Ask Me Anything About Affiliate Marketing

Hey guys.

I wanted to open the floor for serious questions on affiliate marketing. Some of you may or may not know me, but I'll give a quick intro anyways.

I've been in the IM space for about 5-6 years as strictly an affiliate marketer. I don't sling ebooks and I don't consider myself a guru. I got started with dating ads on Facebook back in the day, and now have scaled out to other networks in display, PPV and mobile traffic. My monthly profits are now in the mid-5 figure range with a top grossing day of around $1x,xxx. I'm not by any means the biggest affiliate marketer around, and I've never claimed to be, but I live very comfortably, and could afford to live comfortably just about anywhere in the world I think. But I love Bangkok, so I can't really imagine going else where :p.

I'll try to answer any questions as best I can. Questions touching things on specifics like my exact offers, lps, etc, will be ignored. I also don't like sharing exact numbers that only me and my accountant know (My family isn't even sure of exactly how much money my businesses make). Just so you know I'm not some random punk, here is a picture of one of my published stat pics:

So go ahead and ask away!
#ad networks (cpm/cpl, display) #affiliate #marketing
  • Don't have a question to ask, just wanted to congratulate you on your immense success, it's always great to see a success story. Excellent job!

    • Justin do you specialize in Facebook and POF?

What type of initial investment to you recommend to get started?

Do you derive most of your income from direct ads or from your email lists?

For someone who knows very little, where is the best place to start? CPA?
      Clickbank?

Do you create your own products?

One thing that holds me back is the thought that it will take me weeks to
start making a profit. Is there a good way to get to at least breakeven rather
      quickly?

  • Hey Justin,

I currently average around $100 daily with paid traffic. What are the steps I need to take in order to turn that into $500 a day considering a current $5000 monthly budget? What kind of pitfalls do I have to watch out for and what do I need to plan ahead to make it there smoothly? Thanks!
  • Justin Dupre is definitely legit!
  • many congratulations on your success. It's always great to hear that fellow warriors are happy in what they are doing.
  • Why aren't you guys asking anything? This man is giving away valuable advice for free and all I hear is crickets?

    • Hi Justin,
Congrats on your affiliate marketing success. I would just like to know whether any beginner should start with CB or with companies selling physical products.
  • Congratulations on your crazy success, I hope to get to your level one day!

Where do you send all your traffic? I mean, do you have a squeeze page or do you send them to a minisite to soft sell visitors?
  • Justin....in POF....let's say I come to find that after 3 weeks testing, only a couple angles and age groups within those angles are profitable. EACH of these age groups (40+) are being taken to the same LP but obviously the wording has changed a bit because of ages/angle.

So my question is do I want to keep working to try and make the lackluster angles/age groups work OR do I want to just pause them and focus on the ones that are doing well and find more converting creatives?

    I struggle with this....thanks

  • What system is that pic from?

Is it june of last year?

Btw, I think Justin knows his stuff. I've never met him but he always offers good advice.

    • If you feel confident in selling, go for it. I prefer leads as they're easier for anyone new in the industry, but sales are typically a no scrub no shave area which is great for getting accurate information

It depends. How much money are you losing. Are you seeing consistent conversions or not? That is what I like to look for. If I am seeing 1 out of every 15 - 25 clicks convert, but I'm still unprofitable but at a decent level (lets say I'm losing 50%), I would stick to that campaign. If its inconsistent, where I might get 3 conversions really fast, then another 100 clilcks to another conversion, then 20 clicks for another, then 5 conversions in the next 10 clicks, I might test a bit longer, but inconsistency is the main killer of campaigns for me.

It also depends on the scale of a campaign. I try not to make my campaigns to small. If I have to make 100 small campaigns to make $100, I would kill myself. Smaller campaigns are easier to get profitable, but harder to manage and track. I shoot for medium to large target ranges.

For you, if its a considerable amount of money that you are making from the other campaigns, focus on optimizing those. You may learn some lessons that you can use to then go back and scale your previous failed campaigns with.

This pic is from last year on the Integrate platform.
  • Hey Justin.
I consider starting with ppv, and wondered which company you recommend.
And also, isn't the potential of ppv limited? Because of the limited amount of people that use the softwares of these companies?
And one more thing, I have heard stories that companies ban ppl in ppv industry and steal their campaign, what do you think about it?

    Thanks Justin
  • Dear Justin , my site is a kind of B2C business model and I am looking place to buy ads
    Or join affiliate network ?

Do y guide me some place that I can buy ads

    Thanks
  • How can I promote linkshare products?
  • Hi Justin - Glad I saw this thread and will start following your blog.

My question: Where do you see the most growth and what are you most excited about right now (Facebook, PoF, PPV, Mobile and Display)?
    • [1] reply
    • Landing pages, blogs, squeeze pages or direct to offer. I have a whole plethora of ways I send traffic.

If I had nothing but a computer and internet access to my name, I'd start how I did originally. Freelancing - whether that be writing, managing campaigns, design, etc, its a great source of money and people always need things done that they don't want to do.

It is limited in that sense, but there are a lot of people with the software on their PC.

I know campaigns get stolen. They get stolen across every traffic source and niche. Not much you can do to avoid it, other than just staying ahead of the pack. I know LeadImpact has made "direct deals" on campaigns they've seen do well, at which point they don't allow anyone else to promote that offer. But the only reason I've seen people banned is because they were doing something they shouldn't have been doing.

I hear most B2B is done through search. You could also consider retargeting on display as a good option.

Linkshare is physical products with percentages paid on sales, I believe, so pick a high value/high percentage payout offer and start there. These could be promoted on any traffic source.

