Thanks for the reponse Greedy. I was told that the list was fresh and not shared, single optin and all subscribers in USA.

and the autoresponder is getresponse

  With all due respect that is horrible advice. Using this list would be defined as non-permission based, would be considered spam and would violate the ToS Walls agreed to when he/she signed up. And despite what you are saying here, most ESPs have the same ToS.
  
  Even if you managed to import a list such as this, the spam complaints would likely be so high that compliance would take action against the sender.
  
  Not a good a idea.

  Edit: clarification, I should have mentioned that the only credible source for the OP on this question is the GetResponse customer support team. The OP should be checking with them for the definitive answer. Based on how the OP describes it, I would say this is a no-no, but the only way to be sure is to pop over to our support page and ask.

  Wallstreeterwww, if the rules of the company state that you cannot use bought email lists, then that is exactly what you cannot do.
  
  By the way, you are one of the few people that actually bothered to check the TOU, and asked a question to clarify. That alone puts you in the top 1% that will make it in this business.

  Any list that YOU didn't create yourself is going to be suspect. I doubt that any AR will accept the list if you tell them it was purchased. If you don't tell them and you get a lot of bounces or spam complaints, you may get your AR account cancelled and all it will really do is have you (and your business) tagged as a spammer.
  
  There's a good reason that autoresponders don't accept paid lists. You don't know how clean or targeted the list is, nor do you know how many copies of the list have been sold.
  
  Look at it from the recipient's point of view. There's a reason that people have "whitelists". You can bet that you aren't going to be on one. Anything that isn't on my whitelist gets reported as spam.
  
  My suggestion...write the expense off at a lesson learned and dump the list.

Your best option now is to right-click on the file name, and click "Remove". To be extra safe, hold down the Ctrl key when you click remove. When it asks if you're sure you want to permanently delete the file... click 'Yes'.

Well, I don't want to go sending anyone down the road to failure or anything, but since you bought the list...

...I think some people are over reacting here. They are right, don't buy lists. Buy solo ads and build your own list... This list you have should be used with care. Don't sell to them. Send a friendly, informative e-mail or two and get a sense for the list's responsiveness.

You could use it to drive traffic to a facebook fan page by explaining your intent to build an online community for whatever your niche is.

Also, in your first e-mail after you introduce yourself, talk about the unsubscribe link for people who believe they have received your message in error. This should help to spare you the spam complaints...

Again, don't buy lists. But since you have, learn something from it, gain some experience working lists, no sense just letting it sit.

  I have never bought a list so I can't say it is either bad or good. I can tell you that most AR's will frown upon it to say the very least. Although many list vendors will tell you that the list is "targeted", how can you be absolutely certain that it really is targeted? How can you be sure that you are not getting the same list regardless of what category you chose? How old is that list? Where did that list come from?
  
  You are better off building your own listing. A small list of 100 subscribers that you got through your own methods is worth more than 10,000 subscribers you purchased through a website.
  
  If you are not convinced, then do a simple test. Buy a list of 1000 or 5,000 targeted subscribers. 2 weeks later buy another list of 1000 or 5,000 subscribers through the same company but with a dompletely different niche. Compare the 2 lists and see for yourself how many same email addresses you get!
  
  Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers in IM, including this forum. IM is tough to crack and has a long and hard learning curve but passion and hard work, and failure does eventually prevail!

Direct email to opt-in lists is a viable method. MOST major companies use this method to market and I have a list of them if you want (see my link in my signature). There are major differences between spamming and approaching people in your target market with an offer that matches what the target is all about.

Now before you flame me (exaggerated, I know), consider this.

If I've got a business selling robots and somebody sends me an offer for peanuts, that is not a match. Even though I like peanuts, the person sending that email didn't know that and is obviously emailing everybody he can find to sell his peanuts. But if somebody told that person, "hey this guy really likes peanuts" and he emails me, that is NO DIFFERENT than what I do when I go to Manta and find a business that I think might like my SEO services. Honestly, am I spamming that Manta person?

Direct email to opt-in lists is a viable business prospecting method and can save tons of time and money. Just include a "don't email me again' link and target people or businesses that are most likely to use whatever your offer is.

Now you can flame me!

You do have a valid point.

If you read the CAN-SPAM carefully you will find that you can send an un-solicited email to a potential customer in your target market. The proviso is of course to make sure that you have do have an un-subscribe link very clearly visible in that email.

However, the question asked by the OP was whether he could import that bought list into an auto-responder service that will not allow you to.

There is an outstanding book available on Amazon written by BIG Mike of this WF that gives clear guidelines about what you can and cannot do with regards to bulk emailing.
