Hi Guys,

Ok -- I am fairly new to CPA, and thinking of getting into it, I think I have the general idea, but some specific questions:

1. How exactly does it work? Does the customer actually "get" something (like a free iPhone, etc) -- for entering their information? Or is it a contest specific to the vendor (i.e., some will, some won't?)

2. Generally speaking, is it the complete address/username information? Or something else?

3. Does the customer actually have to make a purchase in order for you to get a commission? Or -- does that depend on the vendor?

4. What are some good 'repuatable' CPA networks? (I.e., they actually pay you, and the offers presented to the customer are actually good ones (i.e., if it was a "free" iPhone, the customer would actually "get" a free iPhone as opposed to it being a deceiving ad just to get them to sign up, etc).

5. Anything else important that I should know about CPA networks?

Thanks!

John

Hi John, welcome to the wonderful world of CPA! There are a ton of people on this board way more knowledgable than me, so I know you will get some useful answers. That being said, see my responses below:

    1. This depends, there are ton of offers out there. For those e-mail/zip submits that offer a free iPad for testing, the user must enter the initial info (e-mail/zip) then enter their full information. Then they need to complete a certain number of offers provided by the advertiser (this will be stated on the initial offer page, no surprises there). After they do this I believe they are then qualified, I'm not sure about how the delivery process goes as I've never completed one of those offers.

From your standpoint, the user simply needs to enter the initial info. The advertriser is paying the CPA Networks and you for leads they can use to market to. I would say the vast majority of people who initiate e-mail/zip submits don't complete the offers all the way through. But once the advertiser has their info, they can continue to market to them.

There are other offers, for example a dating site offer. The customer gets to the page from your marketing efforts, they submit their information and now have a dating profile. It may be free, or it may eventually require them to opt-in to something or pay eventually, that depends.

    2. Not 100% clear on this question, but if you are asking what the user needs to submit, that varies. The payout to you is usually related to the ease of getting the information. As such a simple e-mail or zip code submit is a low payout, but it's fairly easy to get people to enter this information. The other end of the spectrum is a credit card submit or actual purchase. These are usually the case with free trials, etc. In the middle you have short form (1-2 pages) and long form (3-7+ pages) submits, requiring the user to enter info such as full name, dob, address, phone, answer a survey, etc.

    3. CPA really is a cost per action. So the actual offer will dictate what action is required. In some cases it's simply obtain an e-mail addresses. In others it's to obtain a 2 page form worth of info on the customer. Yet in others it's obtain a cc number, or have the user actually purchase something. It depends on the offer.

    4. The networks are paid to provide the offers. The advertiser is in charge of actually completing the deal to the customer. The networks are the ad agencies, paid to have people like us market the offers. That being said there are a lot to choose from. My favorites are Wolf Storm Media, Peerfly, MaxBounty, EWA, BlamAds, and Epic Direct. A lot of others have had good experiences with Neverblue, Copeac, Adscend Media, etc, but I've never worked with those.

    5. CPA marketing is a great method for making money online and building a business. Approach it as a business though, and know it will take a lot of long, hard work. But the more you do (DO, not just read) the more you will make and the better you will get at it. On one end, it is a numbers game, so the more campaigns you create the better. On the other end, creativity will play a big part in your success.

A lot of people expect to setup a poll or a simple landing page, drive people to that, and the money will suddenly roll in. Hard work and efficiency will make you money, creativity will make you a ton of money. Try to put your marketing hat on as much as possible, and think from your target audience's point of view.

I hope this is helpful, good luck!
    Danny