Mobile is obviously the biggest grower and mobile net usage is starting to surpass pc net usage. I expect networks to start getting their crap together and make targetting and usability on thier self serve platforms up to shape over the course of this year making it easier for everyone to jump in. Facebook is a flopping fish after they decided to go public, so they've had to squeeze every penny they can. PoF is innovating nicely and growing at a steady rate. They're the new FB. PPV isn't doing much these days, and display will always be strong.
  • Thanks for doing this Justin, really appreciate it.

I am curious, for PPV, say you launch 10 campaigns, how many on average will become profitable?
    • [1] reply
    • I've had weeks where 9/10 campaigns will go my way, and weeks where 10/10 flop miserably despite my best efforts. There is no average. I do find though, that the more time I put into understanding my targets, the better I will do.
  • Congrats on your success! I am also an affliate marketer who is having alot of success also, not quite on your level yet however I fully expect to be by the end of the year

Where are you originally from? How long have you been living in Bangkok and what made you go and live there?
  • I'm originally from Minnesota. I was an exchange student in high school in northern Thailand. I liked it so much I stayed for another year in university, at which point business kicked up for me and I focused solely on that. Been here around 6-7 years.

    Justin,

Thank you for offering the free advice!

I am proficient in seo and want to diversify my income online, so I wanted to start with affiliate marketing.

Are there any sources that provide direct sales from my website rather than signing up with click bank and sending my traffic to a vendors squeeze page?

Also, do you have any advice on big ticket products to sell?

    Thank you
  • Hey Justin,

Been reading your blog for a few years now and I like your content. I have a very similar affiliate story and started around the same time you did (Ah the good ol' days). Since you are answering questions I'd thought this would be a perfect opportunity to get your take on some things...

You seem to be very involved with PPV... Is there a typical set of rules that you've found that every PPV landing page should have? (example: headline, with bullet points, big CTA, must look like offer page and have an audio file, etc, etc)

    And...

You also do a lot of dating offers which I never got into much. What has been the key for you on getting those visitors to sign-up for a dating website? Is it all about selling the
    "possibility of sex"?

    Thanks
  • You can try white labeling. I don't have too much advice here as most of the stuff I do is affiliated or I make it myself. And again, most of it isn't physical.

The big niches, health, money, and relationships is where most of my money is made.

Most landing pages I make are visually or emotionally shocking. Because PPV is interuptive, most people will just X out as soon as the pop up appears. The only way to get by this is by hooking the user as soon as the pop comes up. A shocking image and headline helps, as does audio and a countdown timer. Keep the design simple and ugly.

And no, relationships aren't always about sex. You'll need to do some psych research to find out what kind of targets need what angle to compete.

Yup. You could always hire a few Filipinos/Malaysians and find clients that need design/copy done. Very easy way to make a buck as long as you can make $100 - 200 a day. Kind of a Geoarbitrage setup.

  • Generally do you do all the work yourself or do you outsource most of it?
    • [1] reply
    • I do most if not all of the creative thinking work and outsource what I can like design, and sometimes managing campaigns.
      • [1] reply
  • Do you have any experience with pay per call/click to call? If so I will ask my question following your response, if not, thanks for this thread anyway.
  • What up Justin?

I always love reading what you have to say and I think it's great that you are openly answering everyone's questions. You the man!

    Here's my question for ya!

When you create campaigns on POF and you find let's say ... 2 or 3 ads that get high CTR & CVR ... what is your process for scaling those ads as much as possible? Do you hit every log in count in tiers of 50?

Do you scale it to all of the other countries?

Do you feel like you can keep a campaign going for over a few months if you are constantly uploading new ads and switching angles when your old ads and angles "burn out"?
  • Chang, Singha or Leo?
    • [1] reply
    • Wow dude. I hope you keep this thread going but now that I know where your blog is I have more good reading ahead. I am a stoked newbie. I have studied full time IM since last December and was mostly looking at those 'turn key affiliate businesses' or network marketing platforms. I got a little sick of the hype and pumping-up and recently started looking into ClickBank as a more direct way to earn. I am a little bummed about the word on the street - CB just aint what it used to be.

As far as advice goes for new marketers, would you recommend something other than CB to get started? I noticed Wolf Storm is promoting their own in house training.
  • What's up Justin. I love Bangkok too. Nice chicks n food. Will be visiting Bangkok again in June.
  • please answer, how big is the CPA market? (in millions)

sorry if the questions has already been answered
  • I'm wondering if you are still around Justin - Your orig post was 4 years ago now.

I've just been getting into CPA aff marketing. after a few years in IM and web dev.

I have tried a few offers, was looking at mobile field esp. but after 2 weeks not a sausage!

am running tracking through a bit of software called demontrack which I thought would great but the clicks from the traffic source vs the demontrack stats don't add up...

I'm in with affiliaxe and peerfly right now and just trying out offers a little at a time (working full time so don't have a lot of spare time) but have a low budget set looking for something... anything... that converts..... with the idea that I can open up the budget when it starts to work.

Any pointers would be great. I chose mobile just cause it seems to be getting big (ran some google display ads for one of my other projects and got at least 45% mobile traffic - Plus the clicks are cheaper)

anyhoo - I need a ray of light right now with some advice that will help me get a campaign to work...

    thoughts? anyone?

    thanks
    can't wait to hear back

    • [1] reply
    • I have some, although it isn't a huge focus for my business. I've had a couple good PPCall campaigns before.

You can scale it out by a higher login count, although you might not get too far. Higher logins are alright when you get the right CPMs for them. Higher counts, lower CPM, but lower CTRs. It's a balancing game. Another technique to get a good amount of money from a couple converting ads is to just recreate the ads tens/hundreds of time to multiply the amount of impressions you can get. PoF ads can die quick if you don't rotate them, so you either bleed them dry fast or rotate to keep campaigns alive longer.

