3 Tips on running a successful Facebook CPC/CPM campaign.

Hello Warriors,

Today I would like to share with you a few tips about running a successful Facebook CPC/CPM campaign.

First, for promoting CPA/CPL offers on Facebook, I would suggest you pick the offer that has the following features:

- Free Sign Up
- Easy to finish
- No Email Confirmation Required
- No Credit Card Number Required

Second, there are 3 types of offers that are working great for Facebook.

- Game Offer
- Dating Offer
- Mobile Offer

Third, I will suggest you start with international offers; they are much cheaper than US offers.

Finally, if your ad CTR is looking great (over 0.1%), you can decrease your bids gradually by $0.02 to $0.03 every 2 hours until Facebook gives you low impressions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Marcus

I think Gaming offers convert probably the best on FaceBook. Simply, people are the to have fun and not to buy. So, gaming offers are much likely possible to convert better than any other offer.

    Keep that in mind!

Dating has been good to me.

So has a lot of niches. Honestly, I feel you can get almost anything to work. Facebook is such a large demographic, and with right targeting you can go a long way.

But when starting off, I defiantly agree keep it simple.

Facebook is very serious about their ads especially in English!
If your Ads images are little bit sexy, you won't be get approved sometimes.

So personally, I think there are not too many dating offer can be chose. But do have some offer perform very well on Facebook.

Do you know excellent dating websites that really pay affiliates? I've read a lot of stories about dating affiliates NOT getting paid. So I decided to promote Clickbank for now. But I'm really interested promoting dating offers if I have the assurance that they'll pay me.

I do like your approach, but it has 1 MAJOR flaw: it's not lucrative!

Last time I checked, dating, gaming and mobile CPAs offer a few bucks per lead or signup. That's not really ideal and you won't hit the big time this way. A few years ago I woulda been like "yeah this is awesome, cheap traffic via facebook, lots of opportunities and the offers pay nicely".

Today I would consider this small-fry. Why? Because you can invest the EXACT SAME amount of effort into higher paying offers ... and get paid 10x more! You NEED to start thinking big or you will forever be small and work that crappy 9-5 job you hate.

My advice: Go into CPA markets that pay a lot more per lead or signup. If you really want to stick to facebook, AT LEAST venture into debt management. These leads pay $30-70 bucks per lead/enquiry ... massive demographics and you will make a lot more money compared to your gaming, dating and mobile offers.

Once you've tried it you will never go back. I know I didn't

    Best,

Anything finance related has a high entery fee. You will need a way larger investment to break into anything finance related. It's true that dating and Gaming pay a lot less but they are way safer for the newbies.

Nevertheless, I agree that after some success, a transition to high payout niches is probabaly a smart move

^ to above - You can cloak. :>

Facebook reviewers will see the "clean" offer, while you're promoting a better performing one (But of course don't start promoting extreme adult offers, once you get users start reporting you then your screwed)

But it's definitely easier to start with lower payout offers, logic is simple, the lower your offer payout is, the less testing budget you'll need.

HOWEVER, i have one stubborn campaign with just a $2 payout, i tested with $2700 to finally find a profit. To do this, you MUST make sure your demo is huge (at least 2 mil) or else you're just gonna burn out your demo just when you hit profit, which, sucks.

    Great tips though marcus!

iframe is a no no in facebook. of course you use a landing page, and then with a cloaker, and obviously, the call to action link of your "fake" page, which you will show to facebook reviewers go to the "clean" dating offer, and the link on your "real" page, which you will show to the rest of the world, goes to your best performing offer..

Yeah FB doesn't like peerfly or maxbounty, or redirects of those links either, for those you will definitely need a landing page, even just a simple one.

good tips for the noobs (like myself) marcus, thanks.

by gaming offers you mean video games & not casino/gambling offers right?

