Should beginners use PPC?

Here's the deal. I'm getting into CPA, and I'm in a hurry to start making money. I have some money to spend, so I don't necessarily need to stick with the time consuming free marketing.

Is it a good idea to get into ppc? Can't I tread lightly and spend small amounts while testing campaigns, and then scale up the winners?

Does anyone know of a good thread / guide for beginner PPC?

thanks

PS. I'm already accepted with peerfly and affiliatecashpile.

I understand the testing process in CPA can be expensive, plan on losing in perhaps 5 different offer tests before you start that fast money making, I just read an outlook at PPC fron a PPV specialty house:

    Guide – PPC in 2010 What Works? | PPVPlaybook.com

I found Chad's Conversion Campus to be quite useful, he spends an hour+ on each major traffic sourse. He talks about using PPC mainly for initial testing.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...-can-they.html

I'm not affiliate, just enthused to find real world info close to those $1000 courses for only $47. This wso is about 6 months old, only sign of age I noticed, one recommended Facebook automator is capoot.

If you don't have a budget to play with then don't do it yet. Build one up using free traffic methods, THEN start buying traffic. I've seen too many people think they can spend $5 in testing and see results. That's simply not the case.

how much money is "enough" to realistically start investing in PPC to finally see a positive return?

I know this is all subjective, but people say to wait until you have enough... I'd like to know what enough is. $500? $1000? $2000? more? Thanks!

I would personally always spend that money on organic SEO work. PPC is good if you work for a huge company that wants immediate results and doesn't understand the value of what SEO can do.

People have lost everything doing foolish PPC campaigns. PPC should only be conducted using specific testing methods to ensure you are getting more bang for your buck.

PPC is profitable, please don't try to tell me SEO is better. Both can be used. I do SEO stuff too and just hate waiting forever for results. PPC gets instant results.

The only problem is Adwords went and screwed it up badly. Thankfully there's still other PPC engines and there's facebook ads.

PPC can certainly be profitable, and of course both can be used. However, one has to weigh the opportunity cost of PPC over SEO. Ranking #1 for a term will always be better than PPC. That's a fact. Getting #1 is the hard part though and most people don't have the time, dedication, or knowledge on how to do it properly.

I'd wait on PPC, learn how to do seo and work on your landing page ...
    learn:
    google website optimizer
    how to write good headlines
    track your conversions (tracking202)

once you've got the basics and hopefully earned some money along the way, go burn some cash on ppc

    Hi,

You're lucky to be in Peerfly. They have very, very good offers that convert in most verticals.

You said, you have some money to spend because you don't want to waste time on free marketing.

I think what you want is to taste PPC gradually and be guided at the same time in the shortest way possible.

Here are links that I can suggest:
    1. Training WSO by Mike Morgan : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...-friendly.html

    2. Training WSO by Mike Morgan : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...000-daily.html

    3. Training WSO by Kenster : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...pa-offers.html

    4. Coaching Program : developed by Senior Warriors - Kenster and PPC-Coach

So you have 4 of the best up there. Now you don't even have to waste time in trying to figure out things from thousands of WF threads. Everything packaged into professional, easy to follow steps and great time-saver with reduced trial & error costs.

    Good Luck !

Note : try PPC first, then try CPM.

PPC is great for people with a budget and at least a good understanding of the industry. If you don't know the basics or don't have capital to spend then go for some free traffic first...PPC will always be there to try once you build a budget and learn more.

Too many times I see people diving into AdWords before they even know how to build a landing page. If you don't know how to build a solid landing page and don't know the fundamentals of CPA marketing, you won't do well. No need to rush it.

PPC is so volatile and takes so much fine tuning I always recommend that noobs stay clear. There are some newbies however that are quick learners and can get the gist of things pretty quickly. As a general rule, if you are tight money wise, don't do it. But If you have around $500-$1000 to blow experimenting then go ahead. Just be warned, PPC is not for the faint of heart. Just one wrong calculation or one wrong lading page, offer etc., could cost you some serious $$$$$

For what traffic source? Adwords you need to learn WordPress and build content, whereas Facebook and PoF you can just direct-link or use a single landing page with a button or two on it.

The magic words were spoken by Jeff. I'll put it to my perspective below.

The advice below is the summary of what some Senior Warriors have said in WF. Only for those who have marketing budgets for CPA.

When we talk about PPC somehow Adwords always come to mind. There are other less expensive avenues namely: FB and 7Search. Very good learning ground, will save money and make money.

Once you've figured out the winners in PPC, then stop PPC for those winners. Optimize the successful offers to CPM ( Cost per Impression ) methods. It will become less expensive because they will get good CTR rates. CPM channels are Plenty Of Fish and FB.