Thai beer is crap. Beer Lao is better, but I'm not much of a beer guy. I much prefer a nice prosecco or cocktail.

Affiliate Marketing is never what it used to be. Adapt, Evolve or Die.

I focus mostly on short lead gen CPA offers like what you would find at WSM.

No idea. In the billions I would imagine.

You can't just try one campaign and expect a magic bullet or an instant conversion. How many ads did you put up? How much research did you put into the campaign? How many landing pages do you have rotating? Basically, how much have you really tested?

It can take weeks for many of my campaigns to be profitable, but if I'm not seeing conversions on something I would expect to convert at least once within the first few hours of launching it, I would probably look for other offers or a new niche.

IM is not a get rich quick scheme, and if you think it is, you're horribly mistaken.

Did you ever work in the USA? If you did, did you ever work for

    • [1] reply
    • Probably my blog at justindupre.com. I'm mostly a pure affiliate marketer through direct advertising.

Start with whatever you have the most interest in or the most knowledge in. Find an offer that fits. Doesn't matter where you get it.

Using words like FREE when its not really free. Targetting the wrong demographic, especially targeting too young.

I moved out of the US when I was 18. Only ever worked in restaurants and an amusement park back home.

  • Hi Justin,

    Please answers my questions too.

1.What will you recommend for quality traffic source ? I am a Youtube expert but find it hard for finding ways to promote using Facebook & other sources.

    2. What you think are hot niche rite now ? Which are helping you !

    Thank you !
    • [1] reply
    • I've answered the first question a couple times, but I'll say again, relationships, health and money are the big three that you can take a slice of.

The big search engines, Facebook, places like SiteScout, adult on exoclick, mobile on buzzcity or jumptap are good places to start.
  • First of all congratulations for your success

I started my affiliate business in the beginning of this year. I have written around 15 product review blogs and created more than 100 youtube videos for Clickbank products. 10 of my blogs are on the first positions of search engines with best keywords but i am not getting enough traffic. Just 500 visitors per blog and i am only making $200 a month.

I am not sure whether i am missing something or do i need to give more time to my review blogs to become popular on the internet? It will be great if you answer this question of mine.

    Thanks in advance

    • I honestly don't do SEO, ever. I let my content generate traffic on its own through word of mouth. I'm sure some of it is through search, but it's been months since I've checked analytics.

If things aren't converting for you, these are the things I nail it down to:

      - Poorly Targeted
      - Ad Copy isn't hooking into the target or not enough presell
      - Crap offer

And again, SEO/organic traffic is not my main focus, so I really know very little on the subject. 95% of the money I make is from buying traffic and sending it to CPA offers.
  • first of all thank you much for sharing your valuable experience and time..actually i am looking to promote adult cpa offers..can you please suggest me best and responsive traffic source for adult offers,,,thanks in advance...

with $3000 to test what are a few good CPA ad networks you would recommend to start?

do i need to buy a domain related to the product that i am choosing to drive traffic to?
ie: jewishgirls4fun.com and then design 5-10 simple targeted ads?

should i have numerous domains or just design different landing pages to test on one domain until i find a winner?

test ads until i find a winner and then max out the volume to the winner and wash rinse repeat to other networks?

reinvest in cpvlabs and do it again?
      • [1] reply
  • Would it be profitable if I use a Facebook Fan Page tailored to the niche that I am in and use ppv traffic to promote the page.
  • Justin, thanks for the tips. I would like to know if there is a place where I can find the different pay platforms to use, such as CPVlabs etc.. all in one basket, the pros and cons of each.
    • [1] reply
    • I can't answer that question. Could it be possible? Sure, anything is possible.

Will it be profitable for sure? Depends how you market it, who your targeting, what you copy is.

One thing you need to note is PPV pop sizes. Max around 700 x 500 and smaller depending on browser and how a user has it laid out.

CPVLab is a tracker. It's the one I use and recommend for general testing outside of mobile, which there are better trackers for. I don't know any side-by-side comparisons of them, but going to each tracker page and figuring out for yourself should take you less than an hour to decide what you need.
  • Is CPVLab worth the investment compared to using other free / less expensive tools?
  • Also, how long do you test campaigns for before making judgements on which one is better to use / pursue?
    • [1] reply
    • Yes.

Depends on the offer. A 5 dollar payout or lower will get around 50 - 100$ of testing. Here, I'm not looking for profit, but more so consistency in conversions.

A higher payout offer around 30 - 50$ would get at least a couple hundred to test. Offers in the hundreds would take around $1k to get a good test on.

I don't have a formula, but it averages out to around 5x the payout with a minimum of $50.
  • Congratulations Justin for your success.
May you make many many more money in future and succeed in life.
  • Justin,

Thanks for the quick response and insights man. One last question, how long do you split test ads to see how their conversions/ctr pan out?

    Regards,
    Adam
    • [1] reply
    • A couple days minimum, usually during the middle of the week where conversion are better for most of what I do. However, this changes niche to niche, technique to technique, source to source, etc to etc, so test them a few different days of the week and track days and times of day that you get the best cvr.
  • hey justin,

what would you like to say about incentivized cpa? how big is this market and can you tell me something about its future trends? (by incentivized i dont mean content locking)

  • Hey Justin,

want to get your thoughts on CPA network approval. As a newbie, what do you recommend? What is the best way to get approved on the major CPA networks? Is there a trick or technique to best qualify? How can you prove that you are legit and serious as a beginner?

