I think I finally understand what CPA is

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what CPA is about.

Recently, I tried to find site which defined it simply, to no avail.

Well, today, I received an email from a marketer. He had a CPA product to sell, at a very low price.

What sold me was that he wrote this :

"In case you're not familiar with it, a CPA offer is where you get paid when someone enters their email address or zip code into a form at a vendor's website."

Is there a lot more to CPA than that ? Or is it a good definition of what it is basically ?

Yes, it can be confusing to explain and to understand, however it's basically selling a lead to a lead buyer. Which means the prospect does not actually have to purchase anything in order for you to make money..

The way CPA lead buyers protect themselves is that they ONLY want good leads to end up making a sale in the long run,, as long as you keep sending qualified leads to the the Lead buyer, the lead buyer will continue to pay the CPA network, and therefore you get paid..

This explains only a "zip and email submit" offers.

    Another could be:

"You will get commission when someone purchased our product through your website"

"You will get paid when someone sign-up"

Yes, that's a very small part of the CPA industry. CPA is a whoel lead based advertising model and comes in many shapes and forms and even more ways to promote the offers.

Essentially CPA marketing is about promoting CPA offers which are just lead gen forms by companies and you earn commissions when your visitor filla sout the lead gen form. Sometimes its an email submit like you suggest with a low payout of $1 or sometimes the lead is a fre trial or long form which are harder to convert, but the payout can be much higher like $20-$50.

Its a great monetization model though...some people do extremely well!

Like some people have replied, email and zip submits are only a form of CPA. The goal of CPA is always to aquire some form of information from people, by offering things that are perceived as value by the said people. It's like information bartering.

The companies that set up these CPA offers would have a set amount of money that they are willing to spend for each personal information that they acquire. This is the money that the CPA network use to pay us, the CPA Marketers.