Then test Adwords Banner Ads CPM, which is cheap. Maybe search some active Blog Networks and buy Banner Ad space.

Once you're confident and have enough income stream, graduate to Adwords PPC, if you wish.

          ----------------------------end ----------------------------------

Anyone looking for FREE MARKETING WAYS, should buy these 2 WSOs as guides and learn the basics so that they won't get frustrated:

          1. By Warrior Bill Platt : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...t-reviews.html

          2. By Warrior Yoel Cohen : http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...e-reviews.html

Easy to follow steps, reality, quality stuff, pretty quick to implement and see results.

That's a good point. PPC can be amazing and an amazing educational experience. It can be risky but if you mitigate the risks, then the rewards can be amazing...even for a newbie.

The reason I always say PPC isn't the best place for beginners is because most beginners don't approach it properly. They go in without testing, without tracking, and without a general grasp of how PPC works. BUT, if you can find a good PPC course, it can be a great start for newbies.

I still like to encourage newbies to try free traffic and get a good base income flowing from that, but if you have the determination and discipline to go with PPC, then go for it.

      interesting thread...

Man bro I think you should go for it many people feel its not a good start but i really think seo is harder to learn than ppc as long you are able to track your results like a mad man and join ppc-coach you will be ok. I've seen results spending like $20 -30 a day for testing it can be done man go hard and learn it all or you'll be sitting on the side line like everyone else wishing they got in it while they say its too hard.

PPC could be lucrative, but the learning curve can be very expensive. the margin are slim, that's if you found something that converts...

Anyway, you probably can't get in with the networks being so new and all...when you apply with the CPA's and ask for your experience, do you have any? how about a website?? you don't have to covered..hmmm

This is going to sound odd for some to hear.... but really what is $1,000?

If you bid high and budget low, say $20/day, you can get some decent data and practice. If you had a budget of $1000, you'd learn a lot in that time. With real world data.

I know it's tough for some to say "$1,000 isn't much", but you need to understand that when you get good at it and know how to scale a campaign that shows signs of life, you'll recoup any losses very very quickly. As long as you avoid the big loss, on a long enough time line you should be left with only Big Wins, once all the little wins/losses cancel each other out.

Oh, and this will be weird to hear on an IM forum, but if you're doing paid traffic starting out, I highly recommend you have a job. I get so many emails from people that are like "I need money in 2 months or I will run out of cash and I have a family to support, can you help me please!"

Yes I can.... get a job. Don't go trying to buy traffic when you are making emotional decisions because you can't pay rent and are about to get kicked out of your house.

In my opinion you should use PPC only if you have a budget to test campaigns, I think this what everybody try to tell you here. I mean if you track everything and you work smart I dont see why you could not succeed with PPC, at least try, and if you do not have good results you may try free traffic method to be sure to not burn all your money. That's it!

If I were to do it all over again and rewind a couple months back I wouldn't have touched PPC. I went through 500$ fast, using marketing makeover generator as my lead capture page, had terrible conversions.

Now in terms of my regular job, as a server the season is over. The place is dead, and I don't have 54 for hosting, to set up a blog or anything for that matter.

PPC I imagine is great when you established and have proven conversion and add copy, but when your just starting out you should save that money for other costs.

Besides its seems Article Marketing, Press Releases, and Forum Marketing are far stronger FREE methods to get yourself launched.

For us new guys, stay away from the thought, just because I am spending money it means I will make more money then if I did alternative methods.

Sure PPC will get faster results, but if you do not pick good, relavant, niche specific keywords, then you are just wasting money. I would learn about keyword research before you even attempt PPC and free traffic is always better than paid. I started my blog 2 months ago and I am already 299,000 on alexa with 3 PR and this is the first blog I have ever created. I would start a blog, need ideas, click my link.

I agree with you that it is important to have quality relevant keywords that properly relate to what it is that you are offering and trying to promote. There are many Keyword Suggestion tools out there and 7Search has one that will show what the current bids are on any given keyword.

"free traffic" can be a bit misleading in my opinion. Are you referring to SEO traffic? If so, it can be costly to optimize your site in order to make it appealing to the spiders and various algorithms engines use. In some cases people 1000's of dollars in order to get their selves placed in a position that will bring them positive results.

I would be glad to share some time discussing our interface and how it makes PPC advertising easy and fun for even the beginning marketers. Feel free to email me at bstanley at 7search dot com.

PPC vs SEO, an old discussion, but people always get excited defending their points of view.

SEO allowed me to build a solid income, but it didn't take too long for me to switch to PPC. Nowadays, almost all of my income comes from PPC (several platforms).

IMO, asking which is better, PPC or SEO, isn't right. This question doesn't make sense. What people have to ask is "which is better FOR ME?", exactly as the OP did.