I have the money, know a lot about IM, SEO, building sites/landing pages, etc.... but not much experience in the CPA affiliate marketing space.

    any thoughts or tips?

Appreciate it and congrats to your success!

  • I have a gaming niche wordpress blog. Can i use 1 domain for run different niche cpa offer landing page (landing page in sub directory). Is domain name have any role in landing page (PPC Promotion Method).
Using a niche blog + prosper202 + cpa offer landing page in 1 domain is good or bad?

    For example

    www.example.com - Gaming Niche blog

    www.example.com/best-buy-gift-card.html - CPA Landing Page
    www.example.com/payday-loan.html - CPA Landing Page

    • It's best to buy a domain for every niche you want to run. I have broad niche domains, then for campaigns that do well, they get tested on more specific domains. Believe it or not, it can make a difference on your CTR and conversion rate.

It is lucky to read your msg today, my problem is not like others, i start 5 months full time (6-9 hrs/day) mostly doing with Clickbank affiliate, have 2 websites, promote over 10 products category:cooking, fitness..traffic not much sometimes reach over 300/day and other times is few lessss, 200 comment on my blogs...final i get NO sale, no conversion sale rate. At teh beginning i did PPC, after money gone no sale get. Then i keep it natural, i know i maybe do thing wrong but i never know what,
Your advise is much worthy and helpful for me, thank much.
  • Hi Justin,

Thanks for your previous reply, much appreciated.

Another question... do you ever use FB pages to promote CPA offers? What about driving cheap traffic to FB fan pages and then driving the fans to the CPA offer? You ever experiment with this?

    Any thoughts?
  • Hi Justin,

Why do you not reply to emails? I sent a couple to contact@yourname.com (where yourname is your name) and got no response.
  • how do you usually build back link?
    do you use cookie stuffing.?
  • what angles do you look at when starting a PPV campaign
  • I have a squeeze page for dating niche, how to promote it? PPC or Free traffic?
  • Can anyone get in touch with him?

I added him on Skype, try to get him to chat for 3days...and nothing.

I think it is NOT the right way of doing, I want to talk about his coaching and nothing.
    • [1] reply
    • You have to be careful with this. Facebook cracks down on affiliates running pages plastered with mostly just affiliate spam. If you can create a legitimate page and every once and a while drop in links to a blog post you wrote about a great new book or product in your niche, that's usually the best way to circumnavigate those issues.

I hadn't heard of it. Been to a couple meetups in Bangkok, but they were poorly run and most of the people there weren't really the successful entrepreneurs I'd expect from a meetup.

Cookie stuff is blackhat and illegal in many areas. I don't do SEO and I don't cookie stuff.

Demographics, first, usually. Broader reach than targeting specific niche sites.

I don't reply for several reasons:

      A) I have no idea what you might want. Saying Hi and then expecting a quick reply is not the way I do business. State what you want, give me some details, and I'll be more likely to reply.

      B) If you are an unfamiliar name or in an area known for its spam (India included), you really have to push to reach me. Sorry, but I can't spend time reading and replying to everyone that comes to me to ask a question like "How can I PPC!!>!>!!>!!<!<!<!!?!?!?!?????". I also get a bunch of freeloaders asking for free indepth coaching advice and SEO service spammers message me from India, China, Russia, etc. I've also had the highest chargeback percentages from these areas on my services, so its really hard to do business.

Yes, I discriminate, but in order to keep my business and time on track, I have to.

      C) If you have poor English skills, I might be less likely to reply. I typically don't coach those that can't string together a good English sentence. If you can't write a basic English sentence without a glaring grammar issue, you won't be able to write to English markets without extensive assistance, which I can't help anyone with.

      D) I might not be in front of the PC. I leave my 3 PCs on 24/7 to aggrigate data and scrape information. Power going out can wipe any Skype logs, and I tend to only check Skype a few times a day unless I have a scheduled call. I am not a robot and don't have the ability to check Skype 24/7.

If you really need to reach me and have a specific question or need specific information from me, you can email me and be as direct as possible, please.

I'm a guy that just likes to get down to business without the BS and formalities of typical conversation. I appreciate when people are frank, open and straightforward and down to the point with me.

  • Very nice results! I want to ask where you send all the traffic you receive? On some website with banners, promotion?
  • Thats very impressive and a very nice success story, my bad luck that i have noticed this thread lately. I have one question though, do you link to offers directly or through a reference landing page?
I am following your blog right now.
    • [1] reply
    • Both these are exactly the same questions. Most of my traffic goes to a landing page of some sort. Some are squeeze pages, some are blogs, some are direct linked (but not many). It all depends on the traffic source and the offer I'm running. Some offers perform better without an LP, some need an LP. If you plan on getting into AM, be sure to test both, but I can tell you that in 80% of all campaigns I've run, they do best with a landing page. Sometimes you may have to test 10s of LPs until you find one that works with your offer.

Im very new to affiliate marketing and need all the help I can get to get me off to the right start, I have only a budget of $100 so are there any ways of advertising for free or anything as there seems to be a lot out there but a lot of them seem to be scams.

Would appreciate any insight to getting started

    thanks joe

    • I wouldn't get into any paid advertising until you have a couple thousand ready to go. You can always start with blogs, I suppose. Or you could learn a new skill while you save up. Programming skills will help you go much further if you can pick some of those up, or write your own automation programs.

  • Hi,

I'm already accepted into some CPA networks, but I have only access to a couple of CPA offers.

Never got any responses from some other networks.

I have some budget and plans to start,

And I can find a lot of great offers via OfferVault.com,

but the problem is that these offers' networks are hard to get into, without any website etc. it's almost impossible to get accepted to most of them, they want you to have website with tons of traffic.

