12 Step Blueprint - Making Money with CPA

I have found a formula that has been working for me with a CPA offer. As of April 4th, 2009, here are my stats:

Week 1 - $110
Week 2 - $160
Week 3 - $230

We have just started Week 4, my weeks are from Sat - Fri and I am at $90 this week. The site has been growing each and every week as you can see and with minimal more promotion from me.

Total earnings: $590.00 in 23 days and counting (5/4/09)

The site is on track to make over $750 for its first full month.

Given all of the great information I have received from the Warrior Forum, I would like to share my blueprint so others can be successful too.

Here are the 12 steps that I took and what I did to set things up:

  1. Select CPA offer to market
  2. Conduct Keyword Research to identify good trafficked keywords with low competition (Select 5 - 10 good keywords) I usually try to find a keyword that has at least 100 visitors a day with less than 50,000 competitors
  3. Register your domain name with your best keyword
  4. Setup website hosting
  5. Redirect your domain to your website host
  6. Install a Wordpress blog from cPanel
  7. Setup a category on the blog for each keyword
  8. Setup a post for each keyword (write a quick 200 - 300 word post about the keyword)
  9. Social bookmark main blog web address, bookmark each post as well
  10. Create a video, I used camtasia and did a screen capture, make one for each keyword
  11. Post to YouTube for sure, ( I would use TubMogul and blast it to other sites as well)
  12. Social bookmark each video

This is the blueprint I used to start generating sales within hours of having my site setup.

Please contact me if you have any questions, I would be happy to assist in any way I can.

Very useful 12 steps. I hope I will follow them. The sad part is that many people will read stuff like this say that they are absolutely thrilled about the details step-by-step plan but then again go back to their old ways and never implement what they learned. I hope this will not be the case this time for some people reading this thread.

Yeah I would have to agree with you, I was once one of those people. The Warrior Forum has given me lots of valuable information and what it takes most of the time is to actually apply what you do know. It is amazing once you get moving what you really can do.

      Thanks for the comment.

    • If everyone did what they know they should do, internet marketing, divorce lawyers, and marriage counsellors would all be out of business.

There is a 'step off the cliff' moment that every successful IMer has had. Once you get used to free-fall, everything else is easy.

The original post is a great one. It summarizes what the $5000 guru courses tell you to do. It just doesn't take 75 videos lasting 150 hours (which most buyers don't watch) to do it.

I would have preferred that it not be a '12 step program' though. ;-)

    How exactly does this work:

Don't you need to have an account with each of the sites in order to submit the link, how does it get past that issue ?

      Simon,

You will have to set up an account at each of the social bookmark sites that you use in socialmarker.... a little bit of a pain at first but definitely worth it. After that make sure you bookmark all your posts, articles, videos or any other content.

I have a nice system I use with Roboform, I already have accounts with numerous, I was just a bit confused as that site seems to suggest it can submit for you without creating an account manually initially, I was trying to work out how the hell it does that .

I guess they make that clear once your further in.

      Simon,

At socialposter.com, you don't have to go to the trouble of creating an account at every social media site. You simply copy and paste your URL, Page Title, summary and tags into the fields and select which sites you want to submit to.

Here is another piece of "secret sauce". For the optimal results use your keyword and setup a new account on each of the social bookmark sites. I know this is time consuming, but it works. You don't want to bookmark everything under your own name, you want it related to the keyword. It helps with ranking. Plus it makes it look better than having all of your bookmarks come from your own name.

      Cost Per Action

ie - When the prospect completes an action such as something as simple as submitting their zip code or email address to entering their name, address, and other small details to filling out a complete credit application, etc...

      Regards,

I may have missed something but I don't think you mentioned how this ties into your CPA offer as far as a linking strategy goes. Are you dropping text links at the bottom of each article to a sales page or directly to the offer? Are you putting a link in the video description to your blog, the corresponding keyword article, or directly to the offer? Is your article copy leading people to the offer or just focusing on the keyword?

Bah... I sound like such a newb... probably because I am.

Awesome post though! I'm putting the plan into action tonight. I already have my offer and keyword list together. I just need to know what your linking strategy is. Thanks in advance!