Guys, I'm sorry for the silly questions. I am getting my feet wet with this now. I have tried ads for 3 different CB products and all of them have been rejected. If I leave the copy and creative the same but point it to an Facebook page, boom, approved. If I send it to the affiliate URL, not approved every time. So far, it doesn't matter what CB products I choose, all of them are not approved.
My thought was to use a domain and forward that to the CB affiliate URL. It looks like some of you are suggesting something similar. Can someone explain the best way to do this? I don't mind doing the work and am not looking for the easy way out. I keep running into brick wall after brick wall and wanted to find a reliable way over this hurdle.

i was all the night reading and asking some friends and i learn this :

when you promote a product on facebook with the direct link you must do it via a Application Widgets .
some rules from the Promotional Guidelines :

      - Promotions on Facebook must include the following: a. A complete release of Facebook by each entrant or participant.
      b. Acknowledgment that the promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook.
      c. Disclosure that the participant is providing information to [disclose recipient(s) of information] and not to Facebook.
      - You must not condition registration or entry upon the user taking any action using any Facebook features or functionality other than liking a Page, checking in to a Place, or connecting to your app. For example, you must not condition registration or entry upon the user liking a Wall post, or commenting or uploading a photo on a Wall.
      - You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotion’s registration or entry mechanism. For example, the act of liking a Page or checking in to a Place cannot automatically register or enter a promotion participant.
      v. You must not use Facebook features or functionality, such as the Like button, as a voting mechanism for a promotion.
      - You must not notify winners through Facebook, such as through Facebook messages, chat, or posts on profiles (timelines) or Pages.
      - Definitions:
      a. By “administration” we mean the operation of any element of the promotion, such as collecting entries, conducting a drawing, judging entries, or notifying winners.
      b. By “communication” we mean promoting, advertising or referencing a promotion in any way on Facebook, e.g., in ads, on a Page, or in a Wall post.

and you can promote the Fan Page then , But you cannot use a promotional title to your page as
Get a free Iphone .. you page and app will be BANNED

so now i'm trying with article Marketing i will try it and let you know the results , i will share the experience here

Yes, I did! At that I focused on dating offer.
I used many " sexy girl " as my image,
    An then I got banned.

The story is telling you, You need to check your email,
    Facebook is a good company,
it won't ban you without reason,
they will send you few warning letter if you violate their rules.

And upload some image that is related to the offer,
and don't upload some sexy pictures.

I wonder Is that all Facebook guys are gay?
    Just kidding!

Hey Milker, i wanted to figure out a way to possibly get fb ads coupon for fb ads account...had a few questions about it tho..

      - Could i use multiple coupons on a single fb ads account..
(eg. could i redeem 3 fb coupons on my personal fb ads account, 1st coupon worth $50, second worth $25, and so on..?):confused:

      - Can you or anyone forward me to people who got fb ads coupons, prolly those guys who can provide multiple coupons that can be used on "1 fb ads account" and that does not require the fb ads account to be new (new meaning 14 days old account).:confused:

      * If you are a fb ads coupon supplier or got bulk fb ads coupon, hit me up for a JV..

        Hello, slowpoison.
You can only use 2 coupons in one account. First coupon is $50 for new account. Second coupon is $30/$35 for old account.

Great information MilkerFocus, One thing new publishers do not take into consideration is international traffic. I've planned out successful campaign after campaign for some of my affiliates that all revolve around international traffic.

One thing I've learned about int traffic is it can be super cheap on a CPC scale down to .01 cent per click depending on the ad network. So when your paying .01 cent per click and your EPC's are .08 - .12 ... All that's left to do is scale scale scale

    Cheers mate

      Cheers mate

Testing out a variety of images and different copy is also important to make sure you can test and determine which ads are performing better.

Pictures of hot chicks tend to get a higher click ratio but depending on the setup you could just end up with a bunch of horny guys clicking your link then doing nothing.

Hot chicks mostly can generate more click, but you need to avoid too sexy. It's becasue Facebook don't love it. Mostly, the ad will not get approved.

This is a great thread, thank you.

I wanted to ask you about your squeeze page. Right now I'm running a health campaign on Facebook and getting a 10% conversion on my squeeze page.

In your experience, what's a good enough conversion rate before you take that squeeze page and scale to other traffic sources?

I already answer this question in your thread. you should keep running it. At the same time, invest more time to learn other traffic source.

Hey Milker, i need some quick tips when testing Facebook ads..

    - I am using the CPC Model..
    - I have 10 ads with same title, body and 10 different images ( for starters )
    - I selected only 1 interest keyword to target - fb shows estimated reach around 120,253.

    - So my only question is do i place all my 10 ads in one campaign or make separate campaigns for each ad ??

So far, it's great. But I suggest you narrow down your target audience, 10,000 to 25,000 will be best. You need to make sure your audience is targeted.

