Can you use a suppression list?

I've search here and on the net but couldn't find a direct answer.
Disclaimer: I'm am a new IM'er so go easy! (prob all sick of hearing that)

I understand why a CPA network uses a suppression list etc etc But my question is:

Can you use or take a suppression list from a CPA network and use this list to market other non CPA products to the list? I assume not, but seen as though I couldn't find any answers I thought I'd ask the question here.

I guess the list wouldn't be targeted at all so you would probably not receive a lot of conversions...

I'd say no.

And what the heck is a suppression list? I think you mean marketing to an existing database/ e-mail list? If it says e-mail traffic allowed, you can market to a proper "opted in" e-mail list ... but spamming folk will get you banned!

One of the worst things you could possibly do in this industry is market a suppression list. A suppression list is essentially a list of email addresses that have OPTED OUT so that they do NOT receive any kind of marketing information from an advertiser/product/etc.

In suppression lists there are seed email addresses, so if you attempt to market the list and hit any one of these seed email addresses, the network that has the offer is going to boot you faster than you can say "pixel". You'll never be able to work with said network/advertiser again, and you are basically forfeiting all your commissions.

No no, I don't mean using the list for CPA offers, as of course the network would ping you, I mean for CB or CJ offers etc... (totally seperate from CPA networks) Just wondering if people actually do this (aside from actually building a real 'list' of their own). I suppose it's just spamming an untargeted list at the end of the day - prob get very little results...

Exactly. Marketing to the supression lists isn't allowed and you will get caught very fast. So just use them with the purpose that they have been created for, nothing else.
