What Webhosting?

Hi,

What type of webhosting are you running?

Shared? VPS? Dedicated?

Currently i am on shared and i am receiving around 10k clicks daily and they asked me to change my hosting to VPS.

Do you guys face any of this problems?

  • I want to know the same thing.... Is it better to have a VPS? Why?

  • Get a VPS server with Solid State Drive (SSD) storage.

    They load suppppper fast! I like LiquidWeb and BeyondHosting.

  • Thanks for the info greedy. What about MediaTemple and WPEngin? You ever use those? Are they any different or better/worse than BeyondHosting and/or LiquidWeb?

    • The only time you'll really notice a difference with SSD is when your websites are extremely SQL intensive. Other than that, it's mainly a "placebo effect".

      What types of sites are you looking to run? Are you sure you need a virtual server? The only reason really for a virtual server is root access and the need to use non-standard extensions, libraries etc.

      You'll notice here that many people will "blindly" tell you to get a VPS or dedicated server when chances are you just need a better web host.

  • Personally, I've done a lot of speed test of VPS with SSD drives and they have always out-preformed shared servers for me.

    Typically around 3x faster load times on various different types of pages. (Wordpress Blogs, Landing Pages/Squeeze Pages, and Tracking)

    Here is what I have tested...

    HostGator Shared (Non-SSD) vs. LiquidWeb VPS SSD
    HostGator VPS (Non-SSD) vs. LiquidWeb VPS SSD
    BlueHost Shared (Non-SSD) vs. LiquidWeb VPS SSD
    GreenGeeks Shared (Non-SSD) vs. LiquidWeb VPS SSD
    HostGator (Non-SSD) vs. BeyondHosting VPS SSD
    HostGator VPS (Non-SSD) vs. BeyondHosting VPS SSD
    BlueHost Shared (Non-SSD)vs. BeyondHosting VPS SSD
    GreenGeeks Shared (Non-SSD)vs. BeyondHosting VPS SSD

    Clearly there is a lot of variables to in, the CPU and RAM all were pretty similar.

    But ever since I saw this case study I spent a lot of time really looking into improving my load times...

    So I am not one of those to blindly recommend a VPS, and for me it the SSD wasn't much of placebo effect when comparing. But maybe that is just me and comparing bad hosting.

    I've never heard of MediaTemple and WPEngin.

    Anyways, I am happy with my LiquidWeb SSD VPS now.

    • You are Blindly recommending it because neither one of the OP or the last person has given any details on their site.

      You're alsom comparing oversold & overloaded "HostGator" OpenVZ VPS's against SSD nodes... Of course it's going to be faster. Then shared traditional vs virtual SSD. Those aren't real "tests".


      Compare a Xen or KVM virtual server running on RAID10 w/ 15K SAS drives against an SSD VPS running a comparable array, then report back with your findings.

      SSD isn't the "end all be all" for hard drives. Fortunately, still, spindle based drives have more fault tolerance and recoverability when it comes to failures.

      You're comparing all these "unlimited" hosts against premium providers such as LiquidWeb. Of course the reports are going to be different.. :rolleyes:

      Here's a good one: compare companies such as RamNode - LiquidWeb - VPS.net - etc. Or get your own physical node loaded with SSD's and compare. Are you running tests such as unixbench or looking at the iops? Probably not..

    It really dpeends on how much resource you're using. Are you sending them to a landing page, website or is it simply a redirect?

    you should probably move to a VPS; we have found regarding VPS you might want to try out MDDHosting (Excellent service, slightly higher pricing). We have also seen that FutureHosting is a well priced and fast servers.

    We have personally used HostDime before (their prices are very good for managed service) which we would recommend.
  • I'm on dedicated, but if you're just starting out, then go the VPS route, they are very affordable and perform very well..

    So here's my deal... I've been in IM for some time now and making the jump to CPA. I have over 100 domains that I have currently on my host. I'm using Dreamhost. I've been wanting to switch for some time now because they suck. Some sites require more resources then others of course.

    For CPA marketing, why do you need a VPS or a SSD? Why can't you just use a shared server? What is the issue with that? It seems that if you're just driving traffic to a landning page, this is not very resource intensive and no MySql activity.

    Any thoughts would be very helpful.

    • You can, but I'd recommend a reseller account with a provider that uses actual enterprise quality servers - not some i5 series processor. Most people here tell you what they've "heard" someone else say.

      SSD - you'll only notice a difference mainly when using a SQL intensive or other database intensive site.

      Stop using "unlimited" shared/reseller hosting and you most likely wouldn't have that problem. Most of the time you'll be forced to upgrade because of "high resources" because there's simply no room for resource spikes since 9 times out of 10, the servers are so jam packed they can't handle it. Find a better host.

      I would however, recommend a reseller account so that you can have each domain on it's own account and run as it's own user.