I was new at one time too, and there are lots of things for me to learn as well. Let me do my best to cover your questions.

The video on YouTube will have a link in the text description, it is the first line in the text, and in my video I tell people to clink the link. That takes them to my website which presents the offer, which is free. I have been get a 1:2 ratio. So for every 2 people that visit my website, 1 person goes to the free offer site. Once there, I have been converting at 1:4, so for every 4 people that go, I get a sale or well I make money for them signing up.

If you do an article, yes in your resource box, put a link to your websites sales page, just like the video above. The article copy focuses on the keyword, because that is how I get the traffic to the site. The person is looking for my "keyword", therefore, they read my article.

I have found that the videos get me instant traffic, while the articles give me longevity to keep the site going. I actually have 2 of my sites on the first page of Google with a competition of 440,000.

      I totally agree with HBP.

I read the ebook that HBP linked and I have purchased a few others along the way. Those ebooks coupled with great posts like this one from Keith, always get the gears going in my head. Learning how to brainstorm and expand the ideas that other affiliates provide to you in various ways is a valuable trait to have. It's what seperates the people that are making a few dollars a day from those that are making a few hundred dollars... or a few thousand dollars a day.

My personal sales are still really going slow but I have come up with lots of different ways to boost things. My only problem now is finding the time to set everything in motion. It'll happen though!

I would suggest that you join a few CPA networks and then you can select a CPA offer that you would like to market. As yes, as stated by others, the keyword research is the absolute key to being successful. I am putting together a system that shows how I conducted my research. This system can be used for any type of marketing to expose the best keywords to optimize your success.

Could you clarify this a bit? What type of video do you make? What does it say? What do you show them?

Also, why not just get a domain name and redirect them immediately from the video to your CPA offer? (Are you pre-selling the CPA offer on your blog?)

    Keith,

Thanks for the great blueprint. Quick question though. Considering I do not have Camtasia, is there another method you would recommend (free) for making the videos? Also, what do you include in the video. You have provided so much so far, but some examples would be great. Thanks in advance.

There is a free version of Camtasia available, I believe it is version 3, also the maker of Camtasia, Techsmith released another free producted called Jing that allows for screen capture.

Video content is usually a PowerPoint presentation with detailed information about my offering. So let's say it is about weight loss.

I would have an opening screen with my keyword:

      All Natural Weight Loss

      Loss 10 Pounds a Day

Then I would cover bullet items about the product:

      - All natural made with 100% fruit juices
      - Proven and guaranteed to make you lose 10 pounds a day
      - Free trial offer worth $50

Just cover the items and entice the person to want to come to your website. You must act today as this is a limited time offer that may already be gone, something like that.

      Hope this helps.

I think you might be missing the point of CPA here. It does not matter what my offer is or anyone else's is, the true foundation of any successful campaign, either CPA or affiliate has to do with keyword research and promotion. Find the right keywords for your offer that are not as competitive as others and grab them. Use everything in your power to promote the keywords and your offer will be successful.

                Not true at all.

If the offer doesn't convert, it doesn't convert. You can have the greatest set of keywords under the sun but if the final offer isn't a winner, you're going to fall flat on your face.

As a blueprint, sure, yeah, this is okay. But it's not going to make you successful as an affiliate. This won't teach you the two most important attributes of affiliate marketing; tracking and pre-selling.

As a blueprint, sure, yeah, this is okay. But it's not going to make you successful as an affiliate. This won't teach you the two most important attributes of affiliate marketing; tracking and pre-selling.
I would to track the product in which he is promoting.

                Keith,

My budget is totally non-existent right now and I need to start finding a proven method to help me pull in some cash. I have been promoting CPA offers the past 2 months with no success.

For once I AM going to take your ideas and roll with it, instead of just thinking "that's nice, now onto the next thread to read!".

Thanks for sharing! Bookmarking this thread so I can follow your success and hopefully report some of my own.

        Hi,

I love your success story and really hope i can replicate it one day later.

Based on list in your blueprint, i think i'm quite near to your success as now i also own a website with good rank on Google and Yahoo.