But without monetizing my traffic with CPA offers, why should I spend a lot of money or time to drive tons of traffic to an empty store?

Do you think it's wise to look at the offers at OfferVault first, then make a plan and build the marketing instruments (website, auto-responders etc.)

and then apply the networks when everything is ready?

I feel that when starting up with affiliate marketing, there's a vicious circle:

    1) To get accepted to the CPA offers, you need to first have a website with tons of traffic

    2) To have a website with tons of traffic, you need to have a lot of money first

    3) To get a lot of money, you need to have your traffic monetized with CPA offers to be able to pay your traffic

    4) To be able to monetize your traffic with CPA offers, you need to first get accepted into CPA networks and get access to the CPA offers first

    5) To get accepted to the CPA offers, you need to first have a website with tons of traffic

    6) To have a website with tons of traffic, you need to have a lot of money first

    7) To get a lot of money, you need to have etc. etc.

How to break this vicious cycle if you don't have a tons of money to start with?
    • [1] reply

    • Most networks just want to know that you're not going to be a scammy blackhat scumbag. Create more or less a marketing agency website for your business. On it, talk about services you provide to clients like PPC Campaign Management on multiple traffic sources like Google or Facebook. What gets me in is my blog. It shows I'm knowledgeable and have the ability to purchase and drive traffic to a networks offers.

And the biggest thing you can do to get accepted is be persistent. Call on a daily basis. Send emails daily. Come off like a knowledgeable person, and let them know your intent on how you plan on driving traffic. With some basic research this isn't hard.

I find it funny how many people complain about this, then complain that they don't want to call a network, so don't be one of those people. This is not an independent, do it all on your own industry like some might make you believe. Relationships are a huge part of making it big here.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • Which paid traffic source would you recommend for someone looking to drive traffic to a squeeze page in the health market. From my understanding most ppc networks like bing and facebook are not that keen on squeeze pages these days (although I may be wrong). I was looking at ppv for this purpose as well but the cpm's seem high for ppv, so i'm not sure this is a good traffic source for someone new to paid traffic.

  • "AM has risks. It's much like a casino, but the risks can be lessened through a lot of research. I have no magic bullets that can tell you there is a quick way to break even or make a profit other than working your butt off for it, reading into your targeting and learning how to write solid copy. It will also take a lot of trial and error and some money. If you can't come to grips and accept the risks any true businessman takes (Loss of everything, money, time, even relationships), stick to pushing papers or flipping burgers. That's a lot easier, too. "

What the hell does that mean? Not everyone doing IM was at some point uneducated, homeless, dropped out of college, etc. (even though the salespage headlines believe you to think that) OR maybe they were? It is true most people doing IM are doing it because of being too lazy to go to college and get a degree (seems your response implies it - flippin' burgers). There are quite a few degrees where $100K+ is guaranteed upon graduation. In IM, the chance of making that kind of money is slim to none (ie., only about 3% even make it at all). With a degree, there is no magic bullet needed and no major risks.
  • I am looking to find someone on Fiverr to post in FB and on twitter. i am looking for someone to write several post for the business I am promoting. I have messaged a couple of people on Fiverr and I have not gotten a response back from either person. Any suggestions?
    • [1] reply
    • I would probably recommend PPV. They're the most open to health, but it really depends what you are doing. SiteScout could be an option, too.

I said flipping burgers or pushing papers for another person as they are 10x easier than trying to start a business for yourself in IM or any other industry for that matter. I wasn't calling people stupid - I was letting people know what they need to know before they think getting into IM thinking it is "easy". I know a lot of "gurus" tout that their products and services are all push button, 1 day profit systems. Those don't exist. It doesn't matter if you are flipping burgers or have a position at a big, steady company - those jobs will always be an easier way to make money and part of that reason is, yes, the stability.

I wouldn't say it doesn't have major risks, though. Businesses close down left and right, competitors get squeezed out, downsizing, etc.

I think you read too far into that whole statement. I wasn't calling people stupid nor did I call out educated vs uneducated people. Just that IM is harder than anything else I've done in my life.

Sorry, I don't use Fivrr all that often.

  • Lists are def. the way to go. They are expensive assets to build, but reward you in the long run.
    • [1] reply
    • probably need to highlight that word there...ASSET

I agree, having a list, it doesnt matter if you CPA offer dies, get cancelled, your website goes down, banned, sandboxed or delisted from the engines...you still have your number 1 asset, your list.

People do not understand it even years after I started I did not build a list. When i did, things changed very fast.
  • Hi justin.
I'm very new to IM.Your introduction was quite inspiring to me.I'm not currently making anything yet but I'm learning about the going at my own pace.I seem to learn something new everyday. Thanks for letting me see that one can live on doing online marketing.Thanks.

  • Getting 100% ROI to our campaigns is easy or hard?

Learning PPC or PPV. Which method better in 2013?
    • [1] reply
    • I don't find anything I do "easy". The competition these days is very high. Time to time I catch onto a campaign that flukes out and has an amazing ROI with my first ad, but it isn't as simple as it used to be when I started 5 years ago. Basically, if you are looking for easy guaranteed money, it isn't going to be in paid advertising.

PPC = Pay Per Click. This term is very broad. I'm going to guess you mean search PPC. But you could also say social/FB PPC, display PPC, etc. Use proper terms like SEM (Search Engine Marketing) or Search PPC, or the name of the platform you want to advertise on.

I don't do a whole lot of search, but I know its very similar to PPV campaigns where you only target keywords or keyphrases. PPV might be a bit more simple and forgiving, but neither is better than the other. Spend a few hundred on both and see which one gives you the better impression.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Please suggest me some good automation tools so that I can grow my business.

