Completely Green... But willing to take the plunge

Hi everyone! Allow me to introduce myself: I am a Material Engineering undergrad and a complete newbie (but an enthusiast) of PPC. Until very recently, I had no idea what CPC/CPA/CPM were abbreviations of, but then I discovered this awesome website here and I've been snooping around.

The thing is... I can see that the field is promising, fast-paced, and challenging, and I really wanna get into it, but I'm all about measured risks. I want to know a sure-fire way how someone with ZERO KNOWLEDGE on the topic of IM can go from that point up to his/her first campaign. Being the complete ignoramus that I am, I'm studying for the Google Adwords Fundamentals Qualifications Exam.

Would you say this is a good first step? No? What else would you suggest? What then?

Thanks so much in advance guys!

  • Hey there, Welcome to warrior forum! I think you mean to say PPC instead CPC right?

PPC refer to advertisement programs that follow Pay Per Click and CPC refer to Cost Per Click and CPM is Cost Per Million, finally CPA is Cost per action.

Hi! Like I said... Very, very green... I'm still finding my way around all the acronyms and abbreviations! I plan on getting into Adwords and Microsoft adCenter. There's a lot of very, very useful information all over the internet on the topic of PPC advertising, but it's this same abundance of information that makes getting started such a daunting task!

All I'm asking is that if someone could please show me the beginning of the road and I'll do my best to take it from there. For example, is studying for the Adwords Fundamentals a smart first choice?

      Many thanks in advance!

Strange... CPM=Cost per million? The Google AdWords Fundamental exam material says CPM=Cost per thousand impressions... Does the meaning change from one site to another?

I think the first step is to read everything you can get your hands on. Participate in popular IM forums, blogs, article sites etc... There is good advice and bad advice, you will eventually figure out what sources are reliable and which aren't. Once you have a base of knowledge then start learning the specifics and experimenting.

Sounds like a plan! But if you could be so kind as to suggest for how long? I mean, how long should I be a passive participator for? A month? Two? Three? Also, what do you think of the AdWords Certification Program I am studying for. Is it worthwhile? Of is it a waste of time?

      Thanks in Advance!

Internet marketing isn't an exact science. How long you read before testing is totally up to you. Like horsestall said read up on the different kinds of marketing pick one you like the most then try it. Where to start well even though the title is a bit deceiving read through kensters series http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-networks-cpa-cpm-cpl-millionaire-makers/183445-how-cpa-millionaire-part-i-basics.html

Here's another tip- CPC (cost per click) backs out to CPA (cost per action) offers so you might as well cut out that middle man and start getting paid for each action that your traffic can drive to an offer. Seriously, banking opportunity. Best of luck!
