Opening Affiliate Links In An Iframe

4 replies
I was reading a few articles that said that opening affiliate links in an Iframe can cause problems if somebody is using Internet Explorer. Supposedly Internet Explorer won't count cookies which means that you don't get credit for the sale or action that the person takes. Is this true?

    I heard this before as well, but this was years ago and I believe with a specific version, I haven't had any issues recently.

      Hi Chris,

      Thanks for responding. What coding do you use to put an affiliate link in a frame? I'm using the coding below and it's being blocked by Internet Explorer 9. I have to approve the script in order to get it to work.

      <iframe src="http://www.affiliatelink.com" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"
      height="1000" width="100%"></iframe>

      Here's the message I'm getting from Internet Explorer 9:

      Internet Explorer restricted this web page from running scripts or ActiveX controls. (Allow Blocked Content)

        Visit your affiliate page directly on IE 9 and see if you still get that notice.

        It's likely that the message has more to do with the actual landing page than with it being IFramed.

        If that's the case, I'm not sure if anything can be done. Once a visitor goes to subject landing page, if user's machine needs the ActiveX permissions - then visitor will still get that notice.