I have already bought Scrapebox, TheBestSpinner, GScraper and just looking some other softwares so that I can automate the process.

Please help as I am new into affiliate marketing..
  • Justin, with FB ads, what would be the best way to get my CTR's up? Right now i can't seem to go above 0.07-0.08%, i'm testing pics daily with red/yellow borders...at a bid slightly above the 1.08$ min recommended.
    • [1] reply
    • At that point, your best bet is to either get something that you need automated custom made for you, or get employees to run more instances of this software for you. Sounds like you are doing SEO which is something I don't do.

Test a ton of images. You're not going to get a .07% up to .09+ easily. My biggest campaigns burn through about 50 - 100 images per day, and not many do well, but the ones that do easily make up for the losses generated on the poorer performing images.
  • hey justin! love your articles and how you're helping everyone out.
quick question. how many hours did you spend, studying and investing in knowledge with internet marketing when you were first starting out? was it "i locked myself in my room for days" kind of deal ? i'd love to know.
  • What are the things keep in mind while selecting Domains for CPA Niche (Landing Page Domain)
    • [1] reply
    • It was really like - Alright, I'm done reading about it, I know the risks, and I'm ready to take them... I just need to do it. I was a freelance writer for a good few months that helped me build capital and knowledge. I then turned to writing for my own blogs and when I wasn't satisfied with the results of SEO (I was honestly tired of writing with 0 immediate results), I spent a month or so reading about social marketing, ppc and just dove in one day. When I started making $100+ a day I really dug in and saw the potential and it was almost like I would lock myself in 10+ hours a day.

I would start with something broad that could be applied to any niche for a testing domain. Something like "SuperDuperGreatDeals.com" - just an example, not one I use, but as you can see it can be used for almost any niche as its very general.

When you have a campaign that starts to stick out above the rest, buy a more specific domain, maybe one related to the offer specifically or your top performing target/keywords.

Once you start optimizing and making a major profit, but up 10 more domains and split test your best landing page across them all.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Winning keywords while testing a new cpa offer is stable or not? Finding winning keywords and invest money for this winning keyword is correct or wrong.
  • Hi and hello to everybody in the forum. I have a pretty simple question I hope. What in your opinion would be the best channels to start advertising a new travel affiliate program specialised in ski holidays and travel.
    • [1] reply
    • I'm guessing you're asking if you get a keyword profitable, will it be stable? Well, that is up to the offer and it is why you should use tracking. This allows you to see over a period of time when you convert, whether conversions go up and down, etc. But generally, if I find a winner, I continuously work on it. No reason not to!

Most likely search. PPV is a possibility if you can interupt on checkout pages with things like "WAIT! We have a better deal for the same holiday/travel package!" You want people that are already sure to buy if you go this route. I think this would be a harder to do on places like Facebook where I would go if you are going for branding/reach.
  • 01) How many landing pages and Ad copy should use for test an offer?

    02) For a $5 offer, how much we spend for testing?

    03) 7Search have its own keyword research tool and also we can see the bid cost and position. Is this function available in all PPC networks. How to decide a bid cost of a keyword - With the research inside PPC networks tools or any other keyword tools like Adwords Keywords research

    04) How much keywords should use for test an offer? After getting profitable keywords do u again look for some more profitable keywords. Or stick with existing profitable keywords. Normally how much winning keywords we need?
  • Everyone says we must use a landing page. For example in a dating offer its destination page should always looks better and also in that page we can see the signup form. So why we put a landing page for this offer. How landing page gives more conversion than direct linking? I look so many landing pages for a dating offer, In my view i like dating site's landing pages than other landing pages. So please explain the concept behind this
    • [1] reply
    • The idea behind a landing page is that you "pre-sell" the offer before the user is sent to the email submit form.

This is where your job as a marketer comes in.... you have to add value to the sales funnel.
      • [1] reply
  • When we search Top CPA marketers (5 Figure to 6 Figure Income) only few names are popular like you. So actually few markets making the most or majority of marketers make from CPA silently
  • Hi Justin, when you talk about using a landing page for your CPA offer, do you use an iframe or just page that someone would click through to the actual offer page...
    • [1] reply
    • I do not use iFrames. Using iFrames is only okay if an advertiser allows it, as it can be a simple way to create fraud. Think about using an email submit offer for free mcdonalds, but iframing just the submit button and email field on to a page to see free pornography or really anything you want to bend that to.
  • Hi Justin,
Which one is better for list building, solo ads or ppc? Both of them go directly into squeeze page with opt-in. My niche is MMO.
    Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Both can be great. Try them and find out which one gives you a better ROI. If they both give positive ROIs, use both.
      • [1] reply
  • I'd start with some of the marketing forums, blogs at affposts.com or test the waters. The best way to gain experience is to just try it!

  • I am a regular reader pf CPA blogs. In that blogs they says that everyone loss money in the starting stage of CPA. Due to lack of knowledge we may lose money. But after a better experience can we make sure we will not lose money. (I mean we can find converting keywords) Is CPA profit depend upon any % of luck. Or 100% profit depend upon our dedication, Knowledge and experience
  • I like to know the flow of CPA campaign. Below i add the flow. Is this correct. If no will you please correct..

Login to cpa ====> choose the verticals we like ====> pick the offer ====> decide the traffic source and ad network ====> Create a landing page ====> Login to Ad network ====> Adding title, description, country, url etc ====> Choose keyword and spend 1X of the offer payout to this (Testing) ====> Set budget ====> Run ..

