Sub ID Tracking With a Review Page

2 replies
So, if I have a PPC campaign that drives to a review landing page with 3 CPA offers, how can I track keyword conversions as a sub id?

Meaning, if I add the keyword sub id to the destination URL, will it be tracked all the way through to conversion regardless of the offer they click on? How do I set this up?

    Hey Susan,

    That is actually a pretty easy setup in Google. What you do is add a code your destination URL like ?kw={keyword}

    Example:

    yoursite.com/landingpage.html?kw={keyword}

    That will add the actual keyword searched for to the variable 'kw' and carry it to your landing page.

    Now on your landing page you need to add some code above the <head> tag in your html source code"

    <?php
    $subid = $_GET['kw'];
    ?>

    Then you can add the keyword to your subid in your affiliate links by using this code:
    <?php echo "$subid"; ?>

    Now that works if you're using raw affiliate links on your review page.

    Here is a link where we went quite extensively into using code such as above for tracking, in that case it was articles, but it works the same way.

    There is quite a bit of info and the good stuff comes further into the post.

    You can also use free software like Tracking202 (service) or Prosper202 (self-hosted) which will allow you to track your keywords with sharing them with the affiliate networks and can cloak all your data as well.

    They track other stats like landing page click-through-rate (CTR) too.

    They track by adding a subid automatically to your affiliate link when you setup your campaigns, you create a tracking link and use that for your destination URL in your PPC campaigns.

    There is a cloaked redirect you use in place of your affiliate link that looks nice for your visitors.

    All in all pretty good software that will take care of your tracking needs without diddling with code or sharing your keywords with the affiliate networks.

    I hope this helps.

    If you have any questions just ask.

    Thanks,

    Derek