I'm quite familiar with affiliate program but this CPA is something new to me.

With a good trend of traffic to my site nowadays and almost near to zero affiliate commission i have so far, i'm thinking to switch to CPA.

Would you mind to share what are the best CPA for me to join especially if my site is in 'skin care & facial beauty" niche?

        Thanking you in advance.

This is really a good thread.

          Nicola,

There are ways to add the link to the video using YouTube, but the best thing to do is just have your link as the first part of your description.

Not all videos need voice. You could tell a story with words and photos, or if you wanted voice, you could outsource a voice over.

          Hope this helps.

    Keith,

How exactly do you post the CPA offers link in your blog? Do you use anchor text throughout your article or do you place the offer at the end of the article with something like "Click here..."? After years of IM, I still really get confused how to do this best.

    Thanks,

No matter what kind of site you put up, you want to optimize it. Here are some quick SEO tips for any site:

      1. Make sure your keyword is in your page title - I personally make it the only title.
      2. I start the actual page with my keyword and make it an H1 tag
      3. Make sure you use the keyword throughout the content. I try to make sure I have 2-3 paragraph's and I mention the keyword in each one.
      4. What I have been doing recently and it has worked very effectively for SEO ranking is that use anchor text on all of my keywords in my content and link some to my homepage (this is for ranking) and the others to my offer page (this is for sales). You can also put a link in your author box. Typically people who are going to buy will click on the links in your author area. Make is compelling for them to do so.
I am sure we will get other people who suggest other methods. I have found these to work effectively for me.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

In order to create an H1 tag all you have to do it had the following HTML code:

          <h1>TEXT</h1>

          That's it.

So if my title was Best Website Ever, I would use this:

          <h1>Best Website Ever</h1>

          Hope this helps.

    Hi Keith,

Thanks for the quick reply. So let me just clarify. You have your CPA offers linked all over your article body and in your biobox (presumable at the end of the article)? Do you bold the anchor text? Do you just use text links or banners as well? New to CPA so I'm not really sure if some of these offers do have banner ads.

    Thanks again!

Not all over the page, you do not want it to totally look like a link page. I have a few links throughout the page.

The main area is your author box, which is your call to action. You want to make this area your most compelling reason for them to click on the link.

    Great info Keith,

I am actually using the same process for an amazon affiliate product and after 2 weeks of seting up the blog the site went to no. 1 on google page for the keyword I am targeting.

Like some great CPA marketers have said, this process works best only if you could do a thorough keyword research and use your important keyword as domain if it has not been taking then drive traffic through many ways as some described by Keith.

However, My suggestion on this process is: This is the best for newbies to CPA to start with then whenever you hit the jackpot, you can move to PPC - CPA, which is the fastest way to get traffic to CPA offers and make it big.

    Keith,

I would appreciate if you can share a video or something of how to use free camtasia screen capture to do a video and submit to the video submissions. This is an area I have not really capture and I have been spending too much time figuring out how to do that.

Above all, thanks for your info......

    • Just a quick tip for those who want to get stuff done fast, and at little or no cost:

      Google 'firefox capture fox'.

That's a plugin for firefox that will capture your screens/voice to a file that you can edit in one of the free video editors out there (or just use as-is). Submitting is easy if you have the right file format, and they sites will tell you what they want.

Half the videos I see on sites now are a static Powerpoint slide with some guy mumbling in the background. (Me, I speak with authority, like Billy Blanks! )

This could get you going in 10 minutes or less. Camtasia could come later.

Last i checked google keeps a new site from being ranked for several months due to the "sandbox" effect. Are you saying you got ranked within 2 weeks of putting up a brand new site? If so, could you tell us how much daily volume the keywords you targeted are getting? Was this a wordpress blog?

Keith, I looked at your movie in youtube. How do you make money if it has had so few views? The view-count is quite low, and that includes me and your other fans in this forum.

I'm sure some of us in this forum are in your target market, so maybe you made a few pennies from us?

Can a marketing project be successful if so few people watch the video?

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

    Keith,

First thank you for your valuable guide. I have a few questions.

