Getting $0.00 clicks on Facebook Ads (Part 2)

So, from my previous post we know that getting $0.00 from Facebook requires the following two things...

HIGH CTR & HIGH VOLUME

And we know how to get a high CTR, and a high volume. However, we don't necessarily know how to get both.

Let me explain.

We can use a really cool eye popping and intriguing image to garner a great CTR.

And we can broaden our targeting so we can get lots of volume.

BUT, when we "broaden" our targeting, our CTR drops (because people will be less likely to be interested in our ads).

Okay, so what do we do?

Simple. We use a little trick I call "getting the cream of the traffic".

Here's a statement that stands true 95% of the time when you are advertising (regardless of your platform): Quality traffic costs more

There are 101 reasons to back this claim up, one of them being common sense, so I'm not going to try and sell the fact that the statement above makes sense.

Now that you know this, what we want to do is get our ads in front of QUALITY traffic. This way we get MORE clicks and a HIGHER CTR.

But how do we get quality traffic if our targeting is broad? (a.k.a getting the cream of the traffic)

We do the following 2 things...

Thing #1: Bid high!

I can't tell you how many marketers try and get $0.00 clicks by bidding at half of the Facebook suggested bid. I don't know if that worked before, but I'll tell you one thing... it definitely doesn't work now.

Here's is a simple formula I like to follow. Bid about 2 cents under the Facebook suggested bid cap. So if Facebook is telling you to bid from $0.50 - $1.00, go ahead and place your bid at $0.98.

There are lots of other bidding practices that you can put to work for you in getting quality traffic, but I'm not going to name them all here. The "2 cent under the bid cap" will have to do today.

When doing this, I ask of you one thing... don't be a wuss. Most people don't bother bidding high because they are scared of paying premium. Seriously, if you want to hit that $0.00 you'll have to cough up some inner bravery and tell Facebook you're boss.

Thing #2: Send traffic to a Facebook Page

Before you piss your pants, listen to me for a sec.

I have always hated Facebook. The main reason? They love it when you send traffic to a Facebook Page/App.

Well back in the day, I always thought it to be "uncool" to build a business via a fan page. The main reason for this was that Facebook would be in control of my business. I couldn't take that, I wanted to be in control.

Guess what, nowadays I send 90% of my traffic to a page. Why? Facebook allows you to send traffic to a page tab. Why does that matter? Well you have full control over that page tab.

Want to know how you can use a page tab to send a visitor to ANY URL? Read this post.

Okay, now that you can send traffic to any URL you want via a page tab, here's how sending traffic to a Facebook page will help you achieve the infamous $0.00 click.

Facebook shows ads linking to pages to QUALITY users.

Without a doubt, Facebook is smart. Quality users garner a higher CTR right? Well if the might FB can keep these quality users on their websites for as long as possible, they make lots of $$$

Brilliant.

So lets make FB happy (and our bank balance happy) by sending traffic to a Facebook page. We will get more traffic, quality traffic, and random viral traffic from people clicking on the "like" link on ever ad.

Oh, and for some weird reason, there is some outside force that practically tells Facebook to give us cheaper clicks for the sole reason of sending traffic to a Facebook Page. I have no idea what this outside force is, but I tell you , I am not crazy, this outside force exists.

So, with the basic strategies outlined in part 1 of this post, combined with the 2 things I've said here, you should be able to get $0.00 clicks, or damn close at least.

    Hi,

    Thing #1: Bid high!
Bid high = Better ads placement => Better CTR => Lower CPC?

At the moment, I'm using the lower suggest bid of facebook.
    Example: $0.50 to $1.00

I bid it for $0.50. Will that really harm my CTR? And usually what is the budget you send for your new campaign to test out per day?

    Thanks

Jacob. I actually purchased your WSO 'Facebook Juggernaut'.

I have done rather well with creating some kick butt facebook ads with what I believe to be rather good CTR (0.47-0.58%). While I hope to continue to improve, I have one MASSIVE problem that no one seems to address. I achieve that ~0.5% CTR when using CPC or optimized CPM method, but obviously Facebook doesn't drop my bid range down as low as switching to CPM would allow me to get. If I were to switch to CPM and bid in the suggested bid range there (holding my CTR steady) I would be able to pay 1/7th the price, even if I bid above the outer limit of the range.

