Email submits with surveys attached

I know nothing & haven't done anything yet. But what is this thing that advertisers do like "get a $1,000 gift certificate" participation required? You submit your email and then they have an endless survey trying to get you to sign up for multiple offers and it never ends so you'll never get "the prize"
I'm trying to be careful with these questions: How do you handle this situation? Does anything that some people do bother you ethically? The advertiser doesn't seem very ethical never awarding what they "promised". What do you do? Please don't hate me for asking.

I believe they just do it for marketing strategy. They use words that will attract any person that will be see that. You can tell to yourself that it is a effective strategy, right?

I think normally there is the prize at the end of the tunnel, but of course they normally aren't very transparent about the steps and hoops to jump through to get there.

Ethical? Do what you think is right. Every person will market differently and promote different offers based on their own personal moral and ethical values. Most business and marketing campaigns in the offline world as well have an ethical aspect, but the temptations to stray from your ethical fiber is stronger online because its less personal. SO just stay true to yourself.
