A small newspaper ad put $608 in my cpa account in 3 days

Hey fellow Warriors,

I want to share with you what I consider to be a highly overlooked way to easily make money with CPA marketing. I've done all kinds of stuff with CPA in the past... PPC, SEO, Banner ads and even direct mail. I've gotten them all to work but it wasn't necessarily easy or fun.

So just last week I decided to try running a small newspaper classified ad promoting a health offer. I live in a town with a lot of retirement age people and they tend to want to remain healthy so I figured it was a good bet. I picked an offer that paid out a $32 commission for getting people to sign up for a $3.95 trial.

I built a tiny landing page that direct linked to the main offer page. I kept it simple because I didn't know how the ad would pull. Then I went online to my local newspaper's website and whipped up this small ad:

"How to look 5 years younger without drugs or surgery. New scientific breakthrough clinically proven to reduce signs of aging. All natural. Go to (website url) for more information now."

I ran this ad in the health and beauty section and it cost only $36! So it didn't really matter if it bombed or not. I submitted the ad and waited for it to run not really expecting much out of it. I would have been happy to break even because then I could build my list for free.

But what do you know! That tiny, cheap little ad wound up producing 19 conversions at $32 commission each! That comes out to $608 in revenue with a cost of only $36 to create it! Needless to say I was very pleased...

And the great thing is that there are thousands of newspapers all over and all of them are cutting their ad rates due to competition from the internet. I didn't even try to get a reduced price which I probably could have done.

So there you go!

You might want to give it a try yourself and see what happens. And with the sheer number of newspapers to choose from and all the different niches you can target this will never get saturated. Especially with nearly everyone but us overlooking it.

That's it... just wanted to add some value to the people and forum who have been so good to me over the years. And if you have any questions please post them in this thread instead of PM'ing me because then everyone can see the responses.

Andrew

I've thought about this as well. Do you know exactly where your ad was placed in the health and beauty section? Can you choose this or did just place it where there was extra space?

I have done this before. You have to really get your ad to make them want to look at the offer...then your landing page must convert them.

    Andrew,

    Great job...just a few questions.

    1) Did you do anything special with the ad ..ex: bold type or was it just a standard classified ad?

    2) What day of the week did you place the ad?

    3) Was this ad put into a local county daily paper or was it the major city paper.

    Thanks

    John

Where can you find offers that accept traffic from classified ads? Been looking for a long time for them and I can't seem to find them. All offers I've seen explicitly say no classified ads permitted.

Personally I'd prefer using classified ads right now as a starting point, and slowly go to PPC from there.

Great post Andrew.. normally online marketers keep looking at online sources like running ppc campaigns, Social Media promotion, Article marketing etc. but they underestimate offline methods like Advertising in Newspapers which really works great for local businesses and even online business if you do it right way, i mean you must have a product to promote which have demand, converting landing page and right knowledge of when to advertise and where to advertise.

Wow great story, my dad has been telling me for years to do that.....says there are ads you can run they individually get ran throughout tons of community papers, so you pay one price but show up in a ton of small community shoppers...

If you can actually get someone to put down paper, and go to the computer,... they are already highly motivated and engaged vs. internet they click in and click out....

I would say try to get more money, again IMO the hardest part is getting them to actually go online and view the site but they might have all paid 10x more.. never know. Older people are easier to convert online in some cases... makes total sense to me, great job.

    NEXT STEP: infomercial? hahah

I have to get a prospect/customer to stay on the line for 2+ minutes to get the $42 payout.

I will be trying this with a $40 ad cost for a 169,000 circ newspaper.

So this was a print ad with a direction to go to a specific URL, that part I get but targeting it towards older people and giving them a technical direction, hmmm that parti didn't know older people were capable of doing.

A town near my city has a lot of retired people, but the newspaper ad over there costs a lot more, do you guys think its a good idea for me to do something similar to this by putting a postcard on their cars, and maybe sending them these cards to Senior Homes. Or do you guys think the ad placement needs to be in a more legit place for seniors to consider. Thing is lol, seniors have a lot of time but they are always trying to convince themselves that they are too busy.

Actually it was very targeted traffic, Who reads news papers more then older individuals? Not being rude to the elderly but to be honest alot of them consider that to be the highlight of their day, Sitting down with coffee and reading the paper.

Kimble said earlier in the thread that they've had success with classified ads. Plus how many other people came back to share their results? About one?

With a such large amount of people reading newspapers, it sounds like as long as your ad and offer is good then it should produce fruitful results.

Maybe your right that the creator of this thread made up their story. That doesn't mean that posting on classified ads is a waste of time though.

Hi! I have a question for you
I am new to CPA and have a great offer where I have a group of students giving out flyers which will promote the consumer to an offer.

Why do you all suggest making a landing page?
Can't I just direct them to the offer?

Can someone explain this to me and what is the best pages to use.

This is to get people to look at their credit score.

A lot of networks don't allow direct linking - if you would set up a simple landingspage - you could capture their email and then market to them.

A squeeze page can be set up easily.
