2010 was the first year I made enough to pay taxes on my Adsense income. My accountant seems to think that I need to figure out how much revenue was earned by people clicking on the ads on my site and then I am going to have to write off what Google took out of that revenue to come up with my income.

I thought I could just use the money adsense sent me minue expenses for runing the site and that would be good.

I'm confused here because I thought adsense didn't disclose how much they took out of each click.

Get a new accountant, google is not going to tell you that, also they don't have to, they report that on their taxes therefore you get the rest which is what you report on your earnings.

My accountant just takes the 1099 and uses that as my income. Make sure to use all the expenses you have for building your sites, purchasing domains, etc.

    1. Asking tax advice on a forum is about the worst move ever.

    2. Your accountant obviously has no idea what you do, and really he should be smart enough to know that what someone else makes has nothing to do with you, its only what you make, get a new accountant.

You are asking about taxes - and you don't have a country of residence listed.

In the U.S. we get a 1099 from google - and that is the income earned from adsense. What google gets is google's business - we pay taxes on the 1099 amount as that is the income we earned.

Is it possible you explained your adsense income in a way that totally confused the accountant?
