Facebook Campaign Strategy

Hi All,

When you are spilt testing adverts on facebook do you group them all together under the same campaign and run them at the same time until you can see a winner or do you run them at seperate times (so as not to bid against yourself) and then make an analysis at the end?

Also how do you track? I have an offer from peerfly so I am considering a URL with &subid=facebookad1 (followed by the next ad which will be &subid=facebookad2).

Thanks in advance,
Luke

I always create one ad per campaign. I launch at least 15 campaigns all with different ad images. Get creative and very "out of the ordinary" when choosing your images. You want at least .1 ctr to get the cheap clicks. Start by spending $25 per campaign to see if you are going to be able to get the numbers you need. Once you find the image that gets you the click through rate you need, it is all gravy! Continually optimize and press forward. You will get it.

Facebook tends to have such huge demographic options that it can seem very overwhelming on how to test and optimize campaigns.

My basic rule of thumb is this. Grab your offer link, grab as many pictures as you can afford to run simultaneously, make one catchy ad copy. From there, give each Ad a name and have the SUB ID correspond to the name of that creative. Say you have 30 pictures, name each ad, ad1, ad2, ad3, and make the subids something like 'FBad' 1, 2 3, etc.

Your demographic should start relatively broad, but not too broad. Don't pick all males 20-30 that like football. Get a little more detailed than that, and start optimizing once you get creatives that get good CTR's. Check which demographics are clicking and move from there.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for your amazing help all.

One part I am still not sure of...do you run all your variations at the same time (or should we be concerened with competing against ourselves meaning higher BIDS needed).

One other thing - my ads just got slapped 'The destination of your advert or Sponsored Story either violates Facebook's Advertising Guidelines or could not be reviewed. Before resubmitting it, please visit our Help Centre for additional information and examples compliant with our Advertising Guidelines.'

I expect this may be due to it being a UK offer and the reviewers are US based. I had hoped someone as big as FB would have a way around that but I guess not.

It was a direct link, but redirected from mydomain.com/offer to the offer.

I am now thinking I could do the following:

Build a landing page for the numpties in the US to review.

Have UK users go direct to the offer.

    or

Build a landing page for FB to approve.

Post approval, change the link to my affliate link.

I am little bit unsure of LP's still, it seems its one more hurdle to gettting the user to sign up which is what I want about all. Am I looking at this the wrong way still?

What you want to do first is create an organized system to facebook campaigns. You do this by creating a “Bookmarks” folder within your Firefox toolbar.

Then, you will create a folder for every day of the week, so that you can easily submit your back-links to the top bookmarking websites regularly, without posting to the same site twice in any given day.

(This is VERY important! An organized system will allow you to get more done in less time while avoiding the risks of being flagged for posting multiple times)

So, your bookmark folders would be organized so that you have 5 individual folders (for Monday through Friday). You can create your bookmark folders from within your Firefox browser by clicking on “Bookmarks” and then selecting “Organize Bookmarks” >> “Create New Folder”.

Thanks for the answer mar99pan, but I don't understand you.

I am not doing SEO which is the only reason I would submit links to a bookmarking service.

Facebook is about paid ads. I don't believe bookmarking has much value for an FB campaign at all, if any.

There are some simple rules(I may say) that me and many others follow:
    1. Know your offer demographics(you can get this from your AM or quantcast, google...)
    2. Think of some angles(your AM can suggest some)
    3. Grab your images(the number depends on your testing budget)
    4. Use prosper202 to set-up your tracking links and link to offer preview first(so you won't have problems if the facebook guys who review your ad are from Ireland)
    5. Put your ads up, pause the campaigns
    6. After your ads are approved, change the links to the real offer and resume campaign
    7. Test, test, test different demos, ad images, ad text/headlines to get higher CTR and cheaper clicks

But dont complain if they ban your account for changing directs once approved. I think they soon show you the ban hammer personally
