The Top Six English Speaking Countries (for ad targeting):

You might find some of these other countries convert just as well as USA for english language products, FB ads etc.

Go to List of countries by English-speaking population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Click the tab that says "as first language"

Choose only the countries where that figure is a high % of the eligible population + are wealthy countries, and ignore the ones where a low ratio have English as a first language. So, what we have is:

USA 225M out of 280M
UK 58M out of 61M
Canada 17.6M out of 33M
Australia 15M out of 21M
Ireland 4.1M out of 4.4M
New Zealand 3.6M out of 4.2M

Hope that helps some folks get some extra ROI!
Alex.

That's an interesting (and good) idea for deciding who/countries to target - another thing you might want to take into account is number of internet users per country as well

Here's a couple more to help out for those who don't look through the list :

The Netherlands (90% are english speaking)
    Sweden (86% are english speaking)

A LOT of african countries are above the 95% mark too - but wouldn't recommend them down to the fact it'd be hard to find appropriate offers for them and as Chris said, internet users are very low I can imagine. (no stats to back that up)

Make sure that you are using an INTL redirect so that you can track your sales/ conversions from some of those countries. I did this before and I was seeing that I was getting a shit load of clicks in some countries but conversions SUCKED.

    Track Track Track!

Especially with content network in some of those countries can really hurt you!

This. It's indeed painful to get tons of clicks from some countries and end up with pennies.

You should ALL ALL ALL take a peak a boo at this:
List Of Countries By English Speaking Population

I noticed some of those countries aren't on a lot of peoples lists when they target their ads...

It's good to offer something that will be of value to them (keeping in mind their culture)
but if it's something everyone around the world does or uses... go nuts ...

I realize I'm posting the same link.. but you should look at the list..
Because he didn't mention some countries that have LARGE english speaking populations..

Excellent post by the way... I just want people to actually look at the list.. some people will just look at the 6 you posted and not look into it any further.. :/

Yeah that seems like a pretty cool metric.

However I have had some decent success in India, doing Content in "English" language.

Trick is looking at Countries that NOT only have English as First language but also as SECOND!

Don't forget to check out Internet users via country also.

    Good Luck

    That is a good tip.

Also I like to look for country volume (i.e. India), and their spending power (i.e. Brazil)

Interesting topic. As professional linguist I can say that for example in India they prefer English over Indian languages (i.e. Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi + numerous other official and non-official local languages), especially when using Internet, mobile phones and social media.

In case they use local languages e.g. Hindi, they like to romanize those, i.e. use these Latin letters (like in English) rather than Devanagari letters.

Heck, I could make a WSO out of this

Interesting post Lexi but ya I do have success in other non speaking english countries as well for example in Pakistan, their national language is Urdu but their official govt. language is english and I found very cheap traffic and good conversion,so it's depend upon your situation or offer.
