First what you should learn is how to successfully apply on a CPA network as respectable one required telephone interview once upon you apply trough their online form.
Next one, if you get accepted is to learn how to and that is maybe hardest than apply...
Well, you will learn as on the Internet, especially WSO can find a lot's of good offer for reasonable price so jump in!

1. Set Your Budget.

2. Apply for some quality CPA Networks... Peerfly, NeverBlue, & MaxBounty are good if you are new to CPA.

3. Pick a good traffic source. Since you have experience start with what you know.

4. Setup tracking. (Tracking202 or CPVLab)

5. Learn how to pick an offer and build it a good landing page for your traffic source.

6. Start testing, and tweaking. Test for 1-2x the offers payout, or 7-10k impressions.

7. Don't jump around much, stay focused, and read as much as you can.

First of all, make some research. Find out what offers, niches, networks, platforms, etc are available out there. Then, decide on what you want to do and GET ORGANIZED.

Create a business plan, set goals, define a budget and take action.

Organization is the key to be successful!

It's such a broad question, OP. You could (and people have) fill an entire book on the subject. Are you already familiar with any of the basics: tracking (placing pixels and subids), building landing pages, researching a demographic, writing ad copy, getting into affiliate networks, etc? If I really had to break it down, I'd say ...

1. most of the basics are technical. They can be learned quickly.
2. learn how to write ad copy from a book called Cashvertising.
3. build a good relationship with your affiliate manager - they will give you top pointers on offers to push, demos, what the demos are responding to etc.
4. don't defer to an all-in-one guide. Be prepared to test, test, test for yourself; use your own observations and imagination to carve a successful path (and then keep schtum about what works!)

If you're already well versed in affiliate Marketing, it shouldn't be too difficult. You can try some offers on your niches site as well as your list for a start to get the hang of it first

I would recommend you Kenster's Rags to Riches guide. It simply explains how to start off with CPA and build everything from scratch.

The guide was given away for free last time I've checked (but it was a paid one some months ago).