If you have time, but are on a budget, don't try to fool yourself, you can't do well with PPC. You can buy great courses, but there are some lessons that you have to learn in the practice, and it will cost you money. So SEO is better for you. You won't get instant results, it may take a month or 2 for you to start seeing conversions, but you will build a solid income online, you just need to be patiente and keep focused.

However, if you have money and want fast results, I think that you can get started directly with PPC. Just choose one vertical and one platform and keep focused. Don't try too many different things or you will end up spending a lot of money and learning nothing. Focus, focus and focus...

So we will never find an absolute answer for this old question, simply because such answer doesn't exist. Each person is different and it's a mistake to say that there is a way that everybody should follow in order to succeed online.

      Hi,

      Judge wisely before taking actions.

      1. Some people like to take risks on their own and may learn something from it.

      2. Some people like to take risks through some guidance and learn from it.

      3. Some people don't like to take risks for many reasons.

It really depends on their unique situation, goals and direction.

Just because we're in such and such situation, doesn't mean everyone else has to be in the same boat with us.

We cannot impose anything on anyone.

I would recommend against PPC unless you have the skills AND the money for testing.

PPC can ruthlessly deplete money reserves, especially in the competitive markets.

I would start with free traffic sources, make some money, study up, then tackle PPC. That's the way to go in my opinion.

Personally I think someone new could make PPC work in a safe manner as long as they have the right mindset going into it. You can get started with a small budget, but don't go in with the intention of making a bunch of money in the process. Your goal should be to learn the PPC process, meaning proper tracking, setting up landers, optimization and conversions, etc. All the stuff you'll need just on a small scale.

You also want to get your mind right, meaning eliminating the fear of spending money on traffic. You'll see with your very own eyes how the math works. Your profits, losses, roi, etc will becoming very clear and real they will just be very tiny.

Small scale PPC reminds me of paper trading stocks except you are spending some money. There is no real way to do the equivalent of paper trading with PPC. So you'r only option is to start small.

You better of learning and losing small so when you do have the money to go big at least you'll know what your doing and have confidence to some extent.

I tried to set up a PPC campaign to promote an affiliate product. Long story short, Google has $200 of my money sitting in their pot b/c I didn't read all the "fine print".

Hopefully I will be able to use it eventually, but suffice to say I have decided the work of doing SEO to get free traffic is more worth it to me than losing money to Google.

I think that yes, it must be planned and calculated, the right keywords chosen, right text in the ad to get only the right people to click through, the landing page should be well designed etc, but come on, it's no more 1998 we're in, you can't be serious in your online business without PPC.

    Hey,

Its great to hear that you are eager to get stuck in and start making money with CPA.

Generally when using PPC traffic you will generally start off running campaigns at a loss as you test and tweak your campaigns. You wont see a profit straight away, if at all on some campaigns. When you get the right formula running for your PPC campaigns then you will make a very nice profit, but it requires money and knowledge to get to this point.

As you are just getting into CPA my personal recommendation would be to steer clear of PPC until you are more experienced. Free methods of traffic generation can be vey profitable and help you build up a good solid income so you can move over into paid traffic methods such as PPC when you have more experience and knowledge.

    Good luck

I wouldn't spend money on PPC until you've learned a LOT about it. It's one of those areas that isn't forgiving to newbies because you could be forking out a lot of money if you don't know what you're doing.

      Well said.

PPC is very effective source of targeted traffic , but If you don't know what you are doing , PPC is a little bit risky , especially for newbies.

PPC is a very powerful paid traffic source. As stated above, AdWords is no longer the ideal place to go for ppc ads, but there are a list of great ones. If you want specific advice on my top ppc traffic providers, I can give you a quick run-down per "category" if you pm me. Also, facebook ads work on a "cpc" basis, but are not considered "ppc" since they are not "search" traffic. They are social. Still an extremely powerful source, any social site. If you can target correctly, pof is great, and so is youtube if you're into videos. My recommendation is simple - if you want to get cheap traffic and have somewhat of a budget - set yourself on some PPV (pop ups, interim ads) and link up with a tool like CPVlab to closely monitor your spendings. If you can get a good and solid idea to work on PPV, you can easily transcend this idea into more specific targetting, and therefore a more specific adcopy, as you work up to PPC. Take knowledge from your ppv (demographics, working landing pages, working keywords) and then take them to ppc. Continue the breakdown necessary and then either move to other traffic sources of higher quality, or perfect and dominate your ppc search traffic.

    Hope this helps.

If you start slowly and stick to low-cost long-tail keywords that closely match your content, PPC can be very lucrative, even for the beginner.

You just have to resist the urge to target broad terms that generate massive but untargeted traffic.

Remember, you are targeting CONVERSIONS, not traffic.

Oh, also - you need to produce a quality site if you expect to be approved for AdWords.
