5 Ways On How To Get Free Traffic To Your Facebook Fan Pages

It's no secret that Facebook Fan Pages are one of the preferred methods of generating traffic to offers and products and especially brands. For novice marketers who are not purchasing traffic to Facebook Fan Pages, I wanted to put a creative "how to" guide on how to get free traffic to your Facebook Fan Pages.

Here are 5 ways to generate free traffic to Facebook Fan Pages:

1. Twitter Customization - If you are incorporating Twitter along with your Facebook Fan Page marketing promotions you can easily customize the background and even add the url to your fanpage in your "Bio" box. Remember: Twitter Bio's are limited to 160 characters so keep it short and sweet.

2. Ask Your Twitter Followers To "Like" Your Page - Simple and easy. Even though you might have your Twitter background and Twitter Bio customized to include your fanpage url, some people literally have to be "hit in the face with a sledgehammer" to get your point across. The fact is, if they are following you, it's for a reason (usually, unless they are just "serial" followers") in which case, those creepo's are near worthless anyways so who cares. The ones who do care "should" be more than happy to oblige you by liking your fanpage and of course it shows up on their profile and hopefully this method pays off to where there friends see their "likes" and will join in on all the goodness you have to offer.

3. Suggest Friends And Lure "Your" Friends Into Suggesting Friends - Listen it's a dog-eat-dog world out there in Online advertising and if you're a tightwad who is looking for all the free traffic you can get your hands on then it's time to go to work here. Use the "suggest to friends" feature but use it wisely. You might piss some people off. In your closest circle of friends and family, ask them to suggest it to friends as well. This should get your Facebook Fan Page a kickstart with likes.

4. Tag Your Own Page - When posting an update on someone's Wall, tag your site using the @ sign creating a hyperlink back to your page. This works well when responding to 'friend requests' or posting an invitation to visit your page. Again, use this wisely so you don't piss the whole world off.

5. Email Signature Is A Must - With every email you send out whether it be in your personal or autoresponders you should include a link to your fanpage. Each email is a chance to get a new like. You would be surprised how well this works. You can even include a small snippet of text in your email signature but again, use this wisely and don't be overly promotional. If you want a good tip for personal emails, use WiseStamp for Firefox.

Facebook has nearly 800 million users and growing by the day. There are a ton of ways to generate free traffic to fanpages so stay tuned for the next post as I show you 5 more.

Ruck - for this, you don't promote cpa offers with your fan pages, or do you? I figured you would just promote your own products or products that actually benefit the users to keep your audience from unliking your fan pages?

I think now if you put cpa offers right on the fan page, you'll get into trouble with FB.

However, you can use aweber and their email collector app for your FB fanpage then just use the fanpage as one part of your list building funnel.

Then you can send anything via email as there's no rules or nobody stopping you.

Ryan and I use it for both ways. Do we short term it and game the system? Yes, of course. Do we promote our own products? Yes we do with our both our brands.

In our other branded niche (not marketing), we are collecting optins from Facebook along with SMS optins. Visitors to the branded site are also scooped up on 5 different sub-niche specific newsletters as well as the daily updates optin from our RSS Feed

A very good way to go about it in a more sustainable way. Facebook has and will continue to make pure advertisement pages tougher to maintain...I believe

I completely agree. In fact, this is not just a good model for people working with fan pages, but also for guys doing PPC.

The ad platforms are getting more competitive and we (affiliates) are facing problems with low margins, so capturing leads and monetizing them in the long run can be a nice alternative to improve our margins and become more competitive on ad platforms.

The asking people to get thier friends to share has always been a boon for me and my site.

People trust their friends to lead them in the right direction.

    Awesome post, Ruck!

Another way to generate free likes/traffic that works for me is this (sorry if this is obvious to a lot of people!):

Search facebook for other pages in your niche, especially popular ones with a lot of activity and tons of fans. If you want you can make a list of these pages.

*Make sure you are using facebook as your fanpage, not as yourself*. Go to all of these "competitors" fanpages and join in on the discussions, post pics to their wall, and "like" a few things. This will end up with your page name and a link back to your page for every post/like/comment. These appear right in front of people's eyes that are already interested in the same niche, so they may click on your page profile out of interest and end up liking it.

For example, say you have a fanpage about painted turtles (random example). Search facebook for all the fanpages related to turtles that you can find. You can also find some good pages that don't turn up in search by scanning the Likes on the left side of some other popular pages.

If you don't have a catchy fanpage name, I would change it to something catchy temporarily for this if you want (you can change the name of your fanpage whenever you want to and change it back, no big deal).

So for a turtle page I would change the name of my page to "Turtles Are Awesome" or "I Love Turtles". Something like that with a catchy name. You could even go the obnoxious route and change the name of your fanpage to "Click Here If You Think Turtles Are Awesome" or something like that.

This is free advertising for your page right in front of other people in your niche. Keep doing this, especially on the high traffic pages in your niche (because your comments will drop off the page fast on highly active pages), and you will see new fans start to roll in. Comment on a few every morning, it only takes a few minutes. This is the only way I've been actively growing my fanpages after I stop my paid advertising campaigns.
