Hostgator- Which plan?

Hi.

I wanna get hosting to install Prosper, to build landing pages and to be able to redirect to offers.
I was thinking of getting Hostgator- But which of the options should I pick?
Is the main one ("Unlimited Web hosting, Baby plan"), enough?
Or do I need VPS or anything else?

Thanks a lot!

Deleted because I gave the wrong answer. My bad.

One thing from my original post does still count though:-

Personally I wouldn´t use the Gator, but many have good feedback from them.

You need at least a VPS. Don't stick your landing pages or tracking on a shared host. You'll lose more money than you'll make back. You can check out the webhostingforums (google it) for good deals and reviews on host providers. I would probably stay away from HG. I use wiredtree and they've been great the past 4-5 years I've been with them.

  • The Baby Plan will probably serve your needs if you only want to host one site. I forget the name of the plan (aluminum?), but for $24.95 a month, you can get an account that will allow you to host as many domains as you like. I have about 20 sites, with tons of traffic and the $24.95 plan has been totally dependable

Yes a VPS is needed because the OP wants Prosper installed.

I don't see any reason to have a VPS or an expensive plan. VPS is for those who need root access and it comes with overheads - backup, monitoring etc of some kind. Unless you have a critical site that saves info like credit card or can't even stand an occassional slowness, shared hosting is good enough.

Hatchling is enough if you have only one domain and Baby allows multiple domains under one account. You can always upgrade easily, so start with a hatchling if you want to go with Hostgator.

    saphiry,

You need a VPS. If you have the budget, you can't go wrong with Beyond Hosting. It's rock solid and affiliate optimised for Prosper & CPV Lab etc.:

Most people that tell you that you don't need a VPS have no idea what they are talking about, or don't buy traffic to send through traffic.

The first day I was buying traffic, way back around 5 years ago I was on a shared host with tracking. I bought traffic through Facebook. Only a low budget of $20 mind you, but it was my first experience with really paying for traffic.

After checking my stats, only about 10% of the clicks I bought actually hit Prosper. The host crashed and was out the whole time I was buying clicks. Shared hosting has awful performance, its slow to load, its shared with too many other people that could kill the server with a resource hogging script.

On a VPS, you're always guaranteed resources, and trust me, P202 uses those resources. I've had maybe 1-2 hours of downtime a week on my shared host. Over the past 4 years on my Wiredtree VPS's, I've maybe only hit an hour of downtime total. I've never had resource issues and P202 runs flawlessly on it.

Save yourself the headache, ignore these fools that say you don't need a VPS, and get yourself a VPS.

      Thanks for your answers!

I'm a newbie, so I haven't earned anything yet and I wanna start with YouTube marketing and afterwards move on to POF.
45$ per month (or so) for VPS sounds like a lot of money for somebody in my situation. Do I really need that for a start?

If you intend to use P202, I agree with Justin.

If you will just host simple landing pages and won't be sending a lot of traffic to your sites now, I think you can use shared hosting (I'd recommend BlueHost instead of HG, though), but if you intend to use P202 it's better to get a VPN.

I have also lost traffic using P202 with cheap hosting plans, so don't make the same mistake.

I'm on the middle Hostgator plan (the one that allows more than one domain). I just put my Prosper on a subdomain. It seems to work OK. I'm not doing high volume stuff - I don't think it's even possible to get stacks and stacks of visits from 7Search.

I'm missing why a VPS would be needed.

There are a lot of bad shared hosts out there, but I have a problem with you acting like your experience is the typical one.

HostGator allows an awful large amount of resource use on its "unlimited plans." I've heard a couple accounts of people getting over 1TB a month in bandwidth (not saying that's typical, but it happens).

Another note, both the baby plan and the business plan place no limit on the amount of domains you can have.

For someone just starting I don't see the issue with shared hosting. Typically you're going to want to master the fundamentals before you start dabbling in paid traffic anyway. Once you're ready to take it to the next step jump up to a VPS.