After that pick the converting keywords ====> Remove non conversion keywords ====> invest $$$$$ to the converting keyword ====> Watch the Cash Flow
    • [1] reply
    • Don't forget to test your landing pages and keep optimizing your ads!
  • There is nothing you can do to guarantee that your campaigns will make money off the bat. You can reduce your risks by doing more research, but there is no way to ever know that it will make money or lose money before testing it. You can get lucky, but it isn't common.

      • [1] reply
  • Do you collect the surfers email address on your landing pages?

I hear so many people do that and that's the way to make real money on POF, but i check out all my competition and none of them are collecting email addresses from their landing pages - they're just sending the surfer straight to the offer.
    • [1] reply

  • I have a large facebook group that I admin. I would like to post CLOAKED vitamin supplement affiliate links with linktrackz. Can you tell me is it possible to do this without getting penalized, etc? How would facebook even know its an affiliate link since its cloaked? • Hi Justin, I noticed some of the downloaded squeeze pages do not have opt-in boxes, just a sign graphic. Also others do not ask for name, just for an email. Is it safe to say on some offers you do not collect emails at, just link them to the offer from the squeeze page. Also others you dont get their name just email?
  • How much days we spend as a Testing to pick converting keywords. How long the converting keywords alive? Do u face any problem while scale the converting keyword , I mean while scale the converting keyword getting result as non converting
    • [1] reply
    • Does it really worth it, so many people spend countless hours and so few get real reward from it.
  • Testing can take anywhere from minutes to days depending on the volume, offer, bids, time of day, day of the week, month of the year, etc. Typically, I'll spend 2-3x the offer payout on any individual target or ad.

I've had campaigns last 1 hour, and campaigns that have lasted over 2 years without much in the way of management. Eventually ads and targets may dry up. Putting them on pause or rotating in new ads or offers can help alleviate this issue.

If you find keywords/targets suddenly stop converting after going strong and healthy, you might be getting scrubbed. Talk to your affiliate network about this or test the offer on another network.

  • Hi,

I am into CPA marketing and i am interested in promoting dating offers through facebook. I have created a landing page and cloaked affiliate links in the landing page and there i send traffic from facebook to my landing page.

For indian traffic i get 0% ROI means i spent $67 and got $67.566
So, i thought indian traffic is not good and promoted US dating offer for US people with a different landing page.

Here i lost around $39 and didn't got any leads.

    Can you help me?
  • 0% ROI for a first try is good. I commonly lose money with any new campaign. Test more. More images, more landing pages, different ad copy, split test different offers. Track to find which ones convert the best and stick with those.
  • Thanks for your reply. But my affiliate program require atleast 4% conversions to sales, if not my payments will be suspended. I am worried that indian traffic rarely converts. So, i would like to try US traffic. But, i lost around $30+ with it, what kind of landing page do i need to have for US traffic. Can you help me?
  • If you are going to cry about $30, there isn't much I can do to help you. You are going to need to invest at least $50 - 100 per day to learn how to develop and test landing pages on your own. A landing page isn't the answer to all your prayers. You also have to think about your targeting, offers, ads, times of day, day of the week, week of the month and month of the year when running any ad. If you don't have the capacity to stomach losses, you're not in the right industry. I take heavy losses whenever I start a new campaign, but over time I optimize my campaigns, take out ads, landing pages, targeting and offers that don't convert and start making my money lost back.

You're going to have to invest a bit more in data to see results basically.
    • [2] replies
    • Hi,

Thank you very much for your answer. Yes, i am willing to spend $50-100 a day. But, i am not good at creating good landing pages. So, should i just redirect the traffic to affiliate links instead of my own landing page?
    • What a huge money to spent.
$50 - $100 per day is a huge money for me.
Not to mention that i only get most $10 per day..

  • Hey Justin,

When first testing the 50+ different images/headlines/etc. on Facebook, how much money do you spend on each ad to have enough data to determine if the ad is performing any good? $1, $10, $100?

Furthermore, do you use Facebooks Optimized CPM at all?
  • Justin, thanks for the wealth of information. Can you tell me a little about what education you had in IM prior to getting your feet wet? If I dedicate 5-6 hours of work a day , as a beginner, would you expect a reasonable ROI or is it more of a situation like no matter the time spent you just have to find what works and there's no guarantee? Also, if I don't have the initial bare $2000 to invest, what would be your second best option for someone with a lot of passion a dedication to succeed but not as much start up capital? Thanks again,
    -Roberto

    • Sorry for the late replies! Been super busy lately with new businesses and clients!

They're really no different from each other. Use whatever one you like more.

It's usually best to start off with landing pages. You don't have to be amazing at writing HTML to make a basic landing page that works. With 10 hours of HTML training you should be able to put something together that works.

Around 1 - 3 dollars per each ad when just testing. Some images don't get clicks and I run CPC so they don't spend anything. But it averages out to about those numbers for quick tests.

There isn't much guarantee if you don't have any previous experience. I dove in head first when I got started with AM and was lucky to build up campaigns early before AM was as competitive as it is now. The only real thing that's changed then from now is that you have more traffic sources ready for advertisers now, which is a good thing so I think now is a great time to get started in it. You can always dedicate that time to free methods of promotion until you've got a better base capital built up, or use that time to freelance for other marketers. I know doing freelance writing back in the day is what helped get me to my level now.

Do you have a few campaigns which brings in about 80%+ of your income?

Or do you have a more balance mix of a lot of smaller campaigns bringing together a lot of money.

Is it a matter of quantity (a lot of campaigns to earn a lot) or a few very good ones ("optimal" optimized) campaigns?

Do you still go country's which not so much traffic because it all adds up. Or you focus on those few which can bring in a lot?

