How to Monetize My Site

Hi WF,

I have a site with a super targeted, niche sport, fan base. Currently over 110k page views a month (Google Analytics) with 13k uniques per month. These numbers are set to grow as I am promoting the site,

I have adsense on the site, but only get between $0-$2 / day at most (maybe $4-$5 if there is an event). Are there any CPM networks that accepts publishers with 100k page views a month, I don't mind popunders, as long as I can control the frequency.

I also just started a forum about 3 weeks ago, and I am holding steady at a rate of near 75k page views a month, so this information will come in handy when the forum grows.

Thanks.

If I were you, I'd start by looking at the ads and offers others are displaying on your site through Adsense, and start off by trying similar things.

Yes you better start promoting some offers from a network. As you already have an established site, it will not be hard to get accepted.

You can do more than Adsense. Check some offers, or perhaps even promote your own product. Not knowing exactly what your site is doesn't help me much, but I'm sure there is something you can create and promote for a small price and get it moving on that site.

On the otherhand, Adsense can do well for it if you do some more analysis on where you should put the ads. I've learned that with Adsense, location seems to be everything.

Although CPM could earn you a few dollars, I think the best revenue source would be an affiliate program offering sports related products.

      Thanks for the info dudes.

So my site doesn't actually have any original content, it's a popurls.com inspired site that just sources RSS feeds from niche sport blogs, into one location, giving me very loyal users who prefer to use my site to read headlines, instead of checking 5-10 other sites.

I'll look into CPA offers, but amazon affiliate banners never resulted in any sales.

Hello MassivePassive. Have you tried selling ad space? You've got a steady stream of targeted traffic which is desirable to advertisers in your niche.

I actually have tried selling ad space, by contacting online retailers for equipment for my specific sport. One of them was paying me $125 /mo for roughly 80,000 impressions. I am on pace to hit 95k impressions this month. I am going to renegotiate and bump up the CPM a bit as well. Hope to get $250-$300 for the banner ad.

CPA offers are hard to promote for my case. I don't have any posts, it's simply a popurls.com inspired site, it sources RSS feeds from other blogs/sites into one page.

I haven't had any luck with CPA banners. CPA works better when you can write a blog post and direct attention to the product itself, IMO.

Affiliate offers that are targeted to your site audience. Also, if you are not building a list and setting up a sales funnel, you are leaving a lot of money on the table. Build that list, when they opt-in (for double optins) present them with offer walls and continue to mail them relevant offers and provide value to keep them happy. That will make you more money and build a real asset.

I would advise on CPA or CPM models, which would both work beautifully with your amount of traffic.
You should try other alternatives to Adsense if the profits are not increasing. There are many options out there. You just have to focus on an ad platform that can do optimization, target your traffic and provide you with relevant ads (something related to sports or that would interest your readers)
I myself am a project manager for an ad platform called AdsGadget and this is one of the things to which we give major attention: optimization.
It's key to profiting from your site. Give your readers something of value, not flashy banners that will drive them away immediately.

    Good luck!

I also have a niche sports-related website (mine is an online sports related game) which is very young (a month and a half) but I'm steadily getting more views, I should have between 80k and 100k views per month easy.

Someone up there mentioned 'finding sports-related CPA offers' - can someone elaborate? How do I go about finding these offers? I'm pretty much a newbie at advertising, I'm a web developer and this is a side-project for me.

My business model is based on selling in-game products, and I have signed up for an online bookmaker's affiliate program (which hasn't yielded anything yet), but I think I could make some decent money with the right ad space management so any input is appreciated.

It would definitely help to find sport specific CPA offers, but you can also earn a lot with rev share models through ad platforms. Regardless of your niche.

I also think CPA would be the way to go. Try content locking your most popular page and see how you do. If it works out, lock another page and progressive lock more.
