Extremely poor conversations with Peerfly offers... what am I doing wrong?

Hey guys,

I've been with Peerfly for just about a month now and have made my first entry into CPA marketing. Long story short, I'm receiving such poor conversations, it's pretty disheartening on my low budget. I even spoke to one of the AM at Peerfly and they said that the numbers I am having are extremely odd. I left an email with one of the other managers at the site to see what he would say, but I thought I'd ask here as well. If your curious here's some of my number:

Unq ---- Raw ---- Conversations
75 ------112 ------ 1
100 ---- 267 ------ 0
339 ---- 796 ------ 0
82 ------ 97 ------- 0

That translates to a conversation rate (between all the offers) of 0.17%.

Those are just 4 different offers I've tried. All my traffic is coming though BuzzCity, and as such, all the offers I'm targeting are mobile optimized. And yes, I am targeting the correct country for each offer.

I know people say that getting clicks for pennies on the dollar is junk traffic, which I'm well aware of, but the AM I spoke to said that lots of people have had success for BuzzCity for PPC, so I don't think that's the issue.

Any thoughts you guys have on the matter would be great. I've paused all my ad campaigns currently because I'm tired of wasting money for no returns.

Edit: Slightly more details... I know some people use a landing page, but basically I've taken my affiliate link, put it through bitly (so it's not super long), then put that link directly on my ad. So a click on my ad goes straight to the landing page of the offer.

  • What's your budget. I've already blown through $100 on my campaign and have only scratched the service of figuring it out.
  • Like Sweetcheeks12354 already mentioned. You will need to spend money to get some data. However I would suggest you, to try it with a simple Landing Page.
  • if offers are not converting,it really doesn't mean that it's the fault of peerfly. Spending money to find out profitable campaign is the part of game. Collect more keywords, create a decent landing page, focus on angle, spend time for your campaign and I'm sure you will find profitable campaign.

    • Just $20 so far. I'm a college kid and didn't feel like putting forward $100 right off the bat. Out of my $20 I've spent, I've made back $1.60, so I'm already pretty discouraged, despite the low volume.

My only concern with a landing page, is that these are mobile offers, and I know if I was on my phone, clicking an ad, I wouldn't want to be redirected to a landing page, then to click through again, just to get to where I actually enter my email (so it'll convert). Granted, I really can't go any lower with 0 conversations, but this just seems like extra work, for no return. Plus, I'd need go to buy a generic domain name capable of housing a landing page where the URL looks at least somewhat related to the offer... Again, more investment there.

I never implied it was PeerFly's fault. Most of the offers I've been running have an average of 5%-8% conversations as registered through PeerFly and it's thousands of users. I'd assume they have adequate amount of data to get those numbers, so I know it's not the offers fault. Hence the fault I figured I was doing something wrong.

And you mention keywords... Currently, most of my campaigns are image based (small mobile images like 120x20, etc), rather than text based if that makes a difference. Plus, at $0.01 a click, I don't get to specify keywords anything, just general categories to place the ad in. Currently I'm just targeting mobile portals and content, as well as community, and entertainment & lifestyle. I figure if you're clicking the ad (and it's not accidental) then you probably intend to act on it. Having been on the other side of CPA for years before realizing what it was, I know that most landing pages appear very sketchy and even the most confident user can be a bit shaky entering even an email in a form... Which is why I'd expect a low conversation rate ( >5%) but currently, I'm not even close to anything near that.

  • 1. Don't make assumptions. This is just your opinion. Maybe your target market "needs" a LP to pre-sell your offer. This is why you have to test.
    2. Hosting and Domain is pretty cheap now + In the long run you will need it.
  • Hi,

Buy dedicated hosting to make sure you have correct
    and much needed loading times.
Split test direct linking and through a landing page.

Run PROPER tracking - I use cpv lab for ppc and ppv.
Delete anything is not converting. I spend $1000 before
I managed to get a decent ROI when I started out.

Try different traffic sources for different offers.

Generally the rule of thumb I use:
if the offer pays me $10 dollars I will spend up to $40 before I dismiss it.
  • You're doing what everyone does, direct linking and failing.

Get creative, use angles, use landing pages to transition and presell between your ad and the offer.

    • That makes sense mate if I were the surfer and landing on a direct offer page, I would have no idea what do they want or how the hell am I got there and I'd close the window. I'm new into this CPA game too, but I'm definitely going to overview my existing landing pages. Good tip

  • Also a month its not that long
  • Neither is $20 to be honest.

  • PPC is a hard game to beat at first. It's like Call of Duty online going again'st pro's like me. When you start, it will be hard as **** because I am making you rage like crazy, what you need to do is slowly figure out the way to get around me and over conquer what I do.

Treat PPC like a game, make it something you want to be a pro at anytime you enter the game.

-Your welcome for the mini COD post.

    • I looked up that script, and it looks awesome, but quite expensive. I've read about Prosper 202... Would you recommend that as a free, adequate alternative for proper tracking?

I think "get creative" is the best thing I've read in this thread. Sadly, that really opened my eyes. Thanks.

Ehh, this is really my first time moving into a field where you gotta spend money to make money, so a month with no return seemed like awhile. Guess I've got plenty of time to increase.

On my budget, $20 is like a week of food! Haha, well not quite, but I am still the stereotypical poor college kid.

I actually found an awesome link on your blog Luke about setting up mobile landing pages! I plan to implement that soon, but I just don't understand, as a user, why they would want to enter their email twice, even if I can pre-pop it into the actual CPA offer.

Love the COD reference, even though I'm more of a Halo guy currently! But nonetheless, thanks!
  • I think everyone has made some very good points so far. Most of all, it's very important that you start researching mobile landing pages. With mobile, we see the best results by far with a pre-sell lander.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Setup tracking, and a good landing page then try again.
