Free/cheap traffic methods

Hi,

I would like to hear an update on free traffic methods.
I've been trying to promote offers on YouTube for more than 3 months now and all I made so far is 45$.. doesn't really go well obviously.

I asked my affiliate managers from Peerfly and a few other networks what offers they would recommend for YouTube and they basically all told me the same- That their publishers generally don't do really well on YouTube but I could try if I want. If even my affiliate managers tell me that YouTube isn't great for profit, should I really keep trying it?

Therefore I would like to hear from you what methods you would recommend. I have a small budget, so I cannot afford it to just loose 2000$. So I'd love to hear your suggestions on free or cheap traffic methods for a start. Thanks!

i know some have some success using craigslist.

I would suggest you to try PPV traffic as they are pretty cheap. Some international PPC are cheap too

    Hello S,

Youtube can get you more cash than that..

    My advice, if you aren't doing this already;

-SEO optimize the video for specific long tail keywords to make sure the video ranks on page 1 in youtube search results for those particular keywords
-You can also try to have your video ranked on page 1 on google search results( Gets you a tonne of traffic and sales)
-and try to make your videos look popular by buying views and likes for easy acceptance and virality

    To your success

    - Facebook
    - Twitter
    - Real World Flyers ect.
    - Fiverr
    - Forum Posts

I already choose my keywords carefully- I always check on the Google keywords tool as well as the YouTube keyword suggestor. I also pay attention to the name of the video etc. I put the offer link (iframed) in the first line of the description. No landing pages, just direct linking.

My videos are usually offer related. For example when I promoted an email submit for a fashion coupon I uploaded a haul about the brand or a video about fashion and style in general. Or when I promoted an email submit for gaming I uploaded a review about that game.
I also uploaded videos sometimes which didn't have anything to do witht he offer, for example music with a non-official video and the lyrics.

In one of my channels I even have 40,000+ views (in 3 months) and almost 90 subscribers. But it doesn't convert at all.

Afterwards I put the link also in StumbleUpon, Digg and PingFarm.

      I'm running out of ideas

From what you just said, it doesn't seem that you have a traffic problem at all, but rather a conversion problem.

You said you don't use landing pages. Most, if not all, people who are successful using YouTube as a traffic source are linking to a squeeze page and building a list. It's more work of course, but it's necessary because you need that opportunity to let them get to know you.

For free traffic, I'd work on SEO, article marketing or even Facebook fan pages.. I'm not a big fan of free youtube traffic..

While free traffic is nice.... most of the time, it's harder to convert. You can try Youtube, Greedy seems to have some success with it.

Try PPV or PPC, you can find pretty cheap traffic if you know how.

Agree with Nathan - this seems to be a conversion problem. Unfortunately, you can't just slap up a CPA banner and expect conversions, even on a big traffic site. It is well worth putting in a little front-end effort to ensure you have a good funnel going.

For example: you could decide to limit your coupons to to skin care. You could then use sites like Quantcast to get a broad idea of the demographics who view the product websites.

See where they hang out, get a grip on their grammar. Set up a website that you think will be well tailored for them, from the style of writing, to the fonts and colours. Find out who they follow on Twitter, and start following them yourself in the hope of reciprocity. Start commenting on related blogs and forums with meaningful, fun contributions. In your posts, softly lead them to the CPA offers - again taking a lead from peer websites.

It's a start, at least. You'd get some free recurring traffic after a few weeks, you'd likely have a better conversion rate base from which you can continually refine, and you can have another shot at YouTube traffic if you like.

Thank you for the tip to use QuantCast to find things to SOFTLY lead people into a splash page after I have added QUALITY content. I KNOW better than to spam and I hope others will, as well. Just do this very carefully withOUT spam. Ie, a siggy on forums, stuff like this, and specialize, that is what I was also mising.

    Hey Saphiry,
I just wanted to see if you had gotten any progress on this? What did you end up doing and did this work for you?

If not(or either way) I would love to take a look at your youtube videos and see if I see any immediate feedback...
