Accurate Local KW Stats

Maybe one of you can clear this up for me.

If I look in the Google KWT at a search term with a city name before it, for example "Miami Plumbers" it will show, as long as there are searches, the number of people who looked for this term (exact match).

However, if you live in Miami and just search for plumbers, chances are you will see and possibly select one of the local sites.

This would mean that the stats for this local search does not reflect all the people who did not preface their search with the city name. Making local search stats very unreliable.

Is this the case? Are there better ways to see how many local searches there are.

    Marty,

The easiest way to monitor volume of searches, sources of these searches, and the keywords used (if they are coming from organic search) is via Google Analytics. There is, of course, the problem of (not supported) data, but if your volumes are considerable, this shouldn't be such a major issue.

If you want really accurate statistics on impressions (for keyword research), the best way is to use Google AdWords (not the tool, but to actually pay for a small AdWords campaign in order to check what users are searching for).