    1. You mentioned you got sales within hours of putting the site up. Is this traffic from social bookmark and tube sites?

    2. Last time i put up a new site it took me at least 3 months to rank for any keywords even though i was indexed within days. How long did it take for this new site of yours to get google traffic on ranked keywords?

    3. you said keywords with 100 daily searches and 50,000 competition. Is this not extremely difficult to find? I have not found one. By competition do you mean google results when typing in the keyword phrase?

AWESOME plan, thanks for this. FYI you could speed up the proccess by using Traffic Geyser, then once you're making enough, just put all your earnings into outsourcing the work. Then you'll be making $0 but at that point you'll only work will be to manage the outsourcing tasks. You're income will start to rise back up with all the leverage you just created for yourself by outsourcing and you'll be working much less and making much more in the long run. :-)

When doing research on keywords you can determine how much traffic a keyword gets by using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Then if you take the same keyword and type it into Google, the # of results is your competition. That is why it is important to target exact match keywords, so you really know what you are dealing with.

Hey keith i just saw your post for your 12 step blueprint and I am very interested in it. Just wondering, what kind of offers are you promoting? For example, how would you make a video for something like a colon cleanse product?

First off, thank you all for the great comments and all of the PM's. I am humbled by all of your messages. glad I could share something of value.

Based on all of the feedback, I have decided to release 3 videos. (No opt-in required - free to all Warrior members) Keep in mind, these videos were part of a product I developed called CPA Success - Cash in Your Pocket Always. The product has never been released to the public and is not for sale.

The 1st video is how I select a CPA offer to market (keep in mind with this video, I talked about a site called MillNic Media, which is not in business anymore, but the general principles still apply.

    The 2nd is keyword research

The 3rd is more keyword research

The keyword research methods can be applied to any internet marketing area to find the best keywords.

I hope this helps all of you out there trying to make some money with CPA.

    Good luck!

    Disclaimer:
These are not the be all end all to CPA marketing, these are the exact steps I use that get results. Are there other methods, sure, there are always other ways to do everything. I am not claiming to be a guru or anything like that, actually I am far from it. Just finding my way through the internet and sharing my experience.

The videos are here on my blog:

If you have any questions, feel free to post in the thread and I will do my best to help you out.

thank you for the detailed post. i have one question that i have been struggling with for a while. i hear people say make a video about the offer your promoting and submit it here and there. now my question is how would you create a video for offers? i mean like for a gift card offer, what would you show on the video? do you just invite people to head on over to your site and enter the email for a chance to win the prize or...
i would appreciated if someone could shed some light on that for me. thank you very much.

That is a possibility, the nice thing is that there are usually other offers that are very similar to promote, so you just plug in the new one. I have done it a number of times.

I just came across this thread - awesome blueprint. I am now starting CPA marketing and am glad to see such a straight forward plan.
      Question:

To quote "I usually try to find a keyword that has at least 100 visitors a day with less than 50,000 competitors "

Is this 50,000 results with quotes or without quotes in Google?

Absolutely, it is a great free alternative. I think you are limited to the length of your video, but you want to keep them short anyway.

      Rich,

I use all different kinds, they can all be effective if implemented properly. A great plugin to use is All in One SEO - does wonders for SEO. You can setup categories in WordPress, so it will help dd another layer of keywords to your site. Good luck. Yes I received your PM, will respond soon.

      Hope this help.

        keithdougherty-

Thank you for starting this thread and sharing your ideas and experience(s). I hope you meet all of your goals and see great success!

I thought I'd post a few questions here since this thread was originally published a year ago.

        Code:
        1) Are you still using this method and finding it to be profitable (especially with regard to newly created websites)?

        2) Has your blueprint changed at all (e.g. have you moved away from social bookmarking or any attempts to drive traffic by way of Youtube videos etc.)?

        3) You were seeing immediate success during your initial 30 days. Assuming that you have stuck with this method and have created more sites, what kind of profits are you seeing today - one year later?

        4) Do you have any other advice/tips/comments that you would like to share with us that might provide additional help and/or differ from what you originally suggested now that one year has passed?
Again, awesome thread - it's very inspiring and helpful for many people.

        Good luck and take care,
