Whats your average Adsense CTR?

I know this question has a ton of variables, but I'm simply looking for a benchmark, even a vague one, to measure against.

For your information sites/blogs, what is your average Adsense page CTR? 2-5% about average?

  • Average for Adsense noobs: Terrible, less than 0.1%.

    Average for people who take a few minutes to optimize placement: maybe 1%.

    Average for well optimized sites: maybe 3%.

    Average for thoroughly-tested made-for-Adsense sites: anywhere from 5% to 25% to maybe even higher.

    The best results I've ever heard of from a real person was a guy who told me that his pages got above a 10% CTR. They were product-focused information pages and the ads were for those exact products.

  • I averaged 15.8% for 350k+ page views over a period of a few months. The site earned me a lot.

    I am now doing another site in the same niche setup exactly the same way targettign adifferent keyword and cant for the life of me work out how to get above 4% CTR. I'm pretty convinced AdSense is just showing a load of crap on my sites these days as the numbers aren't what they once were for me.

    It's not all about placements, but if you set them up well you should be getting 5%+ easily if the ads are relevant.

    Thin layout, with a large adsense rectangle above the fold in the middle as you go down the page.

    That CTR was from over a year ago now tho, i dont have that site anymore. Also these days everyone uses mobiles to view pages, makes it a lot harder to get the same sort of CTR figures in my opinion.

    • Yup, these days mobiles and tablets are becoming a big factor so if we want to keep that CTR up there we have to make sure our sites can 'respond' with the right kind of ads in the right kind of locations to suit the device.

      I'm noticing these days that the 320 x 50 ads and 250 x 250 that I switch in automatically when a mobile device is detected are beginning to get more clicks, so if your site is leaking ctr, maybe take a look at your mobile / tablet strategy too.

  • Mine is only .50% to 70% max . Just wondering how to get higher ctr. If I will get 1% that will be very good for my site.
  • my site is laid out so mobile and tablet users view it exactly the same as a desktop user would. Its a simply designed site so i dont see this as a problem. Last few days i am getting around 8-10% CTR, so it really goes to show what kind of ads show up on my site

    • I would really like to know how to optimize my sites for mobile devices! Where can I find this kind of info?

      Also, about the CTR rate, my sites that have a CTR theme (it is called CTR ) have around a 20% CTR. BUT, everyone one of them had a Google Webmaster 'thin content' warning slapped on them the end of June. Working to re-write my content, but it isn't really thin. Just realistic info about the topic. Weird . . .

      My other non-CTR themed sites average around 3-5% CTR, and non of them have the warning. I am wondering if the theme is why . . .

  • Across the 1,100 sites I own, the overall average is 4.4% network wide. Some produce higher, some lower!

  • My adsense CTR varies. Sometimes it goes around 3 - 4 % and sometimes falls below 1%. Last month it went about 0.5%.
  • Are any of you with less than 5 percent actually doing anything to improve your CTR? Why people accept such low figures is beyond me unless they are monetizing the same pages in other ways.

      But of course it depends by your niche. With niches where go people in needing to buy as soon as possible (like mine) of course the CTR is higher than other niches where people mostly is looking for informations.

      I have a very new site with... 78% CTR, but it's just because it's very new, and in the first month I got 9 visits and 7 clicks
  • Its usually between 1% and 3 % for well written websites

  • We get around 3% in the weight loss niche, but not before we tested "every imaginable" ad position...in the beginning, with ads on top and to the side of our content, it was well below 2%...

    • Approximately 13.5% CTR across all my sites. A few years ago that number was closer to 16% (on some days I would get a scary 18-19%) but it has gone down a little and stayed at about 13.5% consistently for the last 3 years.

      I credit my high CTR to experimenting with ad placement, and because I have used 336 X 280 ads almost exclusively, above and below my content.

  • Google doesn't allow the CTR which is more than 10%. If you got more than 10% CTR on regular basis Google can suspend your account.

    2 to 4% CTR is perfect for any website and you can earn good amount if you got good ranking in Google.
  • I have been using Adsense Pro Ultimate theme that gives me around 4% CTR for 2 of my websites. I do agree with kamal that if you have an abnormal CTR then Google may ban you for it, so choose your theme wisely.

    • Hi guys. Which CTR (there are 3 different) is relevant and shouldn't be too high? I can see 3 different CTR values in Adsense for content and our numbers (for last month) are currently:

      Page CTR: 0.85%
      CTR: 0.23%
      Ad CTR: 0.22%

      Last 16 months:
      Page CTR: 0.85%
      CTR: 0.25%
      Ad CTR: 0.25%


      Are this numbers Ok, should they the numbers be lower or can they be higher and what is the % when Google becomes alerted?

  • CTR upto 5 is good. Mine is 3%.
  • Nobody is getting over 20% CTR without some kind of fraud going on.

  • Ironically, back when I made my very first website with Adsense, it had around a 5-6% CTR. I later realized that the design of the pages was so ugly that visitors were just clicking on ads to get off the page as soon as possible.

  • very low with AdSense because they keep giving me generic ads, even though our site has a pretty niched out list of content. I was able to get 7-10% with some native ad groups, but the ppc amount earned was crap.
