Why do CPA networks have "per sale" offers and label them CPA/CPL?

If i need to PURCHASE some ointment to get rid of my acne or grow my hair back, ie. enter credit card information and ORDER - it's NOT a CPA offer let alone a CPL (cost per lead) offer.

It's simply a web purchase and i would be the affiliate.

So..why are those offers listed as "CPA" or worse "CPL".

Even on sites like offervault or odigger, it's almost impossible to filter out real CPL offers since it seems vendors have "troubles" labeling their offers properly.

If i am looking for CPL offers...i dont want to see ANY offers where people have to enter their credit card information and have to make a purchase for a conversion to occur. I can do that w/ clickbank or on other places.

The other criticism i have..i wish that more networks would clearly state WHEN exactly offers convert.

Yes in most of the networks these cps kind of offers are not put under one separate category. But in most cases the offers which have higher payouts only requires visitor to use their cc.
Atleast 70% of offers in each network would only be on cpa/cpl basis so I don't think that it is difficult to search for offers which doesn't require visitor to buy something.

In offer description it would have been mentioned on which page offer will convert, if it is not mentioned then try to ask your AM.

The terms are used differently by everyone.

To me CPA means any Action taken that you're paid for. So if you entered your credit card to buy something, you took action, so it's CPA. If you got someone to fill in a form without entering a credit card, it's still an action so it's still CPA.

CPS, cost per sale, CPL cost per lead are just sub categories of the more generic CPA label. There are very few offers that are truely CPL. CPA networks don't have them because even things that appear to be CPL are really CPA and even CPS.

    Wow that's a lot of Cost Per's.
