[CASE STUDY] POF Image Case Study

Before my reports for this case study, I would like to say some things that were done before starting this campaign.

Before starting this campaign, I have went over to research on different case studies regarding on POF.

Some sources are, Greedy's blog, POF ads blog, Luke's blog from Peerfly, MrGreen and so on.

This is my first time making a study on POF so I was quite excited and nervous. But you can't just stop when you haven't started so I just kicked in.

----About----

I've chose a Christian offer as the payout is pretty high and isn't too hard to convert.

This case study is mainly to test which images were the best for catching the users eyes.

In this study, I have used a own landing page which then directs to the offer page. Prosper202 as my tracking. And when every thing is set up and some questions were answered by Ben at POF. The campaign is sent for prosposal.

-------DAY 1-------

It's the 6th of August, the campaign has started at late evening. To my amazement, the impressions were stuck at 3. It was only 8 in the evening and so I don't think that it's a "time" problem.

I knew something was wrong. My bid was high at around $0.60 so it wouldn't be my bidding problem. It was that my targeting was too tight. I have targeted almost everything (country, education, gender, age, income, looking to marry, intent, smoke, looking for, ethnicity, religion, etc.)

Hence, I have deleted the some target, after a refresh the impressions went to 7, I knew that my targets were still too targeted so I deleted some more of the targets.

------Results------

The day has ended with only 119 impressions with 0 clicks. This impression isn't strange since the night has come and I don't think my targets are awake as this time of the day. Some tweaks were made for tomorrow's test.

---------------------

This is my first case study on POF so I'm pretty excited about tomorrow's results. Will keep everyone posted on this.

Have a nice day!

Yes, you need to get a lot more impressions.

Try raising your budget and tweaking with your targeting a bit.

    Christian can be competitive.

Alright guys. As of now, I've paused the campaign and put in new images for approval. The reason for my sudden change in picture is due to the fact that I think my borders aren't good enough. Even though it hasn't been tested enough, but my own instinct tells me so.

Sorry I meant budget, it was an early morning.

    How competitive?
It is a competitive dating niche, but it works fine, so don't give up.

    That competitive.

It's competitive and ctr's aren't as high as you might think...I hope you took an angle for your campaign, not a broad christian angle...

I took an angle of very targeted targets. But I'm minimizing it down since I'm getting a very low impression of less than 1000 per day.

Greedy, do you think your bid suggestion of $0.60 would work?

I've edited the description of the ad to match a particular angle. Targets will yet to be changed. Hope to get more impressions soon. Of course, this will have to wait for approval.

I don't think we'll get approved today so I guess I'll call it a day.

    Summary of DAY 2:

I changed the borders of the images and also the description of the ads to match the angle I was targeting. My target was changed to a newer targeted angle but some targets were removed as to broaden the whole thing.

    Results:

I got 203 impressions and 0 clicks for today. This is in expectation. Guess I won't be changing the targets and stuff again for 2 or more days to get a real test and result.

I guess I'll be revealing some of the photos I have used:

Image1: This is a selfie of a hot chick Brunette with big boobies.
Image2: An old man and a hot women ( couples )
    Image3: A young couple
    Image4: An old couple ( Cartoon )
    Image5: A gorgeous looking blonde.

    Any suggestion, guys?

In my (rather limited) experience with POF advertising, I've found that cartoon images generally don't perform very well. And images of couples only do well if you're targeting women.

That's just my experience though, maybe you'll have better luck with those kind of images than I did.

If you're targeting men, stick with images of hot/average looking chicks. I found tattoos work well, imply the naughty christian girl.

It will probably be a good idea to loosen your targeting otherwise it will take you a month to gather any data. You can't optimize a campaign without it.

If you have a christian angle going to a christian offer, split test direct linking. You don't nessecarily need a 'bridge' page if the ad and offer are congruent.

Don't bid on round numbers like 50 or 60. Try 63c etc instead.

And, take the above with a grain of salt and for ideas only. I haven't run anything on POF for a while but I hope it helps.

I have put in both hot chicks and normal couples to test. This is because I don't think my targets actually want hot chicks but most studies actually tell us the fact that men are chick lovers. That's why I'm testing which type are the best for my targets.

I guess so too so I'm tweaking a lot lately.

I think a page might be better since the offer page is a little too ... how'd ya say? too much? too exciting?

An experience is an experience, there isn't such a thing as unlimited experience, is there?

I've heeded your advice on cartoon images that doesn't work and took it down and changed it up with a hot chick. ( I was also thinking about taking this one down since the cartoon is only a thin black white image that isn't very attractive. )

But, I guess I'll leave the couple images there since I don't think my targets will hate it for now. ( Just a guess ) Since my targets are pretty religious Christians which have a marrying intent. I think they'll actually like that and think about how wonderful they're life would be with a couple and eventually click on it.

