...I mean on one hand you want quality, but on the other, it doesnt really matter if bad quality prospects sneak onto your list. They are better than nothing and can't hurt. I mean I suppose if you are reaching a subcriber threshold where the monthly subcription will be bumped (like Aweber etc) then it may matter but at that point you should have a big enough list to pay for the upgraded list size.

So yes, quality is good, but having lwoer quality subcribers usually cant hurt.
