VPS specs and Prosper202

I'm trying to decide on a VPS package for Prosper202. I'm using shared hosting right now, and I shouldn't be.

I'm thinking an entry level VPS package should be fine, but I'm looking for feedback.

I've decided on servint.net for managed VPS hosting. Is there any reason I should go beyond their.basic package?

Thanks!

There is a reason and that is Beyond VPS are faster in redirects also they do specialize in providing Hosting for Tracking solutions so in case you run into some problem you can open a ticket and they will fix all problems for you about packages check this out http://beyondhosting.net/Virtual-Pri...x-VPS-Hosting/

I have seen beyond come highly recommended from many people. Their pricing doesn't work for me yet, but I will keep them in mind.

You linked to a place that simply promotes Beyond hosting and a coupon code.

I'm looking for a bit of technical detail as to the specs for a VPS that should result is accurate tracking and quick redirects.

For example, should a single core VPS node with 768mb ram and 60gb storage be enough for Prosper202 to perform well?

    Thanks

Really it depends on the amount of traffic you plan on running through it.. to start an entry level plan should be ok (depending on the provider)

What is your budget? I wouldn't recommend running it shared hosting, especially if the web host claims "unlimited". It can be run on any VPS, not just theirs. It appears Beyond uses it as a marketing point.

I'm running it shared now on BlueHost and I'm losing too many clicks. I like BlueHost, but not for Prosper202.

I'm thinking I should be able to get away at $50 to $60 for a basic VPS package.

Servint.net has an offer in my price range, and I've seen a couple of Warriors speak highly of them.

I only have a few active campaigns running through Prosper202. My hope is that I can scale this up to 30 campaigns or so without an expensive VPS package.

There's plenty of quality providers in that price range. I'd say start out with 1GB RAM though. You're looking for a cPanel license as well correct? Looking for managed or self managed?

are you losing clicks because of the traffic of because of Prosper? PPV Traffic?

I'm thinking I should go with managed. I'm an ex-IT consultant, but my skills are rusty, and my certifications were in Windows NT and Windows 95.

But don't jump to conclusions! I'm only 36.

Yes, cPanel and I think LightSpeed instead of Apache.

A managed VPS w/ LiteSpeed is going to push you into the $60-$70+ range. I highly recommend LiteSpeed though. We run LiteSpeed on all of our shared & reseller servers & it's 20 times better than Apache...it works great.

Most of our customers noticed an immediate performance increase from just LiteSpeed alone.

A managed VPS is not necessary. I am sure Beyond has great service, but their prices are also high in my personal opinion.

Also, with any server your PHP handler can make a difference. For example, SuPHP is often the default for security reasons but is not the quickest. This can easily be changed.

Search around, you will find a good deal!

The OP stated Windows skills in the last post, which leads me to believe a managed VPS would be required.

OP - If you want to "toy around" with an unmanaged VPS, than that's the route to go. If these sites are money making sites, and you don't feel comfortable managing a linux server, you need a managed VPS OR hire a server admin.

If the OP says his skills are a bit rusty, imo telling him to get an unmanaged server is kind of setting him up for failure in the event something goes wrong.

Servint has managed VPS for $50/mo and a Litespeed VPS license is $14/mo. I don't know about the PHP handler, but my understanding is that PHP performance improves substantially with Litespeed over Apache, yes?

You should also check out Wiredtree for a managed VPS 1GB RAM with cPanel for $49/month and you can add Litespeed for an extra $12/month.

  • As you (and a lot of other people have noticed) shared hosting is usually a very bad option for hosting Prosper202.

VPS or Dedicated is the recommend option for multiple reasons.

At this point the only hosting company we have partnered with to provide Prosper202 hosting is BeyondHosting.

Disclaimer: Tracking202 is also an affiliate of BeyondHosting, commissions from hosting with them via our affiliate links help to pay bills, server expenses, and keep Prosper202 updated and free for all of you.

I'm 100% sure if you are just comparing on price you will find lot's of of VPS and dedicated solutions that are cheaper.

But at this point I'd say they are the only Hosting company with extensive technical knowledge of Prosper202 from a hosting point of view. So when you need something fixed quickly, chances a very high that they can get it fixed quickly. The current alternative is to fix it yourself, post in forums, or pay $250 an hour for support directly from me.

If you want to go with you own hosting I'd say look into BeyondHosting. But there's an even better option that not everyone knows about yet.

That's because it's been in a extended pre-launch. But we also have a paid highly scalable cloud based solution. I'll tell you now that it's a no brainer for almost every current Prosper202 user.

It's the most updated version of Prosper202, there's no need to install anything which means all you need to know how to do is market. Upgrades are pushed out to everyone instantly, so you always have the latest and greatest everything. Plus the most important part of it all is that it comes with our proprietary BlazerCache Optimized Redirect Technology enabled. Which means redirects are lightning fast. You can check out benchmarks here: Benchmarking Our New BlazerCache Optimized Redirect Technology

To wrap things up here's my view of your options to consider and take in descending order

    1. Our new hosting Tracking202
    2. BeyondHosting: VPS or dedicated
    3. VPS or dedicated with another host
    4. Don't run any campaigns
    5. Shared hosting

I know you've probably already picked a VPS by now, but one key feature to look for is a SSD aka Solid State Drive.

It is a solid disk drive, which operates extremely fast compared to standard multi-piece drives.

Could you please elaborate on the losing clicks part - why would this happen?

SSD read write at a rate of between 200MB to 500MB per second. A standard SATA drive will be anywhere between 50MB to 120MB per second. Obviously the exact spec. depends on the make and model but there is a clear speed advantage for SSD.

The faster data can be read and written the faster the server can process requests which results in greater performance. If you think when a user hits a typical web site this will result in log files being written, session file created, database records written, etc. The faster you can write that information the better.

They operate a TON faster, and not all VPSes have them.

I just got a SSD in my new MacBook, things load so much faster. I could never go back!