  • Hello everyone,

I don't know if you have any experience on the other side of affiliate marketing but:

I'm currently an Advertiser on Linkshare and EEAN and while I a few hundred affiliates, I can't seem to get them active. I'm not getting any clicks or conversions.

How do I motivate people to promote my site.

I'm currently offering 10% base commission with a tiered commission that quickly works its way up to 18%.

Also, some specific products I'm offering up to 30%

Can anyone give me some advice on what I can do?

  • Honestly, a lot of newbies can learn more by reading such an insirational topics with Q and A such as this is, than to buy a lot of BS ebooks.
Don't buy books from so called "Gurus" , find your own guys. browse these forums and find a guys like Justin Dupre or Kenster or William, then start to learn from there.

it is a lot of trials and errors involved. Yes, you can start small, but you can't start with no money. A 700-1000$ budget should be enough for the start, I'm telling you this honestly. Don't believe in ebooks where they "teach" you how to make money with no money...

    • If you can PM me I'll let you know where to find more details. I don't think this thread is the appropriate place to cover it.

    • I'm sorry but this is just to broad of a topic to cover. There are so many ways you can get started with affiliate marketing. Read these forums, read my blog, read others affiliate marketing blogs and pick a traffic source or method you want to get started with. Focus on it until you master it. I'm not sure what else I can tell you.
  • For PPV,

do you suggest I bid on Keywords or URL's or both?
  • Both.

Keywords are great for niche/categorically targetting things.
URLs are good for the above as well as demographic targetting, which is really where the money is at.

    • I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know about developing your own app or advertising on them? What was working before is still working as far as advertising.
  • Hi

Need sugesstion Regarding Affiliate program for Movie downloading site

I have a website with 2000 daily traffic from US.I need to start affiliate program on it.Can you recommend me any good program.

    I have seen programs like ilivid,flv,online games,setc.

How can i earn money from my website?

    Thanks
  • I'm sorry if this question has already been answered, after the first two pages my mind went numb.

Whats a typical LP CTR on POF? I can't seem to get anything to stay above 35%. I'm profitable there, but if I could increase it another 10-15% it'd be massively profitable.

The campaigns are built as you and others have suggested with ultra tight targeting. The campaigns themselves only pull 10-20k imps/day, but have CTR's from .2 - .5 %.

I've split tested 21 LP's over the course of the last month, and sent 50-100 clicks per LP per campaign.

What else am I missing? Am I just stuck at +60% ROI?

Do you have any suggestions as far as LP designers? I know some affiliates love to send their designers business and others don't.
  • Hey Justin,

I am hearing a lot about you. By seeing your thread title, i would like to ask one question to you.

Currently i am into media buying and generating around 20 sales per day. I am into direct media buying and bought every impression they have. FYI i am advertising in two sites only.

Now, i wanted to scale this up, the niche is "weight loss".

My landing page is not adwords friendly, so don't stand a chance in advertising in adwords. But besides, i know there are other big networks like Tribalfusion, conversant media, and other RTB platforms like Appnexus, Rubicon etc.

Can you suggest me how to get started in scaling up my campaign with minimal risk?

    Regards

    • Can't you scale by finding other similar sites and buy inventory from them?

  • Hello,

Just setup a small site based around a popular weight loss product. Is PPV a good idea for driving traffic and making conversions? Not direct linking to my site but using landing pages.

    cheers.
  • Hi Justin, i subscribed to your forum which you closed down after a few months. I would like my subscription to be refunded as the forum site has been completely shutdown and there was no news or any sort of compensation for this...please respond.

  • Hello Justin I have a question about a few things?

1.Where Can I Find A Cheap or Free Internet Marketing Mentor???

I Had A Mentor I Found via Facebook using Facebook Graphing but he fed me outdated and old info...

    2. What are some good CPA websites that you don't need to have a site for?

    3. I am currently running some campaigns for PPC I always see the Destination URL box but Im not sure how to hook my landing page up to get approved by the search engines and get a good quality score.....I know your supposed send people to your landing page with the destination url BUT when doing this Do you need your own site with hosting??? or can you use a parked domain to forward it to the landing page or use a 301 redirect to the landing page? and if you use a 301 redirect to the landing page do you use temporary or permanent?

4.Why is it such a secret that internet marketers dont want to share exactly how they do things when it comes to advertising and making money online?

    5. Is there any good legit programs such as Empower Network, Internet Lifestyle Network or Am I better off affiliate marketing and making my own products?

6.Are There Any Good Internet Marketing CHAT ROOMS? Other that Wealthy Affiliate Which requires you to pay $50 a month..

Thank You In Advance I been searching everywhere to be able to ask some questions for clairification but everyone shuns you unless your talking about paying $2,000 for a internet marketing class.

I swear money is the root of all evil and in this business I learned its cut throat, do whatever it takes to get to the top and not care about anyone else for the most part. You seem different and I thank You For that.
  • Hello Justin, I am trying to get started with affiliate marketing. Any tips on the best way to get started. I am a fish out of water when it comes to this topic. All I do know at this point is to post as many ads as I can. Are the free sites ok to start with or is that a waste of time? I figure researching is also key but I'm having a hard time with that, I guess because of the subject ( webcam models & agent recruitment). I've tried looking into it but i suppose I'm wording my questions wrong or just not asking the right ones. For instance I tried looking to see what countries have low employment rates, so I could post ads for those countries. Please forgive me if this question is minor, I just want to know if I'm on the right track. The company I work with really doesn't offer any pointers, tips, ect. Any genuine answer are greatly appreciated!

    • @nessa11 - dont waste your time with him,
He has not refunded the 'lifetime membership' fees of his forum and didn't respond appropriately when I asked him about it.
There are more reliable marketers out there. eg charlesngo.com
