Why do you not believe that?

If you your homework and buy advertising on a website that fits your offer's demographics, there is no reason that can't happen.

Media buys is the source you can get the highest ROI on, if you chose the right website.

      Thanks

There is no reason not to believe it. In PPC, anything is possible, I invested about 100 $ in last few days and made about 1k $ from SINGLE campaign. Facebook traffic is just insane lol.

hey..you need to understand media buying first if you want to get in to it. Just putting up some banners on good traffic blogs don't mean you going to make boat load of money.

You need to test you banner ctr and conversion rate. You need to test a lot. it's best to start with ppc, test you offer, landing page ( if not direct linking). this will give you very good idea of you conversion rate and ctr. Now you are ready to buy some ad space with good confident.

If you just jump up and buy ad space, you are just going to lose money.

    hope that helps

Start with PPC or PPV and then try out media buying.

Media Buys require a higher budget and very good experience at getting a campaign profitable. Mostly you try the campaign on other traffic sources and get them over to media buying as soon as the are profitable.

But is this just to test the offer converts?

because whats the point of doing all the keyword research and split testing etc on ppc, i may aswell research websites and get some good ad space!

    One thing is for sure:
If you can't make money with ppc/ppv, you won't make money with media buys where you often buy impressions(cpm).

yes, to make sure the banner, offer and Lp converting well. you can use cpc banner ads to get the ctr and make any changes you like to get the best converting banner.
If you are going to to do direct deal with web master, imagine how many times you have to get hold of him/her to make changes to banner?? you will be paying CPM based so by the time you manage to get good feel of the banner your ad spent will be high.

CPC will be much less for testing.

End of the day people like to do things in their own way. I am just giving you my opinion how i do my media buying

    cheers

What's your budget? If it's big then go media buys, if it's moderate/lower then try cpv/ppv

That's on the lower end of a good budget to start with paid traffic. There is definitely no guarantee you will make any of that back at first. Just want you to be realistic going into this

'Media buys' can mean a lot of things from self serve ad platforms to just emailing a site and buying a banner. It's easier (IMHO) to get burned trying media buys than it is with other methods. I don't know what your background is, but I would recommend doing something where you can start slow and really make the most of your budget.

This is completely true. I believed the crap about how easy it was to go from $10 to $1,000 doing media buys too. But guess what? It's not that easy and doesn't work that way. It's good to get a realistic view of what can happen.

The best thing you can do is take your TOP performing pictures and ads from Facebook or POF. Then combine that into some different banners, and test to see which one out-performs the other.

Since you have so much data from all your Facebook campaigns, it should be a good start to give you the "edge". However, nothing is ever guaranteed.

Media Buys are big bucks. (Unless you get lucky on a growing website) PPV is obviously budgeted much better. It is pay as you go, rather than one lump sum. It's much more efficient from a testing point of view.

I agree with most comments on here. Media buys can make you lots of money but can also lose you big money...and fast if you don't know what you're doing.

When I first tried media buys, I did split testing with different banners and all and still lost quite a bit and this was only in the testing stage. Now I'm more experienced, looking back and noticing so many costly simple mistakes I did make. My advice is to really study and know media buys well before jumping into it.

I disagree with a lot of the advice here. You can start small and build it up.

With media buys, make sure you have a lot of banners to split test from the get go. Make sure you either have an ad server optimizing the campaign for you or you do it yourself quite a bit throughout the days.

I've found with media buys it's all about testing a ****load of banners, so be prepared for that.

You can get into media buys with direct site media buys. In Most cases you will need a big budget for testing, however like ppc-coach said you can start somewhere.

My point is that why waste $100 on a ppc campaign to see if the offer converts on random keywords - when im targeting sites - isnt it better to split test say 2 sites $50 each even for a few days and see if it converts? if so make a bigger payment and spin some banners to see what works best!

I would think so. But I think what people are saying is if you find a converting offer using ppc or cpv, then you can scale it with media buys. (It's never that easy but it's a good theory).

You can't beat PPV in terms of how cheap it is to test an offer.

With any traffic source it comes down to testing. Some of the posts here say if you can't make money with ppv/ppc then you can't make money with media buys...? That's a load of crap because if broken down they can be two very different things, so making the correlation between the three mediums is pointless. There are many media buying platforms that will let you start buying with a smaller budget, it just comes down to finding the right vertical you want to go after because sometimes competition will be higher which will shoot the price of the buy up. Also if you get your demographics right, you could even do private buys and negotiate pricing with the site owner. All in all it comes down to marketing 101...TEST TEST TEST
