How Much Would You Pay For 600k Targeted Impressions?

I am going to pay to advertise one of my websites and have found a very popular website in my niche that is offering to give me 600,000 impressions for only $275. The impressions will be shown below each of the first post in a forum.

So what do you think this deal is actually worth? Good purchase?

    • I think it all depends on how well your ad converts. Do they allow split testing?

I'd research the forum membership a little bit. Where are the members from?

For example, if you're promoting something available to just USA residents, you wouldn't want to advertise in a forum where 90% of the membership is from other countries.

If the audience fits your intended target, then I think it's a good deal.

They do not allow split testing. My ads have converted well in the past on other websites.

The members are almost all from the US and are targeted to that specific niche. The forum receives a few million visitors per month and I was shown proof by Analytics reports. So I am thinking it is a very good deal.

If the traffic is highly targetted, and your offer has proven to convert very well, then it's no-brainer. Personally I prefer to pay per click, impressions kinda scares me :-), it's easier for me to work out my conversion rate per click

      Hey Brian,

If you think it's quality targeted traffic, then go for it, because that's a pretty decent CPM... However, if you can, why not test it first with fewer impressions?

Brian, Good to hear that your offer converts well. However, keep in mind that it could always convert better! There are lots of ways you can split test, even if the advertiser won't send your traffic to more than one page. One awesome one is genetify.com, which requires a little bit of tech savvy. There are others, though -- google website optimizer is one. It never hurts to always keep testing...

    Good luck!

The question is how WELL-TARGETED will the traffic be? Is it laser targeted--as in you know with full conviction that the audience is going to be interested in your site/product/service/offer?

Think of it this way. Say your site deals with after-market products for Dodge Chargers, but your advertising campaign is going to be set up to target everyone who has Dodge vehicles.

That's great and all, but what if you could just focus on those that have Dodge Chargers specifically? Which do you think is going to bring you the biggest bang for your buck?

Now of course that is just one example and a pretty broad analogy at that, but I think you get the idea.

Brian, it sounds like a great candidate for at least a one-time buy. The price quoted is only $0.46 CPM.

If this pays off, you might want to try negotiating an even lower CPM for a longer (larger) buy...

I think another pertinent point you should consider is that we don't know your niche.

You see if 1% of them convert, how much are they converting with? The green I mean. Are you talking $1 or $100 per conversion? It's not the kind of question that can be accurately answered without all the information needed. Once you do have all the information, it's purely mathematics

That's a good point. You always have to take into consideration what a conversion is worth to you. Also, whether lifetime value of the customer applies in that niche and if it does, whether or not you should take it into account. (LTV can get you in trouble.)

if you can't run a test don't touch it. You also need a lot more info that you have to make a good call on if its worth anything. What are the past click rates? Traffic Mix?

I recommend really checking the quality of traffic before but 600k for 275$ looks like a good deal

You said visitors and not impressions, right? If so, then $0.46 per thousand VISITORS is pretty damn good, depending on the niche. Some niches cost more to advertise in than others. So if your page converts decently, then this seems like a no-brainer to me.

Before proceeding I would ask the owner if you can try on a smaller scale for a limited time frame, this way ou would be able to test out the quality of traffic without commiting completely.

If successful you can then negotiate on costing.

Just out of interest what was their reasoning for not allowing split testing??

I own a page on Facebook with publishing rights with 740k members. Each post gets about 100k impressions if left up for a few days. You just need to ensure the page relates to your product otherwise it will be ignored. Even though its to so many people. Usually a post on my page gets my site about 250 - 300 hits. Hope this helps

You can try it and then see results, if it's your niche then probably it can give a good growth for your website.
