What Should I Charge?

AD NETWORKS

I have a website that has about 700 pages and gets 10,000 to 20,000 visits a month. Its home page only has a pagerank of 2. It's a directory of activities available for children in my geographic area. I originally made it to learn website design and seo and because I saw a need for a resource like this. I have Adsense on it and it makes money, but not much compared to the hours I've spent writing the content.

An ad agency has contacted me inquiring about advertising on my site. They want to place a link ad on my site for a flat fee. Their client's services are probably something that my visitors would be interested in, although it's not directly related to my topic. I think they would get some good traffic from my site. The ad agency has other clients as well, and if this performs for them, they may wish to place additional ads.

So here's the question. He's asked me what my rates are. Any idea what I should charge?

What's the size of the agency? Do you think they have enough money to make a hefty offer?

With that much content and visits a month, you can make a nice chunk of change.

They obviously came to you so that's in your favor, but I would personally do it as a month-to-month offer...it will probably allow you to collect from them for longer...if i get a flat fee upfront I have a bad tendency of using it up quickly, whereas month-to-month is a steady flow of income

my suggestions:

flat fee: ~$500-600 for 3 months
month-to-month: ~$175

Depends on the size ofthe agency.

Best thing to do is look at some of the rates the bigger websites charge like cnn, forbes, thesun etc ... then just bring your prices down a bit. But just call up some bigger sites and gauge what the current market rates are ... ESPECIALLY in your field as well (not just general media outlets). That will give you a fair idea of what to charge!
