Renting/Buying Lists, Mass Emailing and MaxBounty; I need some help...

Hi folks,

Email marketing looks really attractive to me. I am exploring some offline CPA marketing, too, but am interested in email.

I much prefer the concept of finding and renting or buying an email list than creating landing pages and building my own list. I'm sure that there are good reasons to do the latter, but I'm most interested, at the time, in the former, and it's with that, that I would appreciate some advice.

1. Can anyone suggest a reputable list provider? I've found a number of them when searching for "opt-in email lists", or "double opt-in email lists", but I wouldn't mind any particular recommendations. One I've looked at is Nextmark, which I read about in a guide for offline (postcard) marketing, and I saw today that they also have email lists.

I should mention that I don't have a big budget.

2. I don't want to get in trouble for violating CAN-SPAM or any such act. Is it good enough if the list broker/provider can certify that they're CAN-SPAM compliant, and if I put the email together according to the CPA network's (MaxBounty, in this case) offer/network-specific rules (ie, "From" field, "Subject" field, using the provided HTML if I'm not creating my own newsletter, and checking the purchased/rented list against the offer's suppression list of those who don't want to receive emails about it)?

3. Okay, so if I've found my list, what's the best way to email it? I've found a few companies that do bulk emailings at what look like reasonable rates and can use suppression lists, HTML, etc., but again, I'm looking for suggestions if anyone has them.

4. Any thoughts on particular offers, or sorts of offers that convert well with this sort of marketing?

If I'd be using MaxBounty's required HTML templates for the emails, I'm assuming that the email's links/banners would lead directly to the merchant site, so no landing page of mine would be present.

Sorry if some of this has been mentioned around here. I did search but couldn't find a lot of answers all together. Your thoughts are really appreciated!

Thanks.

I'd play it really safe especially if you're using Maxbounty, which is a pretty nice network that I'm also a member of.

What I would suggest using are co-registration leads that you can purchase at Getresponse, since they're a large autoresponder company these leads will definitely all be CAN-SPAM compliant. Once these leads have opted into your list at Getresponse, you'd can either send them a broadcast email, or queue up the approved email messages from Maxbounty in the autoresponder.

      Hi Paul,

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm not entirely clear on what you mean, however. I've gone to GetResponse, but I don't see anywhere to get these co-registration leads.

Also, when you say "Once these leads have opted into your list at Getresponse", this suggests that I'd have a list of my own - which isn't the case. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding your explanation; I'm looking for the best safe way to use a pre-existing opt-in list that I'd be paying for rights to use to send CPA offers to.

Or are you simply saying that what I want to do isn't the best way to do it?

      Thanks again.

If you want to get into email marketing, start by doing adswaps. There are many people that'll help you build a list starting from scratch. It's 100% free as well to line out partners and there is an entire section in this forum that is dedicated to lining out ad swaps/jv partners. Look into and if you stay consistent with your swaps you'll build a huge list quickly...however always remember to keep a good relationship with your readers!

It's not the size that matters its the quality!