Pardon my grammar as I'm not a native speaker.

I just re-read the OP and saw this.

I would only target country, gender, age and religion with either intent OR looking to marry. ie. Chistian chicks seeking marriage or whatever. I would also break it into login count of 100 or so and not bother with much outside the US.

just another couple of cents worth

@Paulbaker , I'm curious on one thing that you stated. You said "intent OR looking to marry". Can't I target both? Why not?

      ------DAY 3-----------

My proposal was accepted and my ads are up and running. Hope to get more impressions for now.

My goal #1 for now would be to find a target range with high impressions.

        Sure you can target both.

I ran a similar campaign/campaigns last year and just found the volume too low if targeting both. It depends on your budget though. From memory, I targeted US women in their 30s & 40s that were some type of christian and we're looking to marry. It was profitable (great ROI) but not enough volume for me. I broke ages down into 5 year groups and there was a big difference in how they converted.

Personally, I like to start with broader targeting while I figure out creatives/landers/offers etc which you can't do if you're not getting any clicks.

I have put in both hot chicks and normal couples to test. This is because I don't think my targets actually want hot chicks but most studies actually tell us the fact that men are chick lovers. That's why I'm testing which type are the best for my targets.
Who doesn't like hot chicks?

Just because someone has marked themselves as a Christian on a dating site doesn't mean that they're planning to be a priest or anything. I wouldn't even assume that they go to church. Be careful with assumptions, trust the numbers instead.

I guess I'll take down of it then. I like Broader campaigns too. Guess I'll just start with Broad targeting would be my first decision then after that, targeting down to a narrow target.

I agree with what you say but everything has their own "BUT" so I guess what if? Currently testing on a few hot chicks and couples. Waiting for the results. The impressions now are quite low. Guess it's the time problem.

Alright guys, time for DAY 4's results.

We finally got higher impressions , 413 impressions! Even though it's still low, but at least we know it means that our targeting was too broad before. And also, remember that I only tweaked this during late evening.

Still no clicks for now though. So I'm still gonna be testing. No tweaking for a few days.

    DAY 5 Results

Day 5 ended with 537 impressions and 1 click!

    Finally got 1 click.

And also, unlike what others told me, the only click actually went to the couples images!

( even though we still lack on more testing, but this boosted my faith on the couple images. )

    Day 6 Started

I added one more campaign for another category of people.

I am currently thinking whether I should add one more image that I just found and test it.

Oh my god! I finally broke my impressions to 1000 !! So basically, I added a new campaign, targeting catholics.

Having one click to a picture with it having a CTR of 0.93%!!

    Cheers!

I'll keep on updating with you guys whenever I can. If there's any tips or opinions, please tell me.

Just so you know, Hostgator is not doing very well right now. Their support is terrible, their hosting has become super unstable, etc... And believe me... you're not the only one. There are THOUSANDS of people going through the same thing... look it up on Google and you'll see what I'm talking about...

My advise? Leave Hostgator and go to Arvixe. Great support, and great speed. And the price is good as well.

      Other good options: Siteground, Site5.

1035 impressions daily for a campaign is still too low...you need to either loosen up your targeting (while maintaining the desired basic demo) or raise your bid. I usually get more than 5k impressions on campaigns daily up to 25-50k impressions...

    DAY 9 RESULTS

Guys! Today! I officially tell you that I got 7303 impressions with 11 clicks! Not sure whether that CTR is high. It's strange why I still don't have impressions though. I guess it's because my loading speed is slow. Only 2 clicks are registered on my Peerfly's report. I think I'll stop tracking using Prosper202 for now and just start direct linking "raw".

The other reasons could be also due to my ad text and my way of linking.

First reason, my ad text does not consist of "Sign up now!"

Second reason, i use direct linking.

This is just my guess though. So for today, I'll rewrite my ad texts.

    Hope things go well.

Think about your text ads, the title and the description should be optimized to catch readers eyes, should contain numbers....

When you place the ad, do you use keywords on the keyword place or you use URL?

      Kind regards

From what I can see you've had less than 20 clicks to the offer. Try to avoid changing things too quickly and too often, you'll loose track of what works and what doesn't.

I'm using direct linking right now. I was thinking whether I should use this landing page. The offer page is a classical white wedding situation with a couple and a sign up form.

I got redirected to a webpage about world health... I'm outside of the US so that might be the reason.

In either case, your traffic is way to low, but your CTR is pretty good. I consider anything better than 0.1% CTR on a CPM campaign as "pretty good"... if you could get that up to a steady 0.2% that would be really great.

    But you need more impressions/traffic.

The offer link didn't work for me, I am in the US.

You landing page is alright design-wise you just need to improve the ad copy.

Make it more engaging, it is bland right now.
