School didn't approve my flyer

What do I do now? Can I pass them out on the sidewalks around school? A lot of students cross the street to eat at fast food across from school. Are sidewalks considered public property? Can I pass out flyers by the traffic light? Thanks

Hey kardesh, this is going to depend on the school and local law and on who actually owns what property, so you are probably going to have to do some asking around to your city officials to find out.

You are allowed to pass out fliers on any public property. It's under free speech, and has been defended in court many times.

If your school is a public school, what they are doing is potentially illegal.

You could post them or pass them out off campus.. did they give you any feedback on how to get them approved?

Distribute the flyers off the campus to get rid of the problem. Can't do much about the rules.

Pass them out to the kids as school let's out. They'll be off campus so it won't matter. I remember these people used to pass out mini Bibles out after I got out of school about once a year. I don't remember it ever being a problem.

Remodify it to where the school logo is somewhere in it. That'll show school pride.

They said that advertising something does not fall under freedom of speech. They don't allow commercial advertising or promotional literature. Only donations and for non-profit organizations. That kinda sucks

I got into a long conversation with a friend of mine yesterday about the value of finding a 'worthy cause' and then using that for a business.

Her mom had just spend over seven thousand dollars trying to get from SLC to St. George for the Dickens Festival to sell CDs. She ended up selling 17 CDs only, partly because the booth was in the back and the one they were directly competing with was selling 'charity for the orphans of St. George'. That booth sold a bunch.

The catch is that my friend has two autistic brothers, and her mom could have used Autism as a cause to get people to notice her, but she wants to 'do it on her own'.

If all that college allows is charities and stuff, find a local charity system and make a deal with them. "Sponsor" them. Advertise "for them" and get your name out there in conjunction with them.
