noobie question- where to start?

hi guys, so as you can already tell, i am new to this and have not much of a clue what i'm doing.

I discovered this forum not too long ago, since then I've downloaded some of the free ebooks available here and tried to connect the dots about internet marketing and the different methods, i am interested most in CPA.

My problem however is, it seems like any information I do find is always incomplete or aimed at someone who is already doing this and looking for a new method, I have not been able to find the starting point!

So far I've figured out that I won't be able to get into a good CPA network without experience, so I should use ClickBank maybe. Along with this I should try maybe bingAds since google adwords is very strict, and as I don't know how to make good landing pages I should try 'direct linking'. I need some good way to track whats happening so I should use the free software Prosper202, apparently ClickBank isn't so trustworthy.

Is what I said right so far? Because I haven't been able to gather much more than that and I have been looking around for a few days. A few people on here even tried to sell me on their courses! But no free info, so it's tough

Thanks for any help you can give a noob guys, I'd love to hear from you~

  • I recommend POF (plenty of fish) for starting with. Do a google search for 'blog.ads.pof'. There is plenty of information there for you.

    You mentioned:

"I won't be able to get into a good CPA network without experience"

There are a few CPA networks that will accept newbies. I know this because I'm a newbie and got accepted. All you have to do to get accepted is be totally honest with them. Tell them that your a noob, give them iformation on how you intend on learning IM and how you plan on promoting their offers (make sure you know how you plan on promoting before applying. as above I recommend POF). Give 'lukepeerfly' a google. There is some great info on getting accepted there.

You also mentioned about people trying to sell you info. Don't waste your money buying anything just yet (as a lot are a waste of money). There is plenty of free information out there to get you started (Google the sites I mentioned). The one thing that is worth spending a few $ on is a book called 'cashvertising'.

Hope this info helps you in some way. Like I said I'm still a noob myself, so there will be people on here that can give you far better information etc. But them sites gave me a great start.

    Best of luck
    Craig
  • Best way to learn is to get your feet wet and start building your marketing campaign. Once you get started, you'll know what questions to ask - just come back here and ask it.

Here's a 100% free course on CPA marketing. No optin, no downloads, no bullshit, just pure value. affbeast.com/library/courses/

Follow this rough outline for things.

    1. Get on CPA Networks.

    2. Get Hosting and learn your way around a server.

    3. Find a good traffic source. Paid or Free.

    4. Figure out an offer to promote.

    5. Setup a landing page and tracking for the offer on your server.

    6. Start promoting things and split testing things.

    7. It is you job to master the traffic source you are try to learn. Don't jump around. Read all you can.

    • Thanks very much for this, your list puts it all in to much more manageable terms .

I applied for Neverblue on my first day of browsing around here, but I put I have no experience and no website so I can see I won't get a call, I'll try again on the others you mentioned.

Thanks to other posters too, all of this information is proving valuable to me already!

  • It sounds like you have a decent understanding and a good starting direction. Don't think you won't be able to get into a good network because you are new.

Also prosper202 (and other tracking solutions) are based off the networks tracking, it just gives you more data and tracking information.

    • It is your job to call them.

BTW Thanks for the kinds words.
  • Start with building a good emailing list and get your message straight and friendly, don't expect to sell something from the first email campaign. Although, you'll be lucky if you do. Take advantage of social media networks and integrate them in your campaign, be transparent and friendly and you're good to go.

    Best of luck!
  • I am looking into niches now to see what I should setup for my personal site. I also had a question about choosing products to advertise.

I see some really popular products in one of the 'big 3', 'truth about abs'. Apparently it is extremely well known, been running for a long time, and high conversion rate, but also high competition.

Is it a good choice to run as my first campaign because it is a proven product? Or will the competition be too much to make any returns.
  • Research ! Read ! Socialise ! Get some advice from established people.. Build a portfolio with interviews and maybe get a mentor? I had one when I first started and his intro as to research read and socialise

    • so I am in the same position as "qashkai" - an i am pretty much a noob. I have offers out with networks that are decent sizes tho and have contacts with a couple big dogs.

The problem I am encountering is it seems as if my payouts seem pretty high. I look at all these networks running our offers through a two tiered system so the big dogs seem to push this out to people and take a cut themself, perhaps too large?

I'm just wondering if we are a company that was doing well over 250 sales/leads per day lost some traction due to technology but now have that fixed and scalable whats the best approach to not only make this profitable for affiliate but also the merchant?!... In the beginning is two tiered a bad system? are there some good networks that will really work to make this profitable on both sides?

I know these are open questions, anything will help...particularly looking from some advice from Chrisba and Greedy, I have been following both of your post and you two seem like you have got this down on several different levels and understand the full 360 of affiliate marketing.

Thanks! Take an easy on the noob (ME)!
  • Yes, always be networking.
  • It's all about traffic you NEED people to get money also you have to find something people are interested in and advertise it
  • I recommend lead generation. It's good because you only care about collecting leads and not selling any products.
    Any questions, let me know!
