Creatives - Yours or Theirs?

Hi All,
I have a question about creatives. But first I'll tell you I am new to CPA. I am currently fully on the CPA Track. As well, I am, I have made a full time living online and offline/online for the past 4 years.

I want to thank the CPA folks in the forum for so many great contributions that have helped me to move into the CPA space. I would list the names, but anyone in this forum knows who they are and a few of the top dogs know me a little as I have picked a few brains privately.

Now, as the title says, I am wondering about creatives. On averagte, are we free to create our own banners, and if so, where can we find the advertisers requirements for them (if any)?

I am ready to set a few campaigns this week and I am creating my banners now. I don't want to piss off PeerFly or an advertiser. I want this done right out of the box.

Any creative's advice you have is appreciated!

T J

Depends on the advertiser. Some are more flexible than others.

You can create your own creatives; and I most always do when I'm capturing my own leads then sending them to the advertiser.

However, some advertisers can be quite strict and they may require approval of any creatives you've made. I much don't like anyone peeking at my creatives so I simply don't run those advertisers' offers.

Best way to find out how flexible an advertiser is is to simply ask your AM. And of course, there's nothing to stop you from split-testing both yours and their, if allowed, to see which one pulls best

You're going to always want to make your own.

Regarding making sure they are compliant or not, just talk with your affiliate manager.

jaggyjay & Greedy! Thanks guys, this is what I suspected. Best practice is check with my AM. I don't know about you jaggyjay, but I don't think Greedy sleeps. I think she must post from her super CPA spy phone that let's know whenever there is a new CPA thread. I was just this minute catching up on my Greed Reports when I saw your replies.
    Thanks guys.

Most of the times you can create your own banners, but it may be required to submit them for approval. Contact your affiliate manager if you're not sure.

When it's possible, I recommend you to create your own banners specifically for the placements you intend to use. The banners supplied by the advertisers may look good, but they are not always good performers.

When we run media buying campaigns, we usually work with CPM or time of exposure, and in both cases you should try to get as many clicks as possible (the higher the CTR the better). For this reason, it's wise to create specific banners for each placement for maximum performance. If you can't do it by yourself, consider hiring a freelancer (but give them all the specifications... after all, they're freelancers, not marketers ).

Personally I'd say create your own, 99% it's better off IMO.

    Thanks William, Thanks Chris,
My intuition was as both of you have responded. It seems to me that banners supplied by advertisers would likely be subject to banner blindness as they would have already been presented many times to viewers.

I'll stick to finding advertisers that allow my banners in place of theirs.

    T J,

Why would you want to create your own when many of them already have this in place for everyone to use. Just because you are going to use your own, does not mean that you will see an increase in revenue from these ads.

I would not waste my money or time to create my own creatives.

You can write your own ads but some CPA network will want to approve it first before you add them to your site.

If an advertiser's banner gets .5% CTR and your own banner gets a 1% CTR, your revenue instantly doubles. Stock banners typically don't get great CTRs and you can almost always get a better CTR by testing your own banners.

Interesting! 6 to 1 in favor of making our own creatives. I wonder if this is representative of the CPA Publishers in general. Of course it is easier to cut and run with the supplied banners, but I have to believe that banner blindness has to be a problem at some point.

I have started this morning with stock creatives on POF. I submitted 3 banners I created for approval this morning. I will split test and tell you what happens.

I know creating graphics and getting copy right is difficult for some, but these are generally not difficult for me. I have extensive experience with many graphics and video softwares. I can knock out a banner and copy pretty quick. Getting it right? Well we'll see if my talents from other IM efforts translates into my new experiences with CPA.

I hope to hear today about my approvals on the banners I made. The second I do, I'll kick off the campaigns.