Mostly, you need to focus the Impressions, if the the ads already be sent 5000 impressions, and your CTR is over 0.1%. That's perfect.

First of thanks Marcus for helping me out here...

      - Taking your advice, i now have a new campaign with 1 ad & over 30+ interests on 1 fb ad & is reaching around 35k or so overall & these are again super like laser targeted audiences, so here is where my confusion lies...

      - Should i make lets say 10 ads in one campaign with the only difference being the image..
      OR
      - Should i make 1 ad each on 30+ different campaigns..:confused::confused::confused:

You can know the answer only by testing.
You should be patient, step by step.
You need to your purpose before you start testing.

For example, If you want to test image,
You could create 10 to 20 ads by using same title and body,
        but different images.

Sometimes, little bit change, big different. as long as you know
your targeted audience more, everything will be easy.

Make 30 campaigns each with a different image, but same title and same text.

            Submit ads.

Wait for impressions. You can get higher impressions quickly if you bid on the higher end of the suggested bid facebook gives you.

At about 5000 impressions, kill any campaign that is converting at less than 0.05%.

With the left over winners, test them again by changing something else. Like the title. And then test the text.

Should have a small handful of winners, hopefully converting at 0.3 or greater.

Then just scale up. Target a larger audience.

First of i'd like to thank you JL8,

1> I can get almost any campaign approved..(I've worked on fb for over 3+ yrs, i have done every technique imaginable when it comes to IM on fb, excluding FB ADS ONLY).
2> I can get a low CPC and a low CPM, with a few adjustments

The thing now is i don't mind making 30+ campaigns or let em be a 100 you know (i like hardwork )..but when i target 1 of these 30+ precise interests individually and make a separate campaign(like you said)...somehow fb doesn't allow me to!! it says...the interest i have chosen has less than 20 users to target, hence fb does not allow me to make a campaign..however these people are highly targeted..

So is there like a restriction with picking or choosing interests.. for eg..like an interest should have over a 100 users compulsory and only then would fb allow you to use that particular keyword or something..know what i mean...

              any inputs on this warriors..

    Hi Milker,

I'm Andre Khrisna, an indie game producer who is also IM fans from Indonesia.

I plan to promote my iOS game (with $2.99 price tag) with Facebook ads.
My target is: 15-30 years old male/female who reside in 10 countries: Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, France, and Russia. I want to limit them just who have iOS devices: iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad. And because my game is in tower defense/strategy genre and it's a little bit harder than same type game, i want to add #app store (iOS), #tower defense, #strategy game, and #hardcore gamer.

Then i got 600K+ potential viewers.

I wonder if i should go with CPM or CPC because the CPC is way too high for my budget.
Need your tips and suggestion here...

    Thanks!

First of all, I will suggest you separate your audience. which means you should create a ad only target to Singapore.create a ad only target to Hong Kong...

You can't just combine them together. It's hard for you to analysis your data.

actually, you can decrease your CPC bids once your CTR is good. Let's said, If your bid is $0.8, you have potential to decrease it to be $0.4.

Your purpose will be focus on increasing your CTR.

For CPM, yes, it's cheaper. but in this system, one user will see your ads many time becasue facebook want to make more money.

There both have good and bad, you should test it by yourself.

BTW, in CPM, if your CTR is over 0.08%, it's great. for CPC, it should be around 0.1%.

      Hope this helps,
      Marcus

    Good tips, Marcus!

This is an easy start with FB, the best for people who don't have a lot of experience and are looking to learn the basics of social PPC.

Of course, in order to make the campaigns profitable it's necessary to think smart. Creativity is always the key to find good approaches and create effective ads that convert.

Besides choosing the right offers and niches it's also important to test different angles, create effective ads and control the main metrics of your campaign (CTR, CP and EPC).

just make sure you target to the right audience.

What I mean is, you cannot just direct link to any offer from a facebook ad, you will not get your ads approved this way. And sending them straight to a squeeze page is a no no too.

So what landing pages work best for you?

Good advice. Although once you're more experienced, you'll want to deal with cloaking some higher payout offers. Tough to find really great ROI's with leadgen. Also, an alternative to decreasing bids gradually that saves me a ton of time, duplicate your campaigns & use different bids on each campaign until you find the sweet spot.