MY PROBLEM: When switching to CPM I expect my CTR to drop because Facebook isn't encouraged to give me top placement anymore. BUT I am getting absolutely HOSED. My exact ads that get me 0.5% CTR on CPC or optimized CPM, when switched to CPM drop to a CTR of 0.02% or lower. How do you control this so that your CTR doesn't get destroyed when switching to CPM?

As a quick review of Jacob's 'Facebook Juggernaut' for others: If you know Facebook ads pretty decently his guides won't be that useful, but the script provided with the WSO and a few tid bits of knowledge and ideas shared throughout make it completely worth the +/- $10 that it cost.... if you are new to Facebook ads, it would be EXCELLENT for you. So congrats on a good product Jacob.

I've actually purchased it as well, and I gotta say the course is highly motivating for me. The difference being I did NOT find it all that helpful in terms of Facebook ads. I find myself doing 3X times the research in order to find out how I can build quality FB ads without getting my wallet devoured in the process. FB Juggernaut is an excellent guide, I just need help building ads that will get clicks.

Edit: Just to clarify: I've learned so far that you have to have an eye catching photo, and a catchy ad title. To me, though, that's like someone saying "All you have to do to be a good author, is write a good story." That really doesn't improve my writing skills much or offer anything on *how* to write a good story. If anyone knows where I can find a breakdown on writing catchy ads, please PM me. Thanks.

That is exactly how I felt. The WSO PDFs were just screenshots of his posts here on the warriorforum. His videos were original content but they were more for his script that I didn't even intend to buy. Through support he has told me that he will be coming out with more PDFs in the next week that will help further but we will just have to wait and see.

I'm able to get fans (meaning clicks and then those clicks actually converting to a 'like') for 4 or 5 cents each... pretty damn good, but that isn't buy-specific so we'll just see how it converts into sales down the road. Facebook advertising is definitely getting a lot more competitive and anyone I have seen that says they are getting $0.01 clicks can't show me recent screenshots because it just isn't possible anymore. Facebook killed CPM for optimized CPM and effectively closed that little loop-hole that marketers were exploiting. Wish I would have gotten into Facebook advertising a year ago, I would have made a killing with what I know now.

As far as Jacob's training goes, I still find it to be on the more basic level, worth buying if you don't have a lot of experience in this but not as advanced as he makes it out to be.... that's all internet marketers if you ask me.

Yeah, definitely not many people getting 1 cent clicks recently. But getting clicks as low as 3 cents is still very much attainable.

Its all about looking into how long you will be running the campaign. There is no reason to work an entire week to get $0.05 clicks just so you run that campaign only 1 or 2 days more.

As for the the training, yes this is very basic. I am definitely not saying it is advanced at all. However as for the 'turning clicks into fans' thing, I actually link to a post where I talk about how you can send visitors to fan pages but send them to any website at the same time.

Don't know about you, but that is pretty advanced

Thanks for sharing these tips with us! Now I'm going to see if this ACTUALLY works.

a tip I've heard before is if you get a really small niche group of users to advertise to, super targeted.. let's say 10,000 users with lots of common interests.

Then you set your advertising to pay per 1000 impressions and do it for a couple of weeks. They'll keep seeing your ad and if it interests them and the ad grabs their attention enough, they'll click and see what the fuss is all about! That's one way of getting a high CTR

No, you can get an SSL from anywhere as long as it is a stand-alone SSL (not a shared-SSL).

Also getting a stand-alone SSL is generally more work as you or your tech guy has to install it on your server manually (which kinda sucks).

So I would suggest finding something cheap from GoDaddy, but other than that you will be paying about $30/year on low-end SSLs (which is actually pretty cheap).

As for my opt-in rate, I have one which is at about %23. Note that I haven't gone full throttle $0.00 click on this. I'm not running a lot of volume on the said opt-in campaign (which means more targeted traffic ).
