Phantom/Ghost clicks on FB Ads?

I did happen to read and come across a few posts talking about these bot/fake/phantom/ghost clicks along with legit clicks on fb ads..

So as a small test, i wanted to see if i get the same number of clicks on my shortened bit.ly offer url & that showed up on fb ads manager...nothing complicated here i am NOT using prosper202 or any other method of tracking this is just an offer link which was shortened with bit.ly and i was trying to compare the stats live on bit.ly. We all know bit.ly does a great job at tracking live visitors..

My tracking shows a few clicks missing..
Eg: fb ad manager shows 20 clicks and bit.ly tracker shows 8 clicks lol, so were these 12 clicks bots? If they are i am wondering how can a campaign be profitable..

Do you have any similar experience with fb ads or have any inputs, I'd be glad to hear em
#ad networks (cpm/cpl, display) #ads #clicks #fb ads #phantom #phantom or ghost

  • You read my mind!!!!

Yea, I have had the same thing happen to me. I got 10 clicks on fb and showed 6 clicks on my network...That means that my CPC is pretty much doubled...How can anyone make money like this?

    • hmmm ok..thanks for your input...anyone else who has done some similar tests or can shed some light on phantom clicks for fb ads..

Is it wise to use prosper202, i don't mind testing it again using prosper but, since bit.ly showed the variance in stats i am wondering..using prosper it would do the same wont it ?
  • i had the same problem, something is fishy !

    • thanks for your response pfoaf..

guys any help will be highly appreciated..is phantom clicks an issue for fb & there no 2 ways BUT to accept it that yeah phantom clicks DO exist....

      - tbh i am okay accepting the fact that phantom clicks exist on fb..i just want to ensure i am not doing anything wrong on my end..

  • I've noticed missing clicks, but I'm relatively disorganized with my tracking, so I determined it could be my own error.

I have given up on Facebook ads anyway, and I find better bang for my buck elsewhere.

Others swear by it though, so who the hell knows.

    • ok thanks Sarevok...so we got around 3 people so far who have seen click fraud (phantom clicks) lol on fb ads and more suggestions warriors..
  • Use prosper202 and track the Ips, times and referrers to give you a better idea. Without proper tracking you won't know.

  • Facebook has done this to me a few times. But make sure you setup your tracking like Chris said.

    • Hey thanks appreciate the find, i did read this one earlier tbh..actually i really don't mind if fb has phantom clicks etc..cause i can still make a profitable campaign..just wanna see if i am the only one or some more people noticed this
  • Profitable campaigns on FB is possible and yes even despite the existance of phantom clicks.

Although it isn't fair for people like us, we don't have to get bent out of shape. Just play the game by their rules and you can still win at it. Keep plugging away and you will get a profitable campaign soon.
