10 questions from a google content network newb....

so I have been promoting on google search keywords for my web design business. I found that I would spend about $50~$100 for a client which would net me $500~$900.

Anyways, it was very tough since I would get about 10 leads for $100 and only 1 or 2 would have the money for the project quoted (lot of freeloaders it seems).

I want to now promote CPA offers, and other products on clickbank or CJ....

If I understand correctly CPA offers pays the affiliate an agreed fixed rate per lead acquisition. This differs from pay-per-sale since the affiliate marketer and the product owner share risks more evenly than PPS in which the affiliate marketer takes all the risks.

Here are my questions for promoting CPA offers on Google content network:

1) Why does google keep disapproving my destination URL directly to tracking202 or CPA landing page ?
Code:
networktrakr.com/aff=22222&camp=something
2) Which offers require landing page which don't ? Google has no guidelines. Some offer pages have submission form on their landing page....I'd hate to create my own. Why not let marketers link directly ?
Code:
networktrakr.com/aff=22222&camp=something
3) How do you discover/search for sites on google network to advertise in ?

4) Is advertising on youtube successful for CPA ?

5) Is content network as competitive as google search ? Do I have bid like $2~$4 per click ??! How much should you generally spend on bids.

6) What sort of landing pages does google allow ? Doesn't bland looking landing pages hurt conversions ? I'd much rather use my cpa offer's landing page.

7) If my campaign is accepted and ads are running, and I edit my destination landing page code to meta refresh directly to CPA offer, is this allowed or safe ? What's the chance of getting caught.

8) I've seen some shady landing pages that try to imitate a news site with fake comments and testimonials with testimonee photos from istockphoto. I've also seen landings pages claiming the product or their site was featured on CNN and forbes. They use CNN and Forbes logos ! Isn't this illegal ?????

9) Is there a chance for small marketers like me on google network or is it dominated and saturated already ?

10) What are some must read blogs and sites ?

Lot of questions and Thanks for reading guys ! I am really excited about starting on Google network, and hope to learn more !

    1) Why does google keep disapproving my destination URL directly to tracking202 or CPA landing page ?

Check your display URL, it need to be the final page, not the one that redirects people.

    2) Which offers require landing page which don't ? Google has no guidelines. Some offer pages have submission form on their landing page....I'd hate to create my own. Why not let marketers link directly ?

Google wants to deliver only quality results to their users, so everybody direct linking to the same offer isn't what they want.

Most of the times you will need a landing page. Some offers, like (some, not all) dating sites may pass without a landing page, but other offers probably won't be accepted.

Google doesn't like email/zip submits, so you need to put them deeper into your site. Rebills are a no no as well, so you need to use opt-in landers and promote them with autoresponder series.

    3) How do you discover/search for sites on google network to advertise in ?

You can use Google AdPlanner. You can also start campaigns with keywords and start bidding on placements when you find a few good ones.

    4) Is advertising on youtube successful for CPA ?

I have already tried a couple things there, but it seems to be harder than the search and content network.

    5) Is content network as competitive as google search ? Do I have bid like $2~$4 per click ??! How much should you generally spend on bids.

Depends on the vertical and keywords.

    6) What sort of landing pages does google allow ? Doesn't bland looking landing pages hurt conversions ? I'd much rather use my cpa offer's landing page.

You need to offer relevant content for their users. If you do it, you can use review pages, opt-in landers, etc... Just avoid pages linking to many offers, because Google will say that it's a bridge page anmd won't accept it.

    7) If my campaign is accepted and ads are running, and I edit my destination landing page code to meta refresh directly to CPA offer, is this allowed or safe ? What's the chance of getting caught.

100% of chances of getting caught. Google isn't EzineArticles, if you change something on your site they will see, and if they don't like it you will have problems.

Most of the times these pages have disclaimers saying that everything is fake, or the word "ADVERTORIAL" on top. However, you shouldn't use them on Google. People using them there will probably get caught. This type of landing page performs very well on other platforms, but Google is not a good platform to promote them.

    9) Is there a chance for small marketers like me on google network or is it dominated and saturated already ?

There is a chance for you if you're smart. AdWords still is a very good platform and you can make a killing there, but if you have no experience I recommend you to start with another (easier) platform.

    10) What are some must read blogs and sites ?

An even better reason NOT to use faux blogs or fake news sites is that the FTC doesn't like them. You don't want to wake the bear.

thank you so much for those answers ! I have a few more.

    1) Where is your ebook on advertising on networks? I saw the thread a while back but can't remember the name.

    2) Any rule of thumb to how much you should spend on a click ? Some say bid 0.30 per click on $2 payout but, if the EPC is only $0.20 per click that would mean this is not a good campaign ? Possible to get CPM traffic so that my CPC is like $0.01 ?

    3) What other advertising platforms do you recommend ?

I have created a software service that will show you what ads and landing pages are working on Google content and other contextual networks.

If you want to check it out you can sign up for free while we are in beta using the link in my sig. Spend a few hours inside and you will know more than most marketers who have been using Google content for years.

I'd answer your questions but William covered them pretty well.
