WordPress or HTML Landing Pages?

I recently changed my business models and markets. I've been in the offline client market for many years now, but recently completely devoted myself to CPA.

I've almost always used WordPress. When I didn't, I outsourced. Now, I am building LP's for my traffic funnels and I've been using WordPress. I see many discussions regarding the use of HTML with marketers in this space, but I don't see many discussions regarding WordPress in this space.

Do you know of any dis-advantages to using WordPress for LP's in the CPA space?

    • Depends on the goals of the lander.

If you're making a simple Advertorial/FakeBlog/Rules style lander, just to boost up ROI, then no point in Wordpress - better to have your guys make it in HTML.

However, if you're more in the game of collecting data, then Wordpress with the Optimizely plugin may be a viable choice.

Performance is always much better with HTML/CSS.

Even bad HTML could mean less performance (loading speed). That's why all my landing pages are HTML/CSS based and optimize for loading speed (minifying, combining, css sprites and more).

    What Michael said.
sometimes those extra 500ms loading time is all it takes for a potential convertion to turn into a bounce

I'm mostly using HTML/PHP based landing pages, however if I's like to create a good looking LP I'm creating a WP LP.

Also it depends on the product I'd like to promote.

Since most landing pages are 1 to 3 pages, Wordpress is very over-kill.

But for some people they know Wordpress and it is easy for them to use.

And at the end of the day do what works for you.

It looks like most of you have a preference for HTML. Many seem to think that for more robust LP's, WordPress is okay. I don't program myself anymore, it's been about 10 years since I did any significant programming with VB & SQL. I never got into HTML or PHP, but I can see it would be very beneficial, especially for expedience sake. But, I'll continue to outsource the HTML/PHP for now.

I can immediately see thought that there are limited aspects with WP for me as well as most of WP is PHP, so I depend on plugins and such.

With WP I can snap a site together in 30 minutes, or less. It's the graphics that may take a little longer, but I a pretty good with PhotoSHop.

Eventually, I will outsource everything or hire a full timer for LP's and graphics. For now, I really need to spend as much time as I can with getting and growing profits.

Greedy is right, I feel that WP is overkill for these LP's. But I save time and money at the moment using WP. Oh, and Greedy, love your tips and instructions. Your site has made my transition into this space much easier. Great Site and Info!

I don't see a particular disadvantage in using WordPress for landing pages. Both WordPress and HTML landing pages can perform equally well in a campaign as long as they have the same layout. If the page works fine technically and loads at an acceptable speed, then it doesn't matter what platform you are using.

This is not necessarily true. It is true that considering all the layout is the same, an HTML page will load faster than a WordPress page but if we think of many non-optimized HTML landing pages freely distributed out there, a well-optimized WordPress landing page might beat them in loading speed.

A robust LP is never ok

Sounds fine, I just wouldn't do it as a long term solution. Also don't be afraid to post the first draft of your page to get some feedback on WF.

    Thanks everyone.

Greedy, you suggested I share my LP drafts here in the forum. Won't I be at risk of having my creatives and angles replicated by others?

If you landing page isn't converting and want some good feedback that is 1 way.

For feedback you'll get it could be worth getting your page stolen.

But honestly any real competitor is going to steal a working page. There is enough spy tools out there. And even if someone takes a page, it doesn't mean it will work for them.

Yeah, your right. I used many of those tools to spy on offline clients activities being serviced by my competitors.

Okay, I have a few LP's I'll share this weekend and hope to get your thoughts on them.

For LP I prefer selfcoded HTML/CSS.

I had a Optimize Press Salesletter. I copied the design and made it in HTML.. SO MUCH FASTER.. + It's responsive now

I notice everyone choosing either wordpress or html. Does anyone use both on the same site? I have been doing this for years. I always create my site using wordpress, and then my sales funnel uses an html squeeze page, product sales page, and download page.

I do it this way because I found html pages that only needed a few simple changes, to be exactly what I wanted, and wordpress is a pain for squeeze pages and sales pages, unless you have something like optimize press. And trying to design your own html pages from scratch, is another nightmare.

I load the html pages into my public_html folder, and the necessary images into the images folder, and I am good to go. I use an ftp program to load them, because it is easier than the cpanel. I use my microsoft front page software, to make changes to the pages, after they are loaded into my site. The whole process is very simple.

If I name my sales page is bestsalespage.html

My link in my pages would be, http://mywebsite.com/bestsalespage.html

Am I the only one doing this?

I often use wordpress bare bones theme and make static pages and paste my html codes in it. This gives me the ability to use some of wordpresses great plugins and make the process faster for me.

I've begun using a cool plugin called WP Landing Pages. It comes with customizable templates, add-ons. It has a nice suite of options. It's by InBound Now

I haven't finished the LP's yet. But I'll be back with those shortly. I was also able to easily use my MailChimp script with the plugin.

There is another that looks good, "Ultimate Landing Page and Coming Soon Page". I'll give this one a try in a couple of days, I want to spend time with the first one for a few days.

The first one completely eliminates the need for sub domains. So far, it looks like it can offer a viable solution.
